another idiot customer story

An award should go to the United Airlines gate agent in Denver for being smart and funny, and making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo. A crowded United flight was canceled. A single agent was rebooking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS." The agent replied, "I'm sorry sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first, and I'm sure we'll be able to work something out." The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "Do you have any idea who I am?" Without hesitating, the gate agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone. "May I have your attention please?" she began, her voice bellowing throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at the gate WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to the gate." With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore, F*** you!" Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to stand in line for that too

5 minutes to close. Just had someone walk in who speaks no english, and I speak no spanish, other than 'Yo tengo trente penes,' which isn't too helpful in most situations. Thankfully, they heard the announcement that the mall is closing and they left. Most of the time people walk in 5 minutes after close if I forget to pull down the gate or something. I'm in the middle of counting money and they take about 20 minutes of my time asking all kinds of questions and then tell met hey are just looking. lol. I hate gate-crashers. Actually had a guy lift up the gate once and walk under it. I asked in a really angry voice, "Can I help you with something?!" And he was like, "Just looking." I told him we were closed and he asked why the lights were still on. I told him they were on so I could see to close the store. He appologized and said he didn't realize we were closing... even though he had to lift up the gate and walk underneath it to come into my store...

On the outskirts of town, there was a big old pecan tree by the cemetery fence. One day two kids filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing them. One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said the boy. Several were dropped and rolled down toward the gate. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was. "Oh my," he shuddered, "it's Satan and the Lord dividing the souls at the cemetery." He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. "Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard. Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!" The man said, "Beat it, kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk?" When the boy insisted, the man hobbled to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' the truth, let's see if we can see the devil himself." Shaking with fear, they peered through the gate, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the gate tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of Satan. At last they heard, "One for you, one for me. And one last one for you. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the gate, and we'll be done." They say, the old guy made it back to town before the boy!

Sometimes if I have to go number 2 real bad (in my inline store) I just pull down the gates and lock them and go in the back (we have a bathroom. I don't go on the floor... unless I am really upset...). Once I didn't latch it all the way and a customer pulled up the gate and walked in, completely ignoring the "Be back in 5 minutes" sign and the fact that the gate was shut. They started walking around the store shouting "hello?!" and I was like that the... They just walked into the back and started knocking on the bathroom door. My first thought was "$hit! My cash drawer!" So I hurried up and scrambled out. They didn't mess with the cash drawer, or anything else, they just wanted a phone, but I was like WHAT THE HELL! Why would you just pull up the gate and walk underneath it?! So I can actually say I've been caught by a customer with my pants down.

Baldur's Gate for the V710

Who liked Baldur's Gate for the PC? If you're a fan like myself, you might be curious about Sorrent's upcoming mobile version of the game. I contacted Verizon about the availability of the game but they said it was completely up to Sorrent to make a version compatible with the V710. So...I emailed Sorrent with a request. I would encourage other fans of the game to do the same: http://sorrent.com/company/contact.jsp Thanks!

Or when you work in a store and the gate is down and locked while you're counting out the register and someone rattles the gate and screams "Are you closed!?". Good stuff.

I've had people that literally see me pulling the gate down and run and dive and roll under it like something out of Indiana Jones. They stand up and say, "Good, I made it!" I look at them and say "Congratulations. We're closed, so you have to leave". They always look so disappointed, as if somehow the fact that they dove under the gate somehow makes it OK for them to be there...

