A ##RTN is not needed for this... Call *2. Tell the rep that you need to reprogram your phone. They should walk you through the steps of entering ## then six numbers then # into your phone, then putting your phone number and MSID into the programming. After that, you press done and the phone should power cycle off and on When that's done, the lock will be reset to the last four digits of your phone number. ...

Re: How much of an employee discount are you getting for your Sprint phone?
Dec 27, 2004, 7:22 PM

I can see the benefit for the rest of the company but I agree it is not a benefit for those who were on the sales plan. It's still a tremendous bargain compared to the competition so no major complaints from me.

If that's your plan then you are hopefully a third party rep, not a direct Sprint rep. If you work directly for Sprint you need to ask your supervisor about the employee plan they just rolled out. Working at a Sprint corporate store, we have sales rep plans that are soon to be converted to general employee plans. The exact details of that plan are proprietary I believe. You get a great deal on your ...

Re: Sprint Service problems?!?!?

Does this problem persist or quickly correct itself? If it persists after power cycling(taking battery out & putting back) then your phone has had it. This is usually due to water damage from what I have seen. Only solution at this point would be to replace the phone.

Re: Should I switch to Verizon or stay with Sprint?
Dec 26, 2004, 6:05 PM
in the Sprint forum

If you want a phone with the tech goodies then definately stay with Sprint. Just look at the lineup of Verizon phones, especially their Samsungs. They generally have what Sprint has, but 6-12 months after Sprint. Verizon definately has a more robust coverage map, no questions there, but that's only an issue if you live out of a metropolitan area. Then again, if you live in a truly rural area then no carrier will get ...

Just spell out PRL- Preferred Roaming List. As others have said, and I just wish to concur- PRL only aids in Roaming areas to tell your phone which roaming network to use to get the best reception and save Sprint money. These days reception on roaming partners networks is pretty similar so the main function is all economic to keep roaming charges down. My old sanyo 4900 came with PRL 10017 and stayed like that until I stopped ...

I work at a corporate store, not in a mall but just outside of a large mall, and sales have been slow this season. This is my first holiday season in retail, but the other reps keep talking about the 'glory days' when they almost had to beat off customers with a stick they sold so much. Our store has done okay this month, but November was better. Speaking to other friends in retail and service ...

We have sales contracts that have a white(store)/pink(customer)/yellow(me) copy. I keep the yellow copy with the customer's info, ESN, new MDN, account #, etc. Through the month I log into our commissions system and see what has been accounted for and what needs to be appealed. If another rep in our store has stolen a sell I let him/her know and that rep will give me their next one in trade or I can submit an ...

Re: just got asked about the FREAKIN RAZOR again
Dec 20, 2004, 12:50 AM
in the Shop Talk forum

I sell for Sprint(corporate store). While I was selling a Treo 650 on a customer's Sprint account, he asked me to port over his TMobile # to the Treo. I saw he had a Razor in his other hand, and remembered he had said he had a Sprint phone, a Cingular phone, and a Tmobile phone. Sprint reps don't get a lot of opportunity to see Razors up close so I asked if that was his ...

Re: What's the oldest portable handset you remember seeing in use?
Dec 19, 2004, 9:54 PM

I think the model was a Qualcomm 4000 or something like that. It was about a foot tall, two inches wide, three inches thick. The battery alone was about the size of a Sanyo 4900. The customer had had it since 1996 and only had very occassional use for it. They were on one of those old 20 minutes for $20 plans. They finally came into our store to upgrade when the battery gave ...

This is the same complaint store reps have about call center reps. You don't know how many customers I've talked to who had vision added or text messaging, or whatever else two month trial that they apparently agreed to after some double speak on the phone three months ago. I've also seen 'Ringtones & More' on 3G phones, and lately I've been seeing a lot of customers with seperate codes for Vision & Ready Link, ...

Re: Can any Sprint employee help?
Dec 16, 2004, 3:50 AM

As you've said yourself, directly helping with this is grounds for termination. This is true with any company & any employee inappropriately releasing customer information. You need to contact the police & have them contact Sprint to request this information. Such info may be given to the police for them to deal with the person but will not be given to you due to confidentiality concerns. Also, I'd recommend removing the number you posted. ...

Re: Water damage blues

Lots of customers come see me and pretend to not know about how their phone was water damaged. My most memorable was when I opened up a phone and I saw the moisture and advised the customer. Customer tried to deny it, but I said, "Ma'am it's dripping on my hand." Of course there was no insurance on the account.

Re: Insurance Nightmare, any ideas?

My previous job was taking claims for a large trucking company. My current job is in a Sprint Corporate store. I have a unique perspective of seeing the insurance and carrier side of things, so here is my opinion for whatever it's worth. Since she never actually filed an insurance claim(since she was trying for warranty), that is not even an issue here, it's a warranty nightmare, not an insurance nightmare. She filed for whatever ...

Friday afternoon, 18:33, three minutes after I'm scheduled to leave. I had just finished activating new service for a customer and was tidying up their accounts, noting they had declined insurance and stuff like that when this guy who looked like a ticked off John Popper walks up to my desk. He has this huff and puff look about him that says he's gonna have his say and there isn't a thing I can do about it. ...

Re: Credits?

I think about $200-300 for roaming fees because the 'no-roaming' code was not applied to the secondary line as it was supposed to be. You have to provision the code on all lines to fully cover the account. One of the users roamed a lot so we had to credit it since a rep somewhere before had misconfigured the plan.

