interesting update...

I'm not going to pull the old post out, but I'll share an update.

Some of you gave me crap for the way I handled a certain customer who screamed at me about her kid and his text bill. Well, she called me about 5 minutes ago and apologized for the way she came in screaming. She asked me to block text on the account UNTIL THE KID CAN FIND A JOB TO PAY FOR HIS OWN TEXT!!! It sounds like they plan to pay him allowance for doing chores at home, but still, he has to do something for the money and decide how he wants to spend it.

So, while I may have been a little harsh in my defensive state, the customer apparently didn't hold a grudge too long. She got my point and she's still one of our customers. I can only assume she called to co...

Holiday Directory.......

despite my mall being a straight line, 5 directories, 2 customer service desk. and mall maps, they still ask our store for directions.

here's a few of my favorite scenarios:

(A little fat kid)

C-where can i find Yu-Gi-Oh cards

M-*didn't look his direction, pointed to the wrong direction (the GNC store)

(T-mobile customers)

C-where's a t-mobile store?

M-...i really don't get why you ask people like me that, why don't you ask Burger King where's McDonalds?

C-*turns red and walks away*

(White Ghetto People)

C-Yo, where's Foot Locker?

M-*pointed to the GAP*

(Really Rude Person)

C-Where the hell is the food court?!

M-*points at the trash can* enjoy!

(Spanish people who can't speak english)

C-You es ...

grrr...

I hate it when 12 year old kids call in and try to tell me that their contract plan is in their own name and they want me to add text messaging and sell them a new phone and this and that and the other thing.

KID...YOU CAN'T HAVE CREDIT. YOU CAN'T SIGN A CONTRACT. YOU'RE NOT 18! IT'S NOT IN YOUR NAME.

Then the have the complete indecency to get mad at me when I won't make changes to the account. The truth is...I literally CAN'T make changes without the last 4 of the social. My system won't let me...period.

Grrr...

8-bit theater is great for work

it's soooooooooo slow, 8-bit theater is the only thing keeping me awake, watching BM stab Fighter over and over makes me imagen how bad i wanna do it to customers.

me: no, it's made by samsung.

c: how much is it?

me, in my head: how the hell would i know? do i sit here and look up prices for other companies' phones and memorize them? no, i don't... why don't you go right over there to cingular and ask them because it's their job to know that, not mine.

Changing jobs

First post!

I've been lurking around phonescoop for awhile (can't post from work). I currently work in a direct company call center and I just recently got a job in a direct store. I don't know about all companies but with mine there seems to be a call center vs. store mentality. Reps are always complaining about the way store reps screw everything up and vice versa.

I'm really looking forward to the change of pace. Which do you think is easier, in store or over the phone? and why?

Unlocking phones

When will people learn not all phones can be "unlocked". Yes it is now legal to circumvent the software lock companies put on phones. However, you can't use CDMA phones on a GSM network, GMS phones on a CDMA network, and a vast majority of the time you can't use another CDMA carrier's phone on a different CDMA network. The two systems work differently! And why o why must customers argue that just because they have some box that phone is "unlocked" for any carrier. I've just learned to smile and say sorry that won't work and not debate the issue any further. I just wish customers would stop thinking they know my job better than I do. ::sigh:: and with that I'm gonna go get ready to go home...

Imaginary Plan

So I have this older guy come in with his 3 foot long beard and start asking me about prepaid... he grabs a brochure and starts telling me thats what he wants. He asks me to explain...
M: Well for $50 a month you can get

C: $50! What are you talking about?!?!?

M: Well the plan you said you wanted starts at $50 and..

C: Well Cingular has a plan where you pay $20 and get 400 minutes to use within a year!

M: Well Verizon doesn't offer any type of year long prepaid plans..

C: Well maybe it was 3 months or something, start telling me the truth!

M: Well, maybe you were talking about the inpulse which is gonna run you near $30 a month..

Retail Store What carriers's to sell?

If you were going to open a new Retail wireless store and wanted to give customer's a choice of 2 carrier's 1 GSM 1 CDMA. Who would you pair together T-Mobile and Sprint or VZN and Whatever they call the NEW AT$T wireless division( formerly Cingular) or vice versa.

I'm new a round here but I just had the most bizarre call. (ive been lurking sometime). I work in a call center for sprint nextel.

me: thank you for calling yadda yadda
c: yea man i called earlier man and the guy told me i needa esn switch swap somethin like that man (lots of coughing and "thats some good sh***! heard in background)

me: uh, can i get the phone number on your account?
c: 111-111-1111
me: *pulls up account* ... and the name of the business sir?

c: business? its not a business account i dont think
me: ... this doesn't appear to be your number. can I get your social?
c: im not the account holder, and i dont know it

weather and sales?

Aside from the obvious issues (snow storms and other driving hazards), I think the weather affects my sales. It's been cloudy for 3 days and I've had 3 days of pissy people.

September and October were fairly warm and sunny out my way and I hit new personal records. The store didn't do bad either.

I want more sun...

I love all the idiots that walk through this mall...

So I just had some guy walk by our kiosk (there are three of us working). He had a bunch of tattoos, piercings, and had his ears stretched out so far that you could literally put a soda can through them without touching them.

He freaked out and demanded that we apologize to him because he thought we were staring at him. I told him I refused to apologize because we hadn't done anything wrong. He continued to flip out and swear at us for a while and eventually my manager apologized.

The guy's still walking around the mall and keeps trying to stare us down every time he walks by. I just stare back at him each time and laugh, but I think he is under the impression that he's really tough or something. It's kinda funny. I wish I had se...

Things not to do while speaking with a store rep

I've compiled a pretty good list from customers I've had over the last year and a half.

Please don't:

*Eat sour cream and onion potato chips while standing at the counter and then breathe all over me (where's that barfing emoticon when you need it)

*Scratch your nether regions (guys -and- girls, I'm sad to say)

*Answer a call and then proceed to talk loudly while I am trying to ask you questions about your account

*Try to pick up girls who are innocently walking by, and then talk about all the nasty ways you would f*** them like I'm not standing there (I'm not a prude but jeeze, have a little tact)

*Try to lean all the way over my counter to see the screen. Please don't try to violate the four feet of personal space this P...

authorized dealer?

what does it take to start up an authorized dealer store?

A few of my coworkers are really tired of the crap we deal with here, and may possibly be part of the famous five thousand. We wanted to know exactly what is necessary to sell multiple carriers, what do we need to do? (there is a prime location, with no major carrier cell store within a 2.5 mile radius.)

Customers who don't take photocopies of their rebate information really drive me nuts! We even make photocopies for these customers now, and we're still getting yelled at. Just had a customer who only got one of her two rebate checks. When we checked the status, it says that she did not send the UPC label...well she says "it's not on the box, so I must have sent it!" Did you make a photocopy "NO!" Then why are you yelling at me? She said over and over again that this has happened to her before....well then............why didn't you take photocopies????????????? 👿 We're not here to screw you out of your rebates, you're doing a good job of that yourself!

I sometimes wish VZW would go to an instant rebate program. Allow us indir...
