Set the outer display

Someone in the forum mentioned their disappointment that the outside display turns off after only 3 seconds.
You can keep the outer display on all the time if you want (taken from the VX 8100 forum).
Open the phone. Press OK. Press 0 (zero). The screen will display service code. Enter six 0's (six zeros). In the service menu, choose 2--Field tests. Scroll down to A (power save mode). Choose OFF.
This will keep the outer screen on all the time. I have no idea what it will do to battery life. I also don't know if it changes the settings for the inside screen.
I haven't the guts to play with all of the other menu functions, but if you do, post what you learn.

Echo

I got this phone last week and every time I spoke into it, I could slightly hear my voice in my ear. It wasn't like a normal echo that you hear on most phones from time to time, but it was more like as soon as I spoke I could hear myself. I figured I must have just gotten a defected one, and they all couldn't be like that, so I exchanged it for another one and the new one is doing the same thing. Does anyone else have this problem with the LG 8600?

New Trend????? I hope not.

I must say...when I first saw the information & pictures on the 8600, I was sold. When it released however, I went to the local Verizon store to find that the damn thing has the polished finished on the outside shell. I hate the KRAZR because of that, and now this phone. That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. You can't touch the thing without making noticeable smudge prints all over it. I hope that this new polished finish is not the new trend that the new phones are going to have. Needless to stay I stayed with my 8300 for now. I hope to hear what you guys think. Take care, and have a good and safe Thanksgiving.

Lg vx8600 colors

I asked this same question in the Verizon thread and was hoping for more info here. I am very interested in getting a lg vx8600. However, I was wondering if anytime in the future it would be receiving the same color treatment as the Chocolate just got. More specifically the Mint color. If so I would hold off until the Mint vx8600 was available. Thanks for any info anyone may have.

Lg vx-8600 vs. Lg vx-8300 vs. Lg vx-8100

🙂 HI!!!

So I just got the LG VX-8600 about three days ago and I have to admit I LIKE the fact that it is thin and has this sexy appeal to it...BUT i am wondering if its all worth it. I got this phone not because of a NE2 (new every two) but i did get a discounted price for it when the rebate comes in of course. 😛

Anyways, my question is now should i stay with this phone or go with either the 8300 or 8100.

The things i look for in a phone are:
-reception
-speakerphone
-text/video capability
-ability to personalize it
-call clarity
-of course PRICE

i don't know...maybe i am just being a little brat about this phone stuff. 🙄

EVDO clarification

I used to have a Samsung 650 that I could set up as a modem, using just the minutes on my phone. I'm looking for another phone now, that can do the same. The 8600 looks sooo pretty, I'd like to get it, especially since my new every two comes due in a few days, it'll just cost me $29.

Is that what the EVDO is, or is it an extra monthly charge on this phone? This is still the 1X network, right, not the broadband network, cause I'm pretty sure, where I live, we don't have broadband wireless available yet.

Thanks for any insight you guys can give me!

Delayed Texts & Dropped Calls

I have had this phone all of 2 days and I have already experienced 4 dropped calls and a couple text messages have been 2-3 hours delayed.

I didnt have these issue with my 700w and I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing?

I did a PRL update earlier but it didn't help. Feedback would be nice because if this phone continues the current trend I can't keep it.

Another reason for the need for a S/W upgrade....

Today, just after I got off a call, my phone went dead! The battery was COMPLETELY out! I had NO indication that the battery was about to die. According to the battery level, I had one bar left. My previous LG's at least beeped and the battery symbol flashed when it was on it's last "leg". This happened right as I was walking into the Verizon Wireless store to talk about the missing "cover" on the port on the back of the phone. The store rep told me she had several complaints on this but it's the first time I'm hearing about it. She ended up replacing the phone entirely, which I'm greatful for. We'll see if it happens again on the new phone.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? ☚ī¸

Erasing Text Messages

Has anyone experienced an issue with deleting individual text messages. I see that the left soft key indicates erase, however, when i push it, it does nothing. I've tried with the list of texts and also with a message open - neither work? User error or software issue? thanks

Speakerphone

Why is the speakerphone such a big deal? Do you all really use it that much? I never use it.

This phone already needs a big software update

I don't know if I can keep it. Razors are cheap I guess.

Questions to Phone Owners

I have few questions for the phone owners:

1. Does this phone have a regular headset jack? or do you have to use proprietary cable to connect on the bottom?

2. Does it use the same battery as 8100/8300?

3. Does it have announce alert, when the phone reads to you who's calling or texting from your phonebook? 8100 has that feature and I love it.

4. Can it be hacked to use EVDO connection through bluetooth on your PDA or Laptop, like 8100 or is it now restricted and you have to sign up for a plan to use it?

Appriciate your replies.

thanks,

Arkady

Listening to Music

Does anyone know if 2 people can listen to music from the same phone at the same time? I am planning on buying the wireless blue tooth stereo headphones and wondered if you could plug in the wired headset and have a 2nd person listen with the bluetooth at the same time?

how to turn off EVDO

I don't use any of Get It Now nor Vcast. I assume they use the EVDO. Would disabling it give me better battery life? If so, anyone knows how to turn that thing off?

Missing piece?

I got my phone on Friday and am just now realizing that there might be a missing piece. I"ve tried to find pictures of the back of the phone on different websites but can only find the inside and front/outer pics.

To everyone who has this phone, is there something covering the data port (assumingly) hole on the back of the phone? I have a "hole" in the back of the phone, at the bottom, just left of the center. I can see a gold circular thing that looks as tho a cable could be inserted. Is this suppose to be covered? I can just see it getting dusty or wet without it being covered.

I'll probably be going to the store tomorrow to double check anyway, but seeing if I"m the only one missing this, or if the phone just comes this way. Thanks!...

Why dont people wait for all the bugs to be fixed!!

I dont get it, when a new phone comes out everyone has to run and go get it. Verizon is very good with software updates for customer complaints and so on. Sometimes a phone does come out and is good from the get go, but not too often. I usually wait about 6 months to see how a new phone really comes along....Usually the bugs need to be worked out! I alway's notice the reviews get better in time after the software has been updated to satisfaction. Just my opinion. I love my vx8300 and I am sure the vx8600 will be just fine.

Thanks, Steven in SoCal.
