I had one guy ask how to do something with the pictures on his phone, I forget exactly what. As I was showing him, and going through them, I came across one of his girlfriend bent over in a thong. I guess that's only rated R. No XXX stuff for me yet.

Yes, but prepaid "credit" cards can be purchased at convenience stores and filled with money. It costs like $10 to set one up and you have to put a minimum of $20 or so on it to begin with.

Yeah, it's time for another one of these threads. An old guy came up and wanted to upgrade his AT&T phone and change rate plans, so I told him about how he could migrate. Things were going well, we settled on a phone and everything, and then he asked me about a car charger. I told him how much it is, and he said he wanted me to throw it in for free. I told him that I couldn't ...

I work in a company owned retail location somewhere in the depths of the New England market, and we do offer one year contracts. The phones are $50 more expensive than if you sign up for a two year commitment. As for national retail and authorized agents, they have some latitude in setting their own prices, so if they wanted to I'm sure they could decide to only sell two year commitments. That all said, the vast majority ...

If by bring vultures, you mean we know the competion and can effectivly contrast, compre and whatnot, yeah, we sales types who work in malls have to do that to survive. I'm in a COR kiosk in a mall. All five national carriers have a presence here. Are you saying that w shouldn't use other carrier's info to our advantage? Of course I won't take alleged future rate plan info I find on a web forum and ...

Well, it's dead in here today because of the storm. Some guy just came by and asked me where Best Buy is. It old him there's no Best Buy in the mall. He said, "What the hell was I thinking?" If only I knew that, along with how peoples' phones get liquid damage (Somehow they say it was never anywhere near any liquid) my job would be so much easier.

We had annoying people selling flying saucers next to us over the holidays. Thank god they're gone now. If it's someone who's buying a phone from me, I don't really mind the garbage requests, but I'll point them to the mall trash cans, since I only have a small one and it all ends up in the mall ones anyway. Another one of my favorites is, "Do you know what time it is?" My response is, "Yes, and you ...

Food court, bathrooms, CVS (there isn't one in this mall), Radio Shack, Filene's... The list goes on and on. Sometimes I joke about people thinking information is spelled C-I-N-G-U-L-A-R. Where I draw the line though, is when someone asks me if or where a competitor is in the mall. I generally ask them if they walk into McDonald's and ask where the nearest Burger King is when they do. Oh, and another good one from the other day: Them: ...

Got nothing on me! Last month I upgraded not one, but two customers who came in with analog phones! We need a new thread. Who, in the past year, has upgraded the oldest phone? If anyone's done a bag phone, I'll gladly stand aside and let them bask in the glory of upgrading an older phone than I did.

Hey, Myth. Haven't seen you around much lately. Anyway, I have to agree with your post and just want to add that that's the advantage of dealing with a company owned store over a national retail location. It's much easier to resolve issues like this and most people in company owned stores are happy to help out a customer with a problem, whereas if you buy from a national retailer they'll just send you to a ...

Will existing VZW customers have to manually do this update for them to take advantage of this admittedly good change? If so, I'd expect you guys to get a lot of unhappy customers who expected a change and didn't know they had to dial something from their phone to make it work. I guess the real reason I'm asking is to find out if I should expect an influx of VZW customers wanting to port their numbers. ;)

Good news! Rollover is included at no extra charge on GSM Nation plans $39.99 and up. You don't have to pay anything extra for it. It's part of the rate plan.

Well, it really depends on who you are and what your usage is. I like having the option of giving a customer who needs it a ton of anytime minutes with no night and weekend if that's what will work best for them. If they need night and weekend without as many anytime minutes, I can do that too. Even if someone comes in asking about it and they go with something that has included night and weekend ...

Wow. Posting agreements with folks in the Sprint forum. You've sunk to a new low. Just kidding, because I agree too. Sprintemployee isn't the type that'll be getting referrals or have happy customers. I went way out of my way for a customer once for a double upgrade. I didn't get much in commission for it, but he liked me so much he referred a friend of his to me for two new lines. This morning ...

