Ringtones

Is it possible to use the mp3 files on the micro-sd card as ringtones for the 8600? I am very experienced at mailing ringtones to my RAZR but was always hoping that with the use of sd-cards we could do this.

Beware of Plastic Holder

I know some don't like the plastic holder because it faces backward. I did not mind this and even thought it even made sense the way it faced as it pointed in the right direction when removed. BUT - after using it for two days I see that the top of the phone has marks that keep getting bigger - hard to describe but it is like it is taking off the top layer of the plastic? from the phone where it attaches. Not acceptable. My razor did not do this. I am going to take back the phone and switch it to a another new one, give back the plastic holder and get a pouch. Maybe some are right about the general build of the phone, but I am still going to keep it as I really like it.
P.S. For those interested in ringtones - I emailed a 1 mg file t...

Calendar - Default Tone

Anybody know how to change the default tone for an event in the calendar?

The default seems to always be 'Ring 2' with vibrate off. I have been able to change all the other default sounds on the phone.

WORD function - need help.

I'm new to LG. Is there a way for the Word function to suggest words as I'm typing the text. With motorola, if I typed a few letters of a work it would suggest the rest of the word. This made texting a lot faster. Maybe I'm overlooking something simple, but is there a way to make this phone do that?

Realization

I just realized that many of you are using the 8600 after using phones like the LG 8300 and the motorola 815. I now see why you love the looks of this phone, it is the best looking phone verizon has. I am coming from Treo's & other high end Sprint phones. I hope I can keep this bad boy but some things like reception and durability still bother me.

CAN YOU READ INCOMING TEXTS ON FRONT SCREEN?

With previous LG models the front buttons gave you the ability to read incoming texts without ever opening your phone. Is this option available on the 8600?

Everyone who compares to RAZR AND KRZR

The 8600 is a LG phone and all phones are comparable as with anything nowadays. Also LG announced the 8600 prior to the KRZR it just happened the KRZR got released earlier and as for RAZR it is just a horrible phone that people buy because everyone else has it. Just my 2 cents.

My First Impressions

Hi,
I activated the phone last night. Here is what I have done so far.
1-2 Charged the battery - activated phone
3. I had purchased a 1gig micro sd-card, which I then formatted in the phone Menu-settings-memory-card memory. I have relatively large fingers and it is hard putting the card into the phone and removing it.
4. Removed card and placed it in a 6 in 1 card reader and copied 6 .mp3 files to the my sounds folder. When placed in the phone only 3 were added (need to check if the file names are too long for the other 3 songs? Could that be it?).
5. Tested out the player - fine.
6. Set up my bluetooth - I have the moto H700. It paired right away and I made a quick call which sounded fine - speech recognition recognized the ...

Old Ringers

Ok...just picked up this phone, and I have some old ringers from my moto E815 that I have moved from my micro SD card to every new phone I've had since the E815, but this phone won't let me use them as ringers. I can't even see them except in the memory area that shows what i have on my card...please let me know how i can make these work as ringtones. thanks!

Does this phone have an LED flash or not????

Okay, I am PO'd now. I've been listening to ppl who have this phone and they all say it DOES NOT have camera flash ability. BUT, VW states it does on their website under "phone features", a VW rep even said it does to me online, and a rep in the mall kiosk said it doesn't.

Does it or doesn't it????? I just want to know. I can never get a straight answer from the reps anymore. (Sorry to those of you who are reputable reps out their, but some just aren't that knowledgable of the products they are selling).

8600 speakerphone problem, not LG's fault

I am just as dissapointed as any one with this speakerphone problem, so I wrote LG and told them how stupid they were for doing this. Some from LG quickly responded and told me it was not LG that made that decision, the carriers tell them how to make them and what to put on them, so I stil love Verizon, but that is stupid, how hard could it be to allow the phone to close and keep the call going. Does anyone know if you can close the 9900 while on speakerphone, the 9800 you cant.

Nice, but have to return it.

😳

I was SOO excited about this phone being released, i followed the threads, kept up to date on all the details and salivated over it just like so many other people did.

I have to say, after 4 days with this phone that all of its good qualities dont override some of the concerns I have had about it the past few days.

1. Hinge Quality-- Mediocre at best. Compared to other slim phones like the RAZR, KRZR, Katana, the hinge on this phone feel very weak and i held 6 or 7 different phones and they all had the loose feel when closed.

2. User Interface-- It's an improvement. But it is still the UI that Verizon has dictated for all of its EVDO phones.

3. Size-- While it is certainly slim, the ununsual configuration of the antenna m...

Question for Mary424

😕 Mary, I check phonescoop out frequently, and you have consistently had good information on phones. I've heard (and read) some BAD things about the 8600 (no specific tone for a contact when they text, no 3 types of ring, bad camera)....I just want to know YOUR opinion, as it is one that I respect on here.

Am I going to regret ordering this thing? My last 3 phones have been 8100, 8300, and Chocolate. The 8300 (sans reading text externally) was my favorite, so should I just kick back to it?

Thanks for the info...

BT Locked? wtf??

Ok, this is the first phone I've had that uses bluetooth. The first day I paired it to my computer, downloaded some pictures and a song to it just fine. Now, all of a sudden when I try to open the OBEX File Transfer folder, I get a message that says "Server does not support this operation." What happened? Is it my computer, or did I somehow download an update that locked the BT file transfer? Or what? I did download the ringtone program, would that have anything to do with it? Please help!

Thanks,
Jon
