It's long been known that once AT&Ts exclusive is up, that Apple would be shopping around to other interested carriers.

I would...

But hey, if enough people keep reporting it as a rumor, it eventually becomes reportable fact. πŸ˜‰
The New York Times doesn't run rumors. They must have confirmed this info with at least one other source, or they have at least verified that their primary source is someone in a position to know.

Iphone on Verizon vs Palm Pre on Sprint???? Who wins?

I say the Palm Pre.. 😁

This wil be interesting...

Especially if the next iPhone finally supports the following features:

Picture/Video Messaging (!!!)
Stereo Bluetooth (It's the Apex of music player technology it should have this!)
Flash Player Lite (less important but really it should by now)

I sure hope Asurion Insurance will cover the Verizon iPhone. That's been a big gripe about AT&T's most expensive phones, that they aren't insurable.
All of AT&T's phones are insurable now. With the exception of the iphone of course.
3.0 update this summer will add over 100 features.

The only feature I care about it the ability to multi-task, which the iphone doesn't do well at all right now.
It is not Asurions decision on what phones are covered or not. The IPhone is insurred by..... drum roll please...... APPLE! Gee I wonder what is comperable to the IPhone if they are out of stock?

It may eventually find its way into every carriers hands. Once that agr...
I though you could? (don't really konw) thought that was called jail braking or some fanglady I$hit. Though I'd love to see windows mobile under verizon iphone pressure BWAAAA. I'm a winodows mobile fan but would not mind reliable service to the ip...
just go to craigslist and buy an unlocked iphone for $350 and use it, it works with $6 tzones fine.

Why is IPhone not covered under insurance?

I think that real dumb! What is the reason for this it would be great if it was covered. Any comments appreitiated 😁
att and apple would loose money if they did cover it..its like if own a bently u cant just go into i.e. Allstate and ask for car insurance.. its just to expensive to make a claim on it..however u can cover it with renters insurance or home insurance.....

Oh no.

This sucks for at&t in a huge way. I see tons of people all the time come in to my store having verizon... nothing is wrong with their service, but they wan't the iphone. NOW, that they will have the iphone, who will ever need or want to switch? at&t better think of something, fast. 🀣
I agree there's going to be alot of people switching back.

Hmm...what about Microsoft's 'Pink'?

Microsoft is in talks with VZW to launch their iphone killer so this should be interesting.
Oh yeah, because Microsoft has 🀣

... launched... 🀣

such... 🀣 quality products.... 🀣

Major loss for RIM, LG, and Samsung

Basically, any of the iPhone knockoffs Verizon has been schlepping to stem the tide of Verizon defectors is going to see a huge decrease in sales once VZW customers have access to the real thing.
I sure hope they sell insurance on the Verizon iphone. I have a lot of at&t customers really unhappy when their iphone hits the floor or is stolen and at&t won't cover it. I like the iphone but would never own one unless they made a replaceable batter...
not a major loss at all if you think about it. Some businesses still wont support the iPhone leaving those people going for Blackberry while people not wanting to be forced to buy a data plan will just get an LG or Samsung. I sell phones and I sell mo...

Only good if Verizon doesn't cripple it

I have a iPhone with AT&T and I love it, the only way I would switch back to Verizon is if they don't screw it up
Somewhat doubt that, as the latest SmartPhones on Verizon have not been crippled like before.

Apr 28, 2009, 9:12 AM

at&t better be thinking of a pretty big plan to match that up.
Why do you think they want to extend their exclusivity agreement for at least another year...

Apr 28, 2009, 10:11 AM

Price War!

it would be pretty sweet to see these 2 behemoths fight over the cheapest iPhone.

In the end the Consumer wins!
Not if it creates a sub-standard product.
Verizon's network is better in many places they would not have to get into a price war.

Apr 28, 2009, 2:46 PM

Sell it to all carriers

I think they should sell the iphone to all cell phone carriers and get rid of the exclusive agreements. I have quite a few customers who really want an iphone but cant get one because at&t doesn't service their area..

Actually.... this appears to be only partly true at the moment:

According to Businessweek:

"One device is a smaller, less expensive calling device described by a person who has seen it as an ΓƒΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ…β€œiPhone lite.ΓƒΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ‚Β The other is a media pad that would let users listen to music, view photos, and watch high-definition videos, the person says."