So this morning I had three people waiting for me while I was doing an activation. After I was done, the first two wanted prepaid cards. The third said, "I have a problem," as he reached into his pocket. Never a good sign. He explained how he needs his phone for work to get service calls. That's two bad signs. He's not going to take anything but exactly what he wants for an answer. Then he ...

And I thought it was bad when I answer the phone "Cingular Wireless..." and someone asks me if I sell T-Mobile too. "I work for Cingular, and they kind of fire me if I sell T-Mobile." Or worse is me sitting in my kiosk with all sorts of Cingular signs, wearing a Cingular shirt and they'll ask me the same thing. Maybe not T-Mobile, but any other carrier as well. But that really takes the cake. ...

Really reminds me of my PC tech support call center days. Internal for an HMO and everyone lied. "Did you reboot?" "Yes." "Well try it again one more time while you're on the phone with me." "It worked this time!" *mute* "That's because you lied and didn't reboot before you called." It was insane. I had a couple of customers with phones that went in the lake. One of them was irretrievable. It went overboard and he didn't have insurance so it was full price for him, then decided insurance wouldn't be a bad deal. Of course a month or so later he showed up on my chargeback list, cancel non-pay. The other one was a prepaid customer and the phone wouldn't work after its immersion. I really am surprised ...

Marketing is trying to get a bunch of people to believe something is true. Just because a whole lot of people believe it's true doesn't mean it is, though. Government officials routinely get people believe they are making "painful" budget cuts, when in fact what they're doing is cutting the amount of the budget increase in the proposed budget. The budget is still bigger than the previous year's despite the "cuts." All a customer satisfaction survey of ...

I had a fun one the other week where the customer didn't send in her rebate form and it was past the postmark by date. She wanted me to give her a new form first, and I told her that wouldn't work since the date on the receipt wouldn't match up with the period on the new rebate form. This is so wrong I decided to log in from home to correct it. Any Cingular customer can walk into any store in their market and upgrade their phones. Data from old, obsolete or other billing systems that for some reason someone decides to abandon can be exported from the old one and imported into a new one. Granted it takes the work of a bunch of IT people to do, but it happens. Both ...

The initial large sum of money that was invested to creates Sprint PCS came from the Sprint LD division, unless I'm grossly mistaken. I'm not saying that's where the money comes from now, but it had to start somewhere. And I said the money has to come from one of two places, either the LD division or profits from the wireless division.

Welcome to the world of business. There's nothing bad about a company buying another one. There's only one way to the top, and that's to invest in resources, whether by building them yourself or by buying them from someone else. If at some point in the future, Sprint actually became number one by continuing its strategy of no mergers or acquisitions (not something that I think is likely), it still would be buying its way to ...

And how does Sprint get its assets to build towers? By exploiting the workers! By hanging on to outdated imperialistic dogma that perpetuates the differences in our society! Oops, sorry. This isn't Monty Python. Sprint does, however, get its assets to build its towers by charging customers for its services and making a profit. Either that or getting subsidies from the long distance division of Sprint and therefore charging people, Sprint LD customers, a little ...

Re: From The Ground Up?

By your logic it's not the difference between renting and buying a house. It's the difference between building your own house and buying one that's already been built and perhaps even previously owned. Renting would be like what happens with a company like Virgin Mobile or TracFone. They rent usage of networks that someone else owns.

From The Ground Up?
Aug 22, 2004, 1:11 PM
in the Sprint forum

I just have to ask, because this has been perplexing me for some time. What benefit is there to a customer to having a network that's "built from the ground up" as opposed to one created over time from building up towers as well as the additions of others through mergers and acquisitions? I understand that Sprint can't claim the largest network without qualifying it with "all digital," "all PCS," and "built from the ground up." ...
