Wireless History 101

This is just something I've been thinking about for a while.....

How many of you (not sprint employees) know how Sprint started the break up of ATT? Otherwise known as MaBell, back in the day.

I did a survey of 100 customers last week, ranging in age from 16-65, I asked them if they knew what the little logo for Sprint was in reference to. Only 4 people remembered the refference. The best answer I got was a mathematical whiz kid, who told me some BS story about it being a parabolic representation of what the signal looks like as it travels through space. I'm still giggling about that one.

So how bout it. I'm sure that at least more than 4 people in here know the answers to both of these queries.

Free chargers for all whiners!

This guy just came up and wanted to purchase a wall charger. When I told him the price, he whined like a five year old! "But that's sooooo expensiiiiive! Can't you just give me one of those over theeeere?" No, I can't give you the charger we use to charge our demos, sorry. Then he kind of just stood there until I said, "so would you like to purchase one?" "Well I guess I haaaaave toooooo!"

Then his card was declined..."Are you suuuuure you can't just give me one, pleeeease?" I offered to charge his phone while he was in the mall, and his response? "That's not good enough! Thanks a lot!"

What's especially sad is he was my first customer of the day, and we've been open for two hours. I hate it when a moron sets the tone for my entire da...

Looking for Information on New and Preleased Phone Launches...

I'm looking for contacts who can help me identify the latest phone models--preferably pre-release info or accurate release dates. Or information on how to access this info. For example: Cingular Motorola KRZR----is it coming out? and when? who knows more than just rumors.

Interested? Let me know

Nearyby markets!

Okay, I hate being near a transitional market. I've said it before, and whined about it enough, probably, but I hate being within 10 minutes of another area code!

In OKC, they are offering a penny camera phone. It's just a Samsung, but still, it's a penny. In order to get it, you have to have a billing or residence in the 405 area code.

I've had three customers stomp out of the store because I can't price match the OKC prices. The last one didn't even want the Samsung, she just wanted another phone for a penny, and she just left in a huff!

I'm just venting, there's nothing anyone can do about all this.

Did I mention that the OKC paper is delivered here daily? (With a huge, one page add for a penny phone)

Did I menti...

Backdated Billing..(Is it that hard to comprehend!?!?)

I keep the explanation simple. Our company uses advanced billing. I get this problem all the time, it's like I'm teaching basic math to these people.

When customer calls us to backdate their plan, (on Dec 15th 2006 for example) their next bill looks as follows:

$39.99 Idiot's Choice 450
12/01/06 - 12/31/06
-39.99

$59.99 Idiot's Choice 900
12/01/06 - 12/31/06
59.99

$59.99 Idiot's Choice 900
1/01/06 - 01/31/06
59.99

I simply explain that we bill in advance, they paid us 39.99 in advance for their previous plan 39.99, called us in the middle of the month to change it as a backdated change to 59.99, I explain to them that more minutes cost more money so we are simply charging th...

Why would she mislead me like that?

So this guy calls up having a tantrum because he was 'given wrong information' when he purchased his bluetooth headset. He claims the rep told him it would do voice dialing and it's not working. He wants a free upgrade...

Situation:

He has a Sidekick 3... Sidekicks don't support voice Dial. No amount of upgrades on the headset are going to give him the option to use voice dialing.

He claims the rep who sold him the headset mislead him by saying the headset supports voice dial.

It does. The HEADSET absolutely supports voice dial. The nice young lady who sold you the headset doesn't deal with the phones, you have the phone, you are the one who should know if it does the voice dial... adding the headset won't change what the ph...

ridiculous customers

So I have this lady in my store. The weird thing is I used to mow her lawn with my brother and she is so psychotic. Probably the most demanding person I have ever met. She keeps harping at one of my co-workers that she is in a huge hurry and that she needs to get her son to his kung fu lesson. Right after she says that she asks him a barrage of pointless questions that shouldn't be asked. When I helped her before she asked me the quickest way to set up a phone I told her to just be quiet and let me work. Well, that worked for about 30 seconds. Then when my co-worker started helping her she just waisted more time talking yet at the same time complained about being in a hurry.

