Re: Sprint
Didn't Verizon announce the Omnia 2 with a few months ago, which has a 3.7in AMOLED screen.
Last I heard it was a 3rd quarter release device. If Sprint also releases the Omnia 2 it would interesting to see the differences or which different devices Sprint releases.
I hope after the Touch Pro fiasco that Verizon backed themselves into they leave the Onmia 2 alone. :)
Re: Why The FCC Wants To Smash Open The iPhone
Interesting article, I'm with another carrier anyway but I'd rather be able to use Skype (which is on my wired home computer) with my smartphone to talk to relatives overseas even if I'm out of the house.
Re: Best Day
I second what Jayshmay said, I'm trying to decide between the Touch Pro 2 (Verizon's if they'll ever release it) and the Omnia 2.
Hmmm- seems like AT&T is trying to change the rules to compete

Copy and paste if the link doesn't work.
Seems like AT&T can't compete in terms of the reliability standards so they want to change it to suit them.
Wasn't there a report out a few months ago that said Verizon was more dependable in the eastern and midwest regions and Sprint was better in the west? I thought it also mentionsed AT&T was running third....
Re: Great!
I always read up on new devices through Phone Scoop etc before I go into the stores anyway. I like to test the devices out to see how they feel quality-wise, responsiveness, call clarity, ease of use.
Thanks for information regarding Bluetooth 3.0 - time go read up on it to see if I should hold out also.
Re: Great!
I think that's a good idea (even though I'm with another carrier). There are two AT&T locations within my neighborhood and everytime I go in to check out the smartphones they don't work. I'm always told to go to a "corporate" store instead to see how they function.
Sorry but I'm not driving another 15 miles out of my way in Northern Va traffic to check out a working device when Sprint and Verizon stores are much closer ...
Re: Just in time to move in with the Omnia 2?
I'm happy there is enough competition in the market to force Verizon to unlock the gps capabilites.
Just think it's pretty stupid to take this long and not unlock the older phones.
Re: What about the other GPS enabled phones
I feel your pain, I'm waiting for the 6800's to be unlocked. I e-mailed them a long time ago, got a call yesterday (went to voicemail), called back and wasn't able to find out anything.
I'm guessing that older phones won't be supported. The reasoning is that instead of consumers keeping their older phones with "non-supported gps capabilities" they would have to buy newer equipment thus extending their contracts.
Re: Well how bout that?!!!!!?
I like the fact that it has a scratch-resistant screen.
Pretty cool stuff
Re: Copy much?
They must really be hurting financially to release the same device on the same day as another carrier. I wonder if they are afraid of losing customers.
If the phone has bugs which customer service department would you rather call?
Re: Sprint?
No, that's Verizon with the HTC devices-
Re: More sophisticated than the Iphone...
Actually that makes a lot of sense. A lot of places (Governmnt especially) will not let you bring a phone in that has a camera if sensitive information around.
Since Blackberries and to some degree WinMo phones are preferred in a business environment it makes sense to make two versions.
Re: About time!!
I'm with Verizon now and the only reason I'm still with them is due to the customer service and network. The problem is that I can't find a comparable smartphone in Verizon's poor bottom of the barrel offerings.
I hope this passes as it will force Verizon to open up the network (such as being able to buy a Sprint Touch Pro and put it on Verizon's network).
Re: Still the same lame VZW UI
One of the reasons I won't buy another dumbphone from Verizon and will stick to the smartphones.

