I’m a recent, and albeit reluctant, owner of the new Samsung SCH-A950, and I must preface this review by stating that so far, I’ve got some very mixed feelings about it. I previously owned the LG VX-8100, and went through three different handsets that all suffered from the dreaded “volume fluctuation bug” that’s been widely reported. After recently losing volume on a very important call, (new, “blue dot/factory fresh” LG-VX 8100 with the new software pre-loaded) I decided that I’d had enough and sprung for the A950.

So, let’s get to the positives first shall we?

VERY VERY good post. This post had straight facts coming straight from someone that has the 950.

good review--clarity and reception were among the main reasons I refused a replacement 8100 and switched to the 815.

I think I'll pass on the new phones and get something later.

Battery life has been above average. Where I could go a full day with the LG VX-8100 still fully charged, the A950 is almost fully charged, i.e. one bar gone. That's still not too bad considering I've used it a lot since I picked up up.

To tell you the truth, I'm strongly considering the LG VX-9800. I'm just not totally happy with the A950 for the technological reasons I mentioned before. The VX-9800, while admittedly a lot bigger, has all the bells and whistles, PLUS, the volume on the earpiece is exceptionally loud! I wish the VX-8100 was like this, but it's not, at least with the current software.
