Treo 680 as Modem for T-mobile??
Feb 16, 2007, 8:01 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I've followed the direction in the following URL to tethering my Treo 680 and can not get it to work! It connects via Bluetooth, but fails at the log-in point. Has anyone been able to get this to work? http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.p hp/Tether_with_Windows_XP I'm using the BlackBerry Unlimited plan with the APN wap.voicestream.com. ~J.

The 600 left a bad taste in their mouth for Palm products. At first the 650 wasn't much better - then Palm improved the OS with a series of patches. I currently use a Treo 680 on T-Mo. You'll pay more for an unlocked Treo, but you'll make up for the cost in service fees in the long run. Cingular will sell you a 680 for $199, but you have to sign-up for their over-priced data plan. ~J.

I love my 680! :D You can get a Treo 680 "cheaper" through Cingular, but you have to factor in the expensive data plan they make you sign-up for in order to get the discount. In the long run it's cheaper to get an unlocked Treo 680 and stay with T-Mo. ~J.

Treo, Blackberry Plan & ActiveSync?
Dec 17, 2006, 2:26 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I'm currently using the Total Internet with HotSpot data plan ($29.99) with my Treo 680. I've heard I can use the Blackberry Unlimited plan ($19.99) - since I do not want HotSpot. Is this true? Will it work with ActiveSync? (I assume so since ActiveSync is using port 443.) ~J.

Both my wife and I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile. The only advantage VZN has is their coverage. Here in San Diego, VZN has a great network. I haven't had a VZN call dropped while driving on a major freeway in recent memory. With T-Mo, I have calls dropped all the time. (I attribute part of this to my current phone.) I also liked VZN in store service center. The VZN store near my house would updated the OS ...

My guess is T-Mo will carry the Moto Q before they carry the Treo 700. It was rumored at one time that T-Mo would get the exclusive on the Moto Q, but apparently VZN beat them to it. I will probably switch to Cingular since T-Mo doesn't have much interest in the PDA market. ~J.

If you buy an unlocked Treo 650, you shouldn't have a problem using it with T-Mo. Beware, most people I know with Treo 650s are not happy with the phone. I'm holding out for the Moto Q or some other equivalent. ~J.

A while ago I read T-Mo was going to offer the Q first and they were trying to get it out with the pink Razr. However, recently I read that Verizon was going to offer the Q first. All-in-all every indication is that it will be available after the first of the new year. BTW, you can sign-up at Motorola for notification about the Q: http://moto.mrcampaign.com/motonext/seealltec h/q/ ~J.

I live in San Diego. Your coverage with Cingular will be the same as T-Mo. You need to switch to Verizon if you want the absolute best coverage in SoCal. I have a BB 7100. It's a decent phone and e-mail device, but the PDA functionality is weak. In fact, I still carry my ol' Palm Vx for a PDA. The BB is more stable than the Treo, but I still prefer the Treo over the BB. BTW, you should get ...

FoxTrot, you have a very good point! T-Mo has missed the boat when it comes to offering PDA phones. They (the carriers) make a ton of money from text messaging and data services, but T-Mo don't offer a decent phone for using these features. I hoping the rumored release of the Motorola Q phone will turn this trend around! ~J.

I have a BB 7100. It's a great phone and e-mail device, but the PDA functionality is weak. I still carry my ol' Palm for my Calendar, Task, Notes, etc.. For this reason I'm planning to get rid of the BB and get a Treo 650. If you don't care about the PDA functionality, then go with the BB, otherwise I would get a Treo. BTW, the browser on the Treo is much better than the BB. ~J.

I was a long time Verizon customer, all the way back to the early days of AirTouch. I switched to T-Mo about two years ago. In San Diego, Verizon has the best coverage. However, T-Mobile isn't far behind. T-Mo is much cheaper than Verizon and the customer service at T-Mo is excellent. T-Mo's phone selection stinks, but so does Verizon (at least when I was one of their customer's). As for Cingular, I've never used them personally, but a lot of ...

Not that I've heard, but I wish T-Mo would carry a decent PDA phone!! :( I'm currently on the fence. I'm thinking about either switching to Cingular to get a Treo 650 or spending the $$ to buy an unlocked Treo 650 to use with T-Mo. At this time I don't care for either option... ~J.

How to Improve Signal at Home???
Jul 20, 2005, 11:18 AM

I would love to use my mobile phone at home. Currently I get one bar if I'm lucky! Do they make signal amplifiers for GSM? Something I could plug in, perhaps with an antenna on my roof, that would amplify the signal to/from my phone to the nearest tower? (It sounds like a good idea, but my gut feeling is the FCC has a ban on such devices.) ~J.