It was getting a little crowded in Heaven, so God decided to change the admittance policy. The new law was that in order to get into Heaven, you had to have a really bad day on the day that you died. The policy would go into effect at noon the next day. So, the next day at 12:01 the first person came to the gates of Heaven. The Angel at the gate, remembering the new policy, promptly asked the man, "Before I let you in, I need you to tell me how your day was going when you died." "No problem," the man said. "I came home to my 25th-floor apartment on my lunch hour and caught my wife having an affair. But her lover was nowhere in sight. I immediately began searching for him. My wife was half naked and yelling at me as I searched the entire apartment. Just as I was about to give up, I happened to glance out onto the balcony and noticed that there was a man hanging off the edge by his fingertips! The nerve of that guy! 'Well, I ran out onto the balcony and stomped on his fingers until he fell to the ground. But wouldn't you know it, he landed in some trees and bushes that broke his fall and he didn't die. This ticked me off even more. 'In a rage now, I went back inside to get the first heavy thing I could get my hands on to throw at him. Oddly enough, the first thing I thought of was the refrigerator. I unplugged it, pushed it out onto the balcony, and tipped it over the side. It plummeted 25 stories and crushed him! The excitement of the moment was so great that I had a heart attack and died almost instantly." The Angel sat back and thought a moment. Technically, the guy did have a bad day. It was a crime of passion. So, the Angel announced, "OK, sir. Welcome to the Kingdom of Heaven," and let him in. A few seconds later, the next guy came up. To the Angel's surprise, it was Donald Trump. "Mr. Trump, before I can let you in, I need to hear about what your day was like when you died." Trump said, "No problem. But you're not going to believe this. I was on the balcony of my 26th floor apartment doing my daily exercises. I had been under a lot of pressure so I was really pushing hard to relieve my stress. I guess I got a little carried away, slipped, and accidentally fell over the side! Luckily, I was able to catch myself by the fingertips on the balcony below mine. But all of a sudden this crazy man comes running out of his apartment, starts cussing, and stomps on my fingers. Well, of course I fell. I hit some trees and bushes at the bottom, which broke my fall, so I didn't die right away. As I'm laying there face up on the ground, unable to move and in excruciating pain, I see this guy push his refrigerator, of all things, off the balcony. It falls the 25 floors and lands on top of me, killing me instantly. The Angel is quietly laughing to himself as Trump finishes his story. "I could get used to this new policy," he thinks to himself. "Very well," the Angel announces. "Welcome to the Kingdom of Heaven," and he lets Trump enter. A few seconds later, Bill Clinton comes up to the gate. The Angel is almost too shocked to speak. Thoughts of assassination and war pour through the Angel's head. Finally he says, "Mr. President, please tell me what it was like the day you died." Clinton says, "OK, picture this. I'm naked, inside a refrigerator......"

every sunday... (rant)

Every freaking Sunday U get to work around 11:40 and the mall opens at 12... There are people crawling around in here wondering when the stores are open and walk around all pissed off and angry that they are not able to shop yet... They stand in front of the gate of the store whose employees they want to harass and tap their foot, look at their watches, and roll their eyes... Since I'm in a kiosk with no gate to protect me from them I am subject to a flow of asinine questions like "why aren't the stores open?" Furthermore, they're so annoyed and bored because they have to wait to shop they all go to starbucks, making the line extend down the hall, so when mall employees who want nothing more than nice cup of joe to start off the day get in line, they realize they'll never make it back to work on time to open by noon and have to abandon their aspirations for sweet, sweet caffeine... those who still wait in the line at starbucks are late to open their stores, making the annoyed patrons more hostile... In short, all these people in here filling the mall with negative energy and making it so I (and everyone else who has to put up with these people all day) can't get coffee should explode.

I dumped mine 5ish years ago, but recently had to get one again because of the place I moved to is gated and to let people through the front gate you have to "buzz" people in by using your landline when they reach the gate. I hate it, cost me an additional $25 a month (no caller ID, no call waiting, just the basic), Id love to get rid of it again.

