I have one very "noobish" question... if i do not get Vcast for this phone can i still listen to music on it and load music to it from my computer and is Vcast worth the $15 a month?

YES! You can use the music and mp3's on your phone even without V-cast. V-cast is definitely not worth $15/month, especially if you area doesn't provide good EVDO coverage, but mobile web 2.0 for $5.00/month is a much better idea, you get a lot of info, you can check weather, email, stocks, etc. any time.
