All I need an unbiased opinion!!!!
I have Verizon now And I am happy with there coverage area,
What I am frustrated with is the quality of the treo 650, It "SUCKS" 😈
I am on my 3rd unit same problems :resetting, freezes, speaker buzz's, and loses the bluetooth connection. Verizon will not admit that there is a problem with the 650's but yet you can read on this website all the issues that everybody has with the device. Hell Palm is being sued in Calif over the same issues.
It come down to this, I have a 400.00 doorstop, Verizon will not give me my money back, and if I WANT A NEW PHONE, I have to pay full retail!!! I can leave verizon and pay them there 175. no big deal my monthly bill is over 225.
I can change providers...

Verizon's coverage is the best. No doubt. It's hurts to say that. On the West Coast going by the coverage maps T-mobile and Cingular are similar. I did see somewhere that T-mobile and Cingular share towers out there. So what it comes down to is plans, and as everybody knows you can't beat T-mobile. Right now for $69.99 you can get Unlimited Blackberry and 1500 mins plus free nights and weekends. Your best bet would be before you decide try out both services and find out what's best. 14 days with T-mobile and 30 days with Cingular. It can't hurt to try.

I hate a treo 650 also and am thinking about switching to t-mobile b/c verizon refuses to send me another model. They believe that it's a service issue ( my txt works off and on, same w/ my voicemail notification) and i pay about 250 a month for myself and my fiance as well! I would say tmobile. I had tmobile about 2 years ago and was very happy with their coverage. It's not as big or reliable as verizon, but it worked where i needed it to and that's what counts! plus you can't beat some of their new plans they're putting out there. If you don't feel comfortable take advantage of the 14 day trial period and try to do it at a time where you'll be traveling to your most frequent destinations. that's my 2 cents

I am very sorry to tell you, but unfortunately, you will not be able to take your current treo 650 to tmobile. Vz uses CDMA/TDMA, and Tmo uses GSM-- Any device that uses a SIM card (and is unlocked if necessary) can be used with T-Mobile, but any device made for Sprint, Vz, Or Altell cannot be used twith tmo. Sorry. Currently, tmo does not have treo 650, but will be releasing some other smart phones by the end of February. Hope that helps, and T-mo Rocks!!!! LOL đŸ¤Ŗ

Indeed VZW's coverage is the best. However, what you are paying for is coverage that you will never use. How many times will you be in a cave in the uttermost remote parts of the desert?! A swamp? Trapped in a mineshaft? There is no reason to pay for that kind of coverage unless you work in a swamp, mineshaft or desert.

Ya could, but you'd be wrong bro.

I've had the bad experience of breakin' down in the middle o' nowhere. Gotta admit I was drivin' a pretty ghetto car at the time, but it happened, an' it sucked.

On the plus side, da three mile hike to the nearest farmhouse was good exercise.

😎 we all make bad choices. Most people make calls mostly in their local area but most people don't go for it because they travel once a year to aunt betty's for thanksgiving and don't want to be charged the roaming (what five bucks?). Doesn't make sense. People want a sense of security, be it false. It's like a person getting full coverage on a car that is worth a total of $1000. Only the monthly fee is so high he might as well save the difference and buy a better car.

I get dat havin' coverage out in the boondocks is only gonna be helpful infrequently, but when you need it out there, you REALLY need it.

I learned that one the hard way. ☚ī¸

As I said before, SUV mentality. Rationalize it however you want. "I know I pay more for insurance and Gas (especially gas) but if I ever go camping in the woods I'll really need a SUV. Besides, when I drive over a curb I hardly notice it" Liken that to "I know I am paying more per month for my cellphone. But every other blue moon I go to a place with no reception with other carriers so I picked "a" decided to pay more and think that I really do have more coverage but at the same time who knows right cause there are just some many factors involved in coverage. By the way, if you are so hot for V why are you in the T-mobile forum?

What I said doesn't need rationalizing, since its jus' common sense. 🙂

Oh, an' why are you so worried that I might like Verizon? It's not like you can't like mo' than one carrier at a time. T-Mobile has good customer service, cheap rates, an' definitely has its place fo' some people, like total urbanites who never go out to rural areas. But that isn't me.

Is it so wrong to be different than yo' demographic? Hum, thas' sure a weird point o' view.

I am biased but I will try my best to give you an unbiased opinion.
I work for T-Mobile. I am one of the first reps to tell you that Cingular and T-Mobile both have their good and bad points.
T-Mobile has a lot better coverage now than what they used to. However to take advantage of that coverage you need to get a domestic Quad or Tri-band device with the 850 mhz frequency to get that coverage.
Cingular claims they are the best because they have over 50 mil customer. Are they better? I can't say for certain.
Comparing plans: T-Mobile wins hands down!
Customer Service: T-Mobile is the only wireless company in the US to win JD Power awards 2 yrs running.
Who to talk to: All of cingular's plan have unl mob2mob. They have 50+ mil ...

😁 😁 Applause!!!Applause!!! 🙂 🙂

That definitely sums up the type of character the service reps of T-Mo have. I am a tmo user so i guess u can consider me biased. The service works everywhere there is civilization but if u plan on mountain climbing out on the alps than i recommend another carrier. Although the 1900Mhz doesnt penetrate through buildings that well resulting in SOMETIMES a low reception indoors. If u plan on traveling overseas do not even think about it twice and get urself a T-mo account. and the plans are getting better by the minute for T-mo.

I was a long time Verizon customer, all the way back to the early days of AirTouch. I switched to T-Mo about two years ago.

In San Diego, Verizon has the best coverage. However, T-Mobile isn't far behind. T-Mo is much cheaper than Verizon and the customer service at T-Mo is excellent. T-Mo's phone selection stinks, but so does Verizon (at least when I was one of their customer's).

As for Cingular, I've never used them personally, but a lot of my family and friends are with Cingular. (I know more people with Cingular than the other carriers.) From what I've heard, Cingular's customer service is a nightmare. Their coverage is the same as T-Mo. They're more expensive than T-Mo but cheaper than Verizon. However, I do think Cingular has the...

Both Cingular and Verizon make you sign a two year contract to do anything. T-Mo standard contract is one year.

Hope this helps.

Hum, you can get a one-year contract with Verizon. Cingular too, I'm pretty sure.

You can, but if you read the fine print, you have to sign a two year contract to qualify for any of their specials.

in the us verizon has the best coverage. tmobile is considered the worst in the us, but they have the best customer service in the country. i have tmobile and i have had no problems with the service at all. if u go outside the us, tmobile is the best for international roaming. no other comany can come close on that.

Our Treo Rep said there are some software glitches on this device but can be resolved at http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo 650updater/verizon.html.

The individual carriers are not responsible for "issues" with this device in their stores. If you can get in touch with palm customer care I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

As far as service, CDMA carriers like Sprint and Verizon can offer service in remote areas with Analog Roaming options. Where as Providers like T-Mob, and Cing cannot. I read somewhere on this forum that 90% of the country still uses voice only (Analog). It seems that having a dual band phone would be a lot more reliable. Especially out here on the West Coast.

Sprint Rocks!

Dont you mean tri-mode? Dual modes only work with the combo of AMPS 850/ PCS 1900 or CDMA850 (depends on carrier) or CDMA 850/ PCS 1900, where as with tri modes you have AMPS 850/CMDA 850/PCS 1900. And it isnt the nation that is 90% analog, it is Sprint PCS network that is.(if you pay close attention to their service map the light green is all AMPS roaming and the dark green is PCS and the brown is extended PCS (roaming without the charges).
