Re: Transfering older PALM OS data

in the Palm Treo 650 (GSM) forum

The 750 hardware may be better than the 650 but the real problem is windows mobile. In a word it sucks! I tried the 700w before getting my 650 and I hated it. It clunky and un-responsive, and take too many clicks to do anything. If you like the palm os go for the 650 or if you switch to verizon get the 700p.

Data should be no problem at all, apps might be a problem. Before you start, go to where you have palm software installed and make a backup copy of profile folder just in case. Then install the latest version of palm desktop. Now when you sync the treo as long as you use the same username, it should sync your existing data to the device. Some older palm apps will run on OS 5 some ...

Are you familiar with palm pdas? If so it is exactly the same. The palm os is definitely the best handheld interface out there. It may not have all the potential features of windows mobile, but it has better memory handling and is designed from the ground up for handheld use, with a minimum of taps to get anything done. Call quality has been very good for me although the reception is not as strong ...

I tried out the 700w, before I got my 650. The windows os is just not suited to handheld devices. It is slow, clunky, and has lousy memory management. It takes to many clicks to get anywhere in the the interface. The palm interface is not perfect but it is designed for handheld devices. Now that the 700p is out, you can get all the extra hardware advantages of the 700 platform with the ...

Re: Already Purchased Replacement- WHAT DO I DO?
Jun 23, 2006, 8:44 AM

This whole subject has been discussed quite extensively both in this forum and over on howardforums.com. Many people have been in touch with the attorneys on the case and verizon. Unless you opted to cancel your service you get no money back unless you buy a new phone, and the refund is the lesser of the amount spent on a new phone and accessories or the v710. This subject has been beaten to death already. ...

You must buy a replacement to get any refund. You will only get a refund for any amount you spend on a replacement up to the the amount you paid for the v710. If you spend $100 on a replacement you get $100 back even if you spent $300 on the v710. If you don't buy a replacement phone from the website you get nothing back even if you send in the v710. What you ...

There is no itunes for the palm platform. However you can get pockettunes from pocket-tunes.com for $35. Alternatively you can use tcpmp (the core pocket media player) which is an open source player that supports most of the major audio codecs plus play video like divx, xvid, mp4 and others. This one is free and works really well. You can get it at http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about

Not at all. In their infinite wisdom, vzw created a common user interface for all their phones. The way they implement this is with a software overlay. This software overlay includes a calendar that is in addition to the built-in calendar. Unfortunately on the moto phones(v3c razr and v325) that have this ui, there is a conflict between the 2 calendars and it completely screws up the calendar, and syncing just doesn't work. There ...

Do you have any history with palm of windows mobile devices? Personally I have been using palm devices since 1999 and when the treo 700 came out I went to the store to check it out. After about 2 minutes, I decided I hated the windows mobile interface. The palm interface is a much better hand-held interface IMHO. Also do you have any interest in EVDO? No the ipod is definitely the easiest way to go for a music player. Set up itunes and plug in the ipod and it can sync automatically. I have an ipod and a treo 650. You can do it on the treo but the ipod is absolutely the easiest interface for navigating a collection of music. an older person especially may have difficulty with the treo keyboard. Itunes is produced by apple and is free. It can play mp3, aac, wav, aiff and apple lossless aac formats. You set the import setting to 96 kbps mp3. Then you right click on a song in your itunes library and go to get info. On the options tab of the get info dialog box, you can set the start and stop time for a 30 second interval of tha song. Click OK and ...

Do you want mp3 ringtones? If so you can use itunes or audacity, to take an existing mp3 file and trim it to make a tone. Cut out a 30 second clip from the song and save it to 96 kpbs or less bit rate. Audacity is a an open source audio editing program and itunes is of course free as well.

It's actually not hard. You need a usb cable. MPT is the motorola phone tools software. PST is the motorola phone programming tool. A seem is part of the software programmed into the flash memory of the phone. It is re-writable, and used to enable/disable functions/features of the phone. Verizon sets a bit in one of the seem files to disable transferring files over usb. They do this to force customers to ...