"Is this the 'reacharound' button?"

I was eating my dinner and listening to my co-worker sell a Sony W810i to this young guy (maybe 22-23), and while he was navigating the menu's, he got stuck.

He then obviously looked at the "back" button, which on Sony phones looks like a hook, and says, "Is this the reacharound button?"

😳 😳 😳 😳

Then my co-worker says, "No, it's just the back button. Don't call it a reacharound button."

And then I chimed in, "Yeah, you'll have to go to the homos at the Verizon kiosk to get that sort of service."

We laughed. We sold a phone. And now I'm eating a chicken quesadilla.

C= customer
t= team member

C= so there is nothing you are willing to do to solve my problem

T= its not that we are unwilling to slove your problem you do not have equiptment to repair phones.

C= so since your not willing to do anything I guess I should just go to your competitor

M= you could insure your phones since they have been breaking before your upgrades forthe last 6000 years

C= no i had insurance

SMorris?

Hey... I remember you saying that you worked for myspace.

I got a virus from a myspace user trying to add me as their friend. I look at the people's page before I approve them and such and then BAM I was hit with a Trojan Horse.

My question is, should I contact "Tom"? Or is there someone I can contact? I would hate for other people to get the virus I have, since I can't get rid of it.

This really did happen

This batty old lady was just in here saying she needed to know how to get her phone off of Spanish. I thought she had accidentally put her menus on Spanish. But no, she was calling customer care and saying that it as only in Spanish. So I called it on speakerphone and it said 'welcome to ___. Para espanol, presione dos' and she said 'see, it's in Spanish' so I kept the call going and about three seconds later it was in English. She had apparently been so upset by the fact that it said anything in Spanish she immediately hung up every time.
God.
Oh, and she got really pissed and asked for my manager's name somehow in the space of 5 minutes.

What is it with people?!

Just had a guy get upset because his phone was going to be Free with 2 year renewal and NE2 discount after Mail In Rebate because he want's it for less than free, because new customers get it that way, so he should be MORE important because in his eyes he get's $100 off of Free. Then when we offered to bundle together all of his accessories (bluetooth ($64.95), leather case ($24.95), and car charger ($24.95)..total value of $114.85......for $79.99.......he grumbled even more. You know what dude? Drive your happy @$$ back up north 45 miles to the corp store that you said didn't want to help you. Cuz we're done trying!

Last time I checked $80 for all three of the above mentioned accessories, plus the phone that we're getting tremendous ...

MP3 Phones

I have to say, I never anticipated putting MP3 players on phones would cause so much grief.

Phone companies are kind of bastards where they are concerned too... the phone comes with the player but it's not truly functional... the memory on most phones is pathetic, maybe three songs if you're lucky and then you have to buy a $60 memory card to put songs on it (and the T619 has to be the dumbest phone ever, abysmal memory and NO memory card slot at all.)

Additionally most of the phones we carry with a player do not come with a data cable, you have to buy those as well to transfer the songs (unless you have like a blue-tooth connector for you computer or your computer can read the memory cards and you transfer the music that way) which wi...

Elderly people...

...some of them should not have phones, especially if they've had a medical problem that may impair their judgment, such as a stroke...and they really shouldn't get phones for other people...they can be taken advantage of. So sad, but true.

If you don't verify what I ask for, you'll get NO information from me. None. Nein. Zippo. Zilch.

C=Yeah, I want to know (what I owe/why my bill is $300/if I can get a new phone)
M=Can you please verify the last 4 of your social?
C=You don't need that. Just tell me what I want to know.
M=Actually sir/ma'am, I do.

*crickets*

C=Are you gonna tell me (whatever it is I asked you?)
M=Sir/Ma'am, we require that you verify this information before I can release any account information. The last 4 of your social?
C=Isn't it right there on your screen?
M= 🙄 Yes it is, I need you to verify it.
C=I'm not giving you that.
M=Then I can't assist you. Thank you for calling--