I am so sick of people saying they still disable gps !! They don't on smart phones!! Every carrier locks down there dumbphones to a certain extent! Stop bashing verizon!! You say the only thing they going is quality/signal! But to me that is way more important than some peace of crap product from apple!
Are you serious???? I have a Verizon XV-6800 (HTC Mogul) which is a smart phone and the only way the GPS works ...
Re: Only good if Verizon doesn't cripple it
Verizon figures why should you get the milk for free (Windows Live Search, Google Maps and 3rd party programs that you can load onto your device). They would rather have you buy the whole cow (VZ Navigator at 9.95 per month in this economy).
The other thing is that I wonder if people who buy the dumb phones would complain if the gps functions were unlocked since they aren't able to load software onto thier devices and are forced to ...
Re: Only good if Verizon doesn't cripple it
Hate to burst bubbles here but I have to agree that Verizon does change a lot of devices from the factory specs. I've been with Verizon for 9 years and the last "regular" phone I had was the Motorola E815 because it didn't run the same stupid UI that all the other phones had. I hated the fact on that UI the first thing you saw was all the Get It Now junk. When it was time ...
Re: This wil be interesting...
I was reading somewhere that a few people were having problems with the build quality of the Iphone (the white one's I think). There was picture of cracks developing along the corners of the casings.
Re: Not every phone has to be...
This would probably be good for parents who want to get the kids a good cheap starter phone with a few options, just enough to keep them interested.
Re: Baby Steps...
Hmmm - has he made sure they have actually paid their taxes?
Seriously - who cares?
I'm sure it will be full of Verizon's crappy nickel and dime software and non-customizable options which is why I won't buy another Verizon phone. I switched to a smartphone and couldn't be happier (esp with the options and software available).
What's with all these cheesy teenager phones being released these days anyway?
Re: 8100 went back for b/c of problems, got 815 ,now it goes back
I had 4 LG's go back (the last was an 8100- that had problems) - stupid phone almost got pitched out of a car window at 60 mph due to the junk software on it. Verizon let me switch to the 815 and I didn't have any problems in the 10 months that I owned it.
I switched over to the XV-6700 pda about a month ago since I couldn't find a Verizon phone that doesn't have that garbage Get-It-Now-No-You-Can't-Do-That-Unless-You-Pa y-For-It-Or-Hack-Your-Phone-Same-As-Everyone- Else ...
Re: Bluetooth Stereo Headet
Will the wireless stereo headsets work with Verizon phones or not since the bluetooth profiles are limited on the phones?
Re: So go for the e815 or wait on the Razr?
It really depends on what you want to do with the phone. If you want to watch video's, play mp3's, add your own ringtones and have great reception, then I would stick with the 815. If you're looking for a more basic phone with a thinner profile then the RAZR might be a better choice. I'm not sure what the sound on the RAZR is like though.
I have the 815 now and considered getting a RAZR ...
Re: e815 Horizontal Pouch – Tight fit & Close to the Belt
Thanks for the information- I may pick one up as it sounds exactly what I'm looking for.
Re: thank you!
yep, it will be- I was in a Verizon store on Thursday to see the new phones (LG 9800 and new Samsungs) and thought it was absolutely deplorable when you pick up a good looking phone and the user interface is the same as the one phone sitting next to it. It's like buying Rolls-Royce and having a chevy motor under the hood.
Re: E815 transflash video
Howard Forums has the instructions on thier site.
Re: 8100 Reject
I agree, I had the 8100 before and nearly threw the phone out the car window because it wouldn't recognize voice commands very well. The 815 is great as I don't even have to raise my voice for it to work correctly.
Re: Anyone heard release date for Razor(CDMA)???
I think the RAZR that Verizon is getting is supposedly better feature-wise than the T-Mobile and Cingular versions, however, I have also heard rumors that Verizon has priced this phone way too high (600.00 full-retail according tht posts on Howard Forums).
If it is 600.00 then they can forget me getting it-- I'll stick with my reliable 815.
Re: Dropped e815 in water! Darnit lol
I thought I saw a post (either or somewhere else) that Verizon wasn't going to allow insurance to be added to a phone outside of a certain time period. It was to keep people from breaking thier phones and getting replacements (or something to that effect).
I have not a clue if this is true but just re-posting something that I read, for all I know is that Verizon may allow you to do so.
Re: Camera issue
I'm guessing that might be a built in a feature so you don't accidently start the camera while reaching for it on your belt or in your pants pocket.

Re: The e815 and slow EVDO speeds...
I've actually found it's faster for me to check my email with the phone than it is for me to go start my computer, log in to the internet and open up yahoo.
Typing a response to an email is another story though.
Re: The e815 and slow EVDO speeds...
When my phone is in 1X it took me about 3 minutes to open up the web brower, goto favorites, open up yahoo and check my e-mail and close out.
With EV, I can do the same thing in about 30-45 seconds in the D.C. area. It certainly helps when you are using your minutes to check e-mail.
Re: The e815 and slow EVDO speeds...
I noticed a huge difference between the 8100 that got replaced and the E815. The 8100 was much faster at downloads but it would also wind up buffering the video clips a lot more (another reason it got switched out).
Re: Speaker Phone Function
If you look close at the front of the phone when it's closed, you will notice that it's not fully shut but that the top piece is sitting on top of the stops attached to the bottom piece.
The microphone is near the right side stop.

I think he's right-- could you imagine everybody on this board changing phones every 15 days?
Re: Clarity Or Technology....What's More Important?
good review--clarity and reception were among the main reasons I refused a replacement 8100 and switched to the 815.
I think I'll pass on the new phones and get something later.
Re: HELP!!!
I traded in 3 LG 8000's and 1 LG 8100 because they all have had issues from poor internet connectivity to volume issues. The 8100 I had had static on the bluetooth connection, poor voice command recognition (I literally had to yell it before it knew what I wanted) and at times I couldn't hear the other caller. It did feel like a solid little brick though in terms of build quality.
I got the 815 and am ...
