Some Old School News: TDMA Nation is back for a limited time

A friend in the know at Cingular has informed me that the company has brought back availability of the non-rollover TDMA Nation plans that were discontinued about two years ago.

As I understand it, they are "probably" not available for new sign-ups, just if you already have the plan and want to upgrade. As I was told, you do not have 7 PM off-peak options, MTM minutes, family plan options, or roll-over minutes. What you DO get is a coverage map that is almost the equal of the discontinued GAIT plans....virtually no roaming. Prices are along the lines of 350 anytime/3500 off-peak for $40; 500 anytime/3500 off-peak $50, etc.

From what I was told, they aren't being advertised on the web page or at any stores. You'll have to call...

I've actually just done an upgrade a few days ago for a customer who had been with us since we were Bell South Mobility. He had an OLD digital 20 plan and a phone so old it was damn near older than me!!! I upgraded him to a new SE T237 and he was able to keep that plan that was OLD AS DIRT!!!

There really are people out there who don't want a new plan when they upgrade, even if the plan's as old as I am.

Got nothing on me! Last month I upgraded not one, but two customers who came in with analog phones! We need a new thread. Who, in the past year, has upgraded the oldest phone? If anyone's done a bag phone, I'll gladly stand aside and let them bask in the glory of upgrading an older phone than I did. 😉

I have an analog phone from 1987 built into my car and a family member has one from 1989 and we don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. We just like the car phones. In Europe they have gsm car phones. If I can find one of those, someone's gonna get a big upgrade.

He emphasized to me that the person that informed him of it said it would not be made public. I guess only those with psychic powers or friends in the know need apply 😉

I can't begin to say why they did it, but he verified that he was able to up his anytime plan minutes from 350-500 here a few days ago. If it has any shelf life, it's supposed to be very short, maybe only late Sept-mid Oct, perhaps.

I guess someone won the paper-scissors-rock executive decision-making game in HQ and got to bring them back??!!

If I get forwarded any more info I'll pass it along.
