😕 Mary, I check phonescoop out frequently, and you have consistently had good information on phones. I've heard (and read) some BAD things about the 8600 (no specific tone for a contact when they text, no 3 types of ring, bad camera)....I just want to know YOUR opinion, as it is one that I respect on here.
Am I going to regret ordering this thing? My last 3 phones have been 8100, 8300, and Chocolate. The 8300 (sans reading text externally) was my favorite, so should I just kick back to it?
Thanks for the info...
And for your College football people....2 words....GO BUCKS!

jstkdn,
I feel special! Thank you for respecting my opinions on here. Means a lot. 😁
Anyway...so far, I really like the 8600 and have yet to find much fault in it. As far as no distinct text ID, not really a big deal to me as I don't text much, so that is not something I have been bothered by. The camera, in my honest opinion, is just as good as any other 1.3 on an LG. Yes, there is no flash, but a phone's flash is different than an actual camera's flash anyway, and really doesn't make much of a difference, in fact, I think sometimes a phone's flash makes the pic turn out worse. I've also heard a lot of people on here complain about the loudness of the speakerphone. I have no complaints there either. Sounds good to me. The ...

I checked out the 8600 at Circuit City and was highly disappointed. Awkward pressure plate type keyboard, inconvenient charging port, light and flimsy construction. It is basically a girly phone. I opted for the UTStarcom G'zOne. You can't make a better choice with VZW.

G'Z doesn't have bluetooth.
I wanted to buy the G'Z for my wife...she is hell on phones...but, I also plan on replacing her stock stereo in her vehicle with one that has bluetooth integrated for making/receiving calls, so she doesn't have to use the handset while driving.
As far as the 8600. I bought one. Love it so far.

Yeah that phone is cool if you like having a cage attached to it...I guess you could play lacrosse with it when its not blocking out the sun.
...
The bumper ("cage", as you call it) is no problem. I removed it very easily; it was just held in place by two small phillips head screws.

Smart Choice! 😉

personally I don't like phones that have to have parts physically removed to improve usability.

😕 what how so?

Really??? That ugly thing?? I wondered how that G'zone phone even got in the line-up!!
...
Thank you! As a VzW employee you would THINK that I'd have played with it before I ordered it, but it's an LG, and as far as phones go, I'm as addicted to LG as the Marlboro Man is addicted to cigarettes! 😉
One last thing - bt on the Chocolate seems good, but there was the whole echo thing on the 8300....how's it been for you?

How do you feel about the reception of the 8600? The only LG I have owned was the 6100. Some people liked it, but I thought it was horrible. I have always had better luck with Moto. I currently have the Moto e815, but it is starting to go bad on me...dropping calls, getting static, and my favorite of turning itself off whenever it feels like it. I get a phone for the phone itself. Mp3, camera and such are a secondary priority. When my e815 was working well, it had the best reception I have ever had. Sorry to ramble on. I appreciate your time and advice!

Reception is great for me!

Good morning Mary. I know that you have played around with many phones as I have. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can compare the build quality of the 8600 to the razor and krzr. I will give the 8600 credit for what it is. It's a nice phone for the money. Is it better then the razor? In all honesty, I don't think so. Is it better then the krzr, In all honesty, I don't think so. The 8600 has a nicer screen then the 2 I mentioned, but thats about it.
...
Mary, have you played with the KRZR at all? I'm wondering about your opinion of the difference between those two phones?
...
I really wish the krzr didnt have the verizon UI, I would buy it in a second if that were the case.
...
I can answer your question. I have used the krzr, razor and 8600. I can give you a long speech on why I pick what I pick but I won't do that.
In a nutshell, the 8600 is just what it is...a good phone. The only thing it has over a razor or krzr is the internal and external screen. Both the razor and krzr are built better with better material. I sent back the 8600, retired my razor and am now using the krzr with the extended battery. I will ask all of you that are thinking about buying the krzr. Try it with the extended battery and I am convinced that you will agree that it's the best feeling phone out there.
Later.

Do you have the Krzr with Verizon?
If so, does the UI cripple the phone like I think it does?
I might want the krzr still...
...
I have the Verizon krzr. When you say cripple the phone, what are you asking? The UI is just fine for what I use a phone for. I don't do skins, speical ringtones, seam edits, crap like that. I want a phone first, not a toy. Good luck in your choice.