Re: Conditioning Lithium Ion batteries??!? Rich...?
Aug 16, 2004, 3:11 PM
in the Shop Talk forum

Lithion Ion batteries have a life span based on charge cycles. A charge cycle is used up when you charge the battery, so whether you've charged it all the way up, or just halfway up, you've used one cycle. If a battery has an expected life of 500 cycles and you always charge it when it's half empty then you've used it up twice as fast as you would if you waited till it was fully discharged ...

HS diploma or equivalent. At least a year in a customer service related area or working with the public. Lots of experience with computers and the ability to learn various new systems rapidly. Today I had a customer walk up and say that she was having trouble accessing her voicemail, that she had to call her own number to reach it. I thought to myself, there's nothing wrong here, so I took the phone, mashed the '1' button on her 4920 and reached her voicemail. I proceeded to demonstrate that yes indeed you reach voicemail by calling yourself and that the shortcut is the 1 key on her phone. ...

The worst thing at my store in the last few months was when a customer literally kicked our door in. I didn't close that night but this is about how it went from all accounts: We had a very busy day and proceeded to lock up at 7 pm as usual. The staff finished up with the customers who got there by 7 then did the closing stuff. At 8:00 a customer walks up to the door ...

Jul 26, 2004, 10:26 PM

To the post above, I for one set realistic expectations to customers I sell to. From a store sales/service rep perspective, my biggest issues are from third party retailers that set false expectations. As a corporate sales rep, if I screw it up then the customer comes back to me and I fix it, they aren't passed down the line so to speak. For 3rd party retailers there is much less accountability, in my area at ...

If you call up Sprint customer service, if you're eligible for the 18 month rebate, and tell them that you just want last year's model of phone instead of doing the mail in rebate for a newer model, they are VERY likely to just send you the older model and call it even. Aside from that, you can either take the mail in rebate and be happy that they are giving you $150 off a $150-600 phone or ...

Re: Is Sprint the next to fall?
Jul 25, 2004, 1:48 AM
in the Sprint forum

Sprint's not going anywhere any time soon. If anything, we'd merge with Verizon(compatible technology), but the FCC probably would not authorize that even if both companies saw it as profitable. Sprint would be stupid to spin-off the PCS division from the wireline division. The PCS stores and customer solutions do about a third of all sales for the wireline divisions. If the company split up it would seriously hurt profits.

Re: Sprint PCS credit checks?

in the Sprint forum

The only $250 deposits required that I see are for write-off accounts when they've had service in the past and didn't pay their final bill and it was sent to collections. Those and potentially fraudulent accounts get the higher deposit. You can walk off the street with no credit record, not even a SS#(such as if you are an immigrant) and get Sprint with only a $125 deposit.

Re: Is Sprint making wireless better?
Jul 25, 2004, 1:36 AM

I've been with Sprint for a year and a half, and I've worked for them for four months, so I've seen both the consumer and employee side of the company. Before Sprint, I had Suncom(later bought by AT&T), then Sprint. Suncom had horrible coverage and signal/call quality. Cingular had decent call quality, but no signal strength in my house or most of the areas that I needed it. That's probably improved since I left as ...

Still no problems that customers have brought to my attention. Almost all of them are going through in a matter of hours. I've got one tomorrow for a post dated activation that I have to set up to coincide with the birthday of a customer's wife, it's gotten that reliable. The only one's I've done are Cingular and Verizon though. The other carriers, besides my own(Sprint) aren't big at all in my area. Despite ...

I do sales & service in a Sprint retail store so I hear anything and EVERYthing as we all do in this business. A month or so ago a lady walks up to my desk and politely informs that her phone wasn't working anymore. I take a look at the phone and it's got that mildewy look that just screams water damage. I do the usual and pop the battery off to look at the moisture ...

I haven't had any customers call me to complain so I guess they all went through okay. I've done about a dozen since they started in our area two & a half weeks ago. The customers here know it's a new thing so they don't have unrealistic expectations. The important thing is to make sure the SS# is correct in the porting sequence, at least for our system(SprintPCS). If the customer gets their SS# wrong ...

Great service from an affiliate store?? Sure, that'd be the day. My store, Chattanooga, TN, is the only corporate Sprint store for 150 miles in all directions. We have tons of affiliate stores who misconfigure, make wild promises, and who can't do anything about busted phones or incorrect setups. Corporate stores are the only ones who can solve these issues, and we also have the info as to when porting is available in that area. Find ...

Re: I need help deciding on what to replace a A400 with... VI660, PM-6225, VI600 or VGA1000
May 8, 2004, 9:46 PM

Go back and get an 8100, or 8200 if you think you'll use ready link in the next year. Forget about the camera on the 8100, just look at the outside display, the signal strength, the much greater battery life, and the sturdier construction than the VI660. Nothing Sprint has beats our Sanyo phones. The 8100 has the best signal strength since the 4900. In terms of pure value over the life of the phone, ...

You sure about that? I sold this plan to two customers today. Each were looking at our old 300 minute plan, the one where overage is .40/minute. First you say it's a joke then you point out exactly why it's not a joke, because there are thousands of customers who have 300-500 minute plans who would benefit and also those who can't control or predict their usage. As far changing your plan every month, you ...

Best place to check is Sanyo's website. My store has gotten Dark Blue, Silver, and Red 8200's and I also see a black one on Sanyo's website. I haven't seen a pearl white 8200, but all that means is that Sanyo hasn't placed that color on their site or sent any to our store.