We have 2 doors coming in to our store (we are in a strip mall) and each of the windows has like a gate on them that gets pulled back. At least once or twice a day, we get customers trying to go through the window (pulling on the gate), or trying to go through a locked door, but today tops all of that. A woman tried to come into the locked door. It was locked so they came to the other door, walked up to my co-worker (right next to me), and asked if that door was locked. My coworker told her yes. The woman paid her bill and then turned and tried to go out the door that not only did she unsuccessfully try to go through to begin with, but had just asked if it was locked! How dumb can you get?

pronexs said: Why would anyone want to get push to talk. What advantage does it give to the customer? Convenience. Push-to-talk is like instant messaging for voice calls. A PTT call vs. a regular cell call goes something like this: Regular call: You speed dial the number. It rings maybe twice. Person on other end picks up and says, "hello." You say, "where did you park the van?" Other person responds, "behind the gate at the side of the building." You say, "OK, bye." Other person says, "bye." Total time spent making and completing this call: approximately 30 seconds. Now, let's do this same call on PTT: PTT call: You key up the person you want to talk to from your contact list, then you push the button and say, "where did you park the van?" Other person responds, "behind the gate at the side of the building." Total time making and completing this call: approximately 10 seconds. Now, do you see the benefit?

well on JB iphones there are customization, true not out of the box but its still possible. and there are multitasking on iphone once it is JB and with few apps (actually kinda fun on the iphones i've had) so in a way android (google) out of the gate did iphone OS (apple) should of when it first came out so android 1.5 and its previous incarnations could be likend to the 3g iphone in its capabilities in a way but didnt take many "generations" to get it done. But google did have time to "perfect" its OS out the gate while watchin apples mistakes and learning from them. I personally think we should go back to the old nokia 5120 pre-symbian OS to be safe lol JK JK JK

Azeron said: Sounds like the Fascinate is a phone to be avoided. Thanks for the info. I want to wait for Verizon's Evo but if I get antsy it will have to be the Incredible. In the long run, I think you are precisely wrong about avoiding the Fascinate. The Galaxy S line is going to be huge and will have masses of developers designing apps optimized for AMOLED battery consumption and the other quirks of the environment within the very near future. Just look at all the apps available now that ONLY work on Motorola Androids. I'd love to have DroidLight on my Fascinate, but I can't. The only reason that is happening is because Motorola was first out of the gate with a high-end Android and their software implementation is relatively consistent from device to device (provided you avoid the Motoblur lineup). Because the Galaxy S is Samsung's only compelling Android device in North America AND because they're marketing essentially the same hardware/software package (yes, I'm aware of trivial differences) to dozens of carriers in almost every major smartphone market in the world, it will catch up very, very quickly. There is no reason to expect otherwise. I've just got "Early Adopter's Disease" which I fully expected to get buying a new phone model straight out of the gate. There are some things that annoy me (like having to avoid Bing left and right) but nothing significant enough to drive me to another device and lose that great BOGO offer Verizon has running on it.

um.. you should look at what the internet is.... because you have zero clue what you are talking about. The internet is not owned by anyone. Infact, if anyone owns the internet it would be the massive server farms owned by companies like Amazon. Comcast, Verizon, Att, Time warner, and whatever other ISP under the sun do not have any control or ownership factor in the internet. They are merely gate keepers providing people ACCESS to the internet. The internet itself is comprised of public, private, and government owned networks interlinking with one another. All of what an ISP does is provide you access to that network. An ISP in general terms would be like a privately owned gate placed on roads it does not own. Now it was the government that made the internet and ALLOWED it to be commercialized. If the people wanted we could argue that the ISP are utilities (they did not invent the internet.) and allow government institutions to provide internet access. One City in particular did this to time warner because the Citizenry despised the Price hikes that there cable operator was doing. The ISPs have been given massive amount of subsidies to upgrade there networks only to see the government money vanish and the argument of network congestion is HIGHLY disengenious. BTW you hate socialization.. Then by your admissions we the tax payers OWN the ISPs because every ISP under the sun made their networks with government money. Why do you think ISP have no competitors in there regions? Network infrastructure is strictly controlled.. you would do well in reading up on the laws about how ISPs/cable companies are regulated and why ISPs/cable companies are regional Monopolies.