That was the ticket. Of course it should have intuitively obvious to look under the get it now menu. Now maybe someone should tell the reps at verizon where to find it. Looking around elsewhere, it appears the developers of motorola phone tools had to disable the syncing of the calendar on the v325 because of an issue with the verizon ui. Apparently the verizon ui actually sits on top of the motorola so there ...

So I spent about 45 minutes on the phone being bounced around with vzw reps the other day and nobody could figure this one out. How much memory does the v325 have, and how do you figure out how much is available? There is nothing anywhere in the "wonderful" new vzw common interface that will reveal that seemingly trivial piece of information. Also has anyone figured out a way to get pics off the phone or ...

Re: megapixels/photo quality increase with memory card???
Jan 26, 2006, 4:16 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

Adding a memory card will have absolutely no impact on the quality of images from the v710. The only thing it will do is allow you to store more crappy images. the image quality is governed by the sensor, the processing algorithm, and most importantly the lens. Pretty much all phones have terrible plastic lenses and hence produce bad images. The memory card is irrelevant. You can change resolution by pressing the meny button ...

It has a smaller screen but same resolution as the 815 (1.9"vs 2.2"). It is apparently tri-mode. It does not have a micro-sd slot like 815. It does have a mini-usb connector. It also has a monochrome display ...

The MiniSD card is about twice the size of transflash. Sandisk developed the transflash card format. The SD standards group recently approved the transflash design as the new microSD format. Presumably other phone and memory manufacturers will eventually adopt the MicroSD card. At any rate the V710 uses transflash/MicroSD memory cards.

Re: MP3 Users: Where are you getting them?
Apr 19, 2005, 11:05 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

For itunes songs you can use jhymn from http://www.hymn-project.org/jhymndoc/ . Check out the instructions about the BIG SECRET. This will remove all the id info. If you do this future updates to itunes won't be able to re encrypt your songs. Once you have removed the drm just right click on the track in your itunes library and select convert to mp3. Now you can put the straight mp3 on the phone.

In order to use the V710 bluetooth with MPT you need MPT 3 and the updated firmware on the phone. The original firmware will not allow you to sync the phone via bluetooth. If you have a usb cable to connect the phone to the computer, you can flash the phone yourself. A good set of instructions and links to all the required software files can be found here http://motov710.blogspot.com/#110255153312169 866 If you don't want to do it ...

The BT dial-up networking profile has been enabled since day. I got my verizon V710 last august when they came out and I was online with my palm tungsten within a couple of hours. The file transfer protocol was/is disabled but this is not needed to use the phone as a wireless modem. Another item that works now is dialling directly from the palm phone book. Actually, you don't need the update to get online. Bluetooth dial-up networking was always supported on the v710. Mainly the update allows you to sync phonebook, calender and media files via bluetooth with a pc. It also changes the image processing algorithm to improve picture quality a bit. If you are not concerned with BT syncing leave your phone as is and just set up the axim to communicate.

You need to update your phone with the new firmware. The new updated firmware allows the phone to ring while paired with the headset. It also fixes various other problems. You need a usb cable to do it. If you look around in this forum or on this thread http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&thr eadid=513683 you can find all the files and instructions. I have flashed my phone and 2 others with no problems.

You can transfer pictures if you have reflashed your phone with the new SuperDave firmware. You have to manually configure mobile phone tools manually to use the V710m rather than the V710. The m is the OEM motorola version rather than the verizon. If you are configured for the verizon version it will not transfer an media files. the V710m enables the media gallery which can be synced via bluetooth

Rar files are archives like zip files. Download a copy of winrar from http://www.rarlab.com/ and then extract the setup files for PST. Once you extract the archive run the pst setup and then copy the uni_patch to the pst progam files directory. Run the uni_patch from the pst directory and patch all the files. Once you have done this run the MultiFlashFlex.exe file and flash away.

Check out the post above from spiff. It has links to the software and the threads on howardforums. Basically you install the PST software and the key patch. Then you plug in the phone and flash. I have done my phone and 2 others today all successfully.