>>Erm, you are referring to a Retail store service that installs their own programs to "fix" issues, And if I referred to you as a certain grey cousin of the horse, you might think I was referring to its tendency to "he-haw" and poop wherever it pleases. But naturally, you would be wrong just as you are here. Your inability to understand analogies and metaphors really isn't my problem, and I won't bother explaining this one to you. But it will suffice to point out to you that my original analogy was in reference to products sold by Best Buy and covered under their service plan. Guess you missed that. >>I provided a copy and paste straight from Apples Support page referencing a way to fix the issue. Yes, and without bothering to research the issue before hand. That's exactly the kind of stuff they do at Best Buy. But it is obvious that there is a flaw in the OS that Apple isn't owning up to, and which may even be damaging users' hardware. And if the OS is indeed flawed, as evidence suggests, the first set of steps you included won't fix the issue. If they would, then why are there threads like this one, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4478539?start =0&tstart=0 ? All it will do is weed out the idiot iPhone users who don't know how to use their device. But it won't fix the problem for anyone actually having the issue. The last step, restoring your device, is the opposite of your supposed troubleshooting from earlier. That's the step that says, "I don't care to actually find out what went wrong in my software. Instead I'll just have the user reset everything to their inconvenience." >>No programs to install to fix the issue, just simple steps that can take 2-3 minutes to troubleshoot. Yes, and that won't fix the issue. Bravo. >>I suppose I could pull a percentage out of my butt and try and act all like I know everything about everything too. The word "gander" implies that a wild guess is being made. So not only do you not get analogies, you also have difficulty understanding the meaning of a sentence based on the context clues within it. But go ahead and find something showing that people aren't commonly having problems after trying your steps. I can Google too, and I've seen a plenty of threads that say otherwise. >> I wouldn't know, I didn't have the issue, just found the link by a Google Search so I can't say it would require a restore. Yea, I know. We already addressed your Best Buy-like behavior above. >>That's why you process a back up when you connect to iTunes if you need to do so. Something could have happened during the update process and caused the issue, IDK, that's why they provided options before the final option of restoring, which would resolve the issue if the issue persisted. But for some users this doesn't resolve the issue, does it? But you didn't bother to understand if this user, who was obviously awaiting a fix in another OS release because whatever previous efforts had not resolved the issue to this point, was one of those people. >>Maybe I do. Why you are so butthurt over an issue that isn't even yours? Having trouble understanding sarcasm as well? I don't have to be "butthurt" to think you're acting like a jerk. And since when are you the authority on not butting in on " an issue that isn't even yours? " >>So I suppose the steps on every manufacturers website that has the same set of steps are all wrong in trying to resolve these issues, huh? What???! Are we now going to pretend that we aren't talking about an Apple ecosystem that parrots everything Apple says. Of course all the sites list the "official" steps that are on Apple's support site. It wouldn't be the first time that a bunch of Apple sites were wrong because Apple was wrong in the first place. This is one of the worst appeals to the masses that I've seen on the internet in a while. >>Antenna gate ring a bell? blah blah about something else that wasn't part of the topic. Ummmm... maybe you never understood the topic in the first place? The topic was the fact that you we're being a jerk by offering some guy a set of troubleshooting steps that would ultimately lead him tor restore his device, while he was obviously waiting for Apple to provide an alternate solution in a software update; and that this behavior was akin to the kind of crummy service provided at Best Buy. And since you unequivocally hold up the official steps on Apple's support site as the only and final solution to the problem, then that begs the question of whether Apple has a good track record of providing the right steps. So yea, antenna gate is relative to the topic. >>I see where this is going Considering that you have missed practically everything to this point, you'll have to forgive me if I'm skeptical. >>and you are avoiding the original topic. How shocking. But wait, I'm not. You just weren't able to follow it. How shocking. >> Apple offers phone support, as well as in store support. WTF else do you want them to offer? How about real solutions to problems with their products. And what good is the phone and in store support if it doesn't provide the right answer, or it provides a solution that inconveniences the end user because Apple isn't willing to provide a better one? And if the quality of Apple's support isn't on topic, as you have suggested twice already, why are you rattling on about it here? >> Geeksquad service where they drive out to you as well? Actually, the first company (that I know of) with that service model was Dell. You will find that it was one of the key aspects that gave them the best name in customer service and propelled them to the top of the PC industry. So, If Apple is really the premium product company they claim to be, a service like that couldn't hurt their image any. But do I "expect" it of them? No.

>>It's apparent to me that you've not even read my review of the Galaxy Note 3. I read it when you wrote it. But no, I didn't revisit it before making my post. Perhaps I should have. >>Where in that passage did I "blast" the Note 3 for its size? You didn't. I've reread that section of the original review and also the wrap up. I don't see anywhere that you dinged the device for its size. I was echoing the perceived sentiment about large devices on this site. Perhaps what I'm remembering was from a Note 2 review or even the original Note. Nevertheless, you didn't make those comments about the Note 3. I gladly retract that statement. >>I've never "maintained that smaller screens are better." Rich prefers smaller phones because he has smaller hands.... I've praised lots of screens that measure >5 inches Perhaps I have you and Rich confused, but I've definitely seen that sentiment echoed in the forums recently. And I don't knock your preference or Rich's. It's perfectly fine to want a smaller screen in my opinion. This article just seemed to be such a break from that sentiment that it came across as quite hypocritical in my opinion. Perception and reality often are not the same thing. In this case my perception was that you guys pretty much hate the phablet category and preferred the smaller under powered iPhone. I dare say many others here have a similar perception. In this case I think it is apparent that reality is different, and so I'm willing to apologize for coming down on you so hard. Sorry. I mean that sincerely. >>Probably the chief reason I didn't compare the 6 Plus to the Note 3 is because the Note 3 is a year old and outdated. But it's still well ahead of the iPhone 6 in practically every category that matters to anyone I know interested in a phablet. Maybe it doesn't reflect well on Apple to compare the iPhone 6 to a year-old phablet, but the Note 3 is the device more evenly matched to the iPhone 6 in all honesty. As much as I hate Apple, I am a technology enthusiast first. If you revisit the comments section of the original iPhone 4, you'll find my sentiment that it had many compelling features (that was before antenna gate). As much as I hated Apple, I felt they had a solid device at the time. But with the iPhone 6, there is not one single feature that impresses me. The iPhone 6 really feels like the "me too" phone. It should be compared to phones from a year ago and even two years ago, because most of its features have been on other devices for that long. And maybe if Apple was forced to honestly admit that, their over priced devices would come down in price - a win for consumers. >>You might want to do your homework before flinging wild and inaccurate accusations about what I wrote. I'll admit that some of what I wrote was inaccurate. And I apologize for that. But many of us here don't feel it's far from off the mark of what we commonly hear echoed on this site either. I'll back off my stance that you were unfair to the Note 3. But I still feel the article is overly partial to the iPhone 6. It's features are anywhere from one to three years late to the party, and it has some serious short comings. Lack of real multi-tasking on a phablet should be a real deal killer for anyone interested in a phablet (though this might be acceptable on the smaller model). Also, there is no stylus. On a phablet that's almost as bad as a desktop without a mouse. And the resolution-dependent app scaling is an atrocious gaffe. Sure developers will fix the apps over time, but out the gate many apps are going to look like garbage on that beautiful screen. Furthermore, there are no game changing features that would cause a phablet user to rethink how he uses the device. I agree this is hands down the best device ever made by Apple. But it's also their worst product launch ever because it so arrived so far behind everyone else, brings nothing new to the table, and still lacks key features. If LG had released a device like this, I'd have a hard time thinking you guys would be so forgiving. Sure it's a huge improvement for Apple, but the latest Blackberry devices were big improvements over their own line as well. I didn't see you giving any glowing recommendations anyone run out and get one of those.
