BB Data
Dec 24, 2007, 12:29 AM
in the Verizon forum

Hi everyone, I know this has been discussed before, but I just wanted to confirm: When you have a BB device, you MUST purchase a monthly data plan, even if you decide not to use it for e-mail. Like if you get the Pearl just for the "dazzle" of owning a BB, you still need to get the data plan right? A friend of mine is trying to convince me that he can get a BB device on T-Mobile ...

Hey Wireless Buddy, this is somewhat off the current topic, but other than the extra apps available for Windows Mobile, what are the benefits that you see of having it? I was given a T-Mobile Dash with WM6 on it from my company and the thing is so slow and has a tendency to crash. I've asked my employer if I can get the BB Curve and they are going to see if they can do it. But basically, ...

sic5770 said: the EDGE network is faster than EVDO Yeah right. My company gave me a pda that only has EDGE capability. I miss VZW's high speed EVDO so much - EDGE IS IN NO WAY FASTER THAT EVDO AT ALL. If you really think that's true, then you really have no idea what you're talking about.

But if it was a "hack" (which is technically illegal I'm assuming), why did t-mobile turn it back on? Don't they have every right to turn it off?

Dash shutting off

in the HTC Dash / S620 / S621 (Excalibur) forum

Hi everyone, I've been having a problem for the last few days. While using IE, the phone will just turn itself off without warning. Then after turning it back on, the battery level will decrease by one bar. This happened twice today. The battery had two bars, it shut off, I powered it on, then it had 1 bar. It shut off a second time, then after it came back on, it went down to ...

in the T-Mobile forum

Hi everyone, I may be getting a T-Mobile device tomorrow or later this week from my employer. From what I understand, it will be either a BlackBerry Curve or a Dash. We use Microsoft Outlook/Exchange for e-mail, so I'm not sure which device it would be (aren't the two using completely different devices/servers?) Anyway, I'm not sure if I exactly have a choice in this matter, but if I do, should I request the Curve or the Dash and ...

I'm also curious, how do you transfer, for example, a picture or MP3 from the VX-9900/enV to another phone? Mine only gives me the option to transfer a vcard (or something similar). I know how to transfer things from a laptop directly onto the filesystem, but how do you "properly" transfer the file through bluetooth from one phone to another using bluetooth? When someone tries to send me a file, it says 'sending failed.' Thanks

From what I understand, when you send a txt to multiple people, if they are all on VZW and all receive the message, then it will have a checkmark. If you send an individual txt to a non-VZW phone, it will just have a sent arrow. However, if you sent a txt message to multiple recipients - some that are VZW and some non-VZW, the message to non-VZW devices will be marked as INCOMPLETE (hence the "I"). Hope ...

Detroit313, How is the phone "too much" for you? If you said it's one of the best phones you've used, then why are you giving it up? I was really considering getting the i760 (or the XV6800 when it comes out), but is it too much "maintenance" or "upkeep" rather than a standard phone or something??? I'm interested to know before I get one of them. Thanks.

Re: late voice mails what is the cause?

I actually had this problem - where calls would go directly to VM even though the phone was on. This used to happen when I had my old T720 some years ago. Basically, I had to call CS and they said that there were some settings that were incorrect on my account, which were forwarding all calls directly to VM instead of delivering them to the handset. Once they made the changes and did a refresh ...

Sending faxes
Nov 1, 2007, 1:44 AM

Hey everyone, a friend of me was asking about something that she remember from a while ago - VZW somehow (through the voicemail system) allowed you to send faxes to your cell phone. I completely forgot about this, but I actually do remember hearing something in the automated greeting similar to: "...To send a fax, press "7" (or some other number). I've always wondered, how exactly was this possible to send a fax to a cell phone. ...

Can someone explain to me, what exactly does it mean when a phone is "locked"? From what I understand, this means that a phone can only be used on a particular carrier (like Sprint). But if it is locked to only work on Sprint, then: 1. How is it possible for Sprint phones to use Verizon's service in roaming areas? 2. if Verizon's phones aren't locked, then why can't we take a VZW phone like the enV and ...

Ah wow - good information! Thanks! Also, since you're from the Chicago area, whenever someone calls you, does your bill display your phone's location as "Summit, IL"? Whenever I travel to the Chicago area, it either says "Summit, IL" or something like "ChicagoZonex" However, I'm always on the north side - never on the south. Does that indicate the tower location that I was connected to or the Mobile Telephone Switching Office? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I just started having a problem with my phone. Basically, you can hear the power-on/power-off sound (with the animation), but nothing else can be heard. If you place a call, you can't hear anything, if I try to simply press some buttons (while the phone is idle), you still can't hear anything and when you try to play a song, still nothing. I tried to activate speakerphone also, but the button now does absolutely nothing. ...

Wow that actually makes it sound a lot clearer and a much better deal. Do you also know how the use of the Mobile E-mail application will be affected? If I use the e-mail function in Mobile Web, that'd probably just count towards using Mobile Web pages (which for 100 pages will come out to 1.99/mo). But how would Mobile Email get charged? Thanks!

Ah ok. Thanks for the help. One more question though, if VZW either built into or acquired a tower, then would their name be on the tower still? Or would it be the name of the company that they acquired it from? (similar to how in Illinois, Illinois Bell is still the legal name of the landline company even though it's d/b/a AT&T Illinois)? thanks!

Hey Wombough, thanks for the reply. When you mean native, do you mean like the handset would display Verizon Wireless? I'm currently in the Chicago area, so I do have access to Verizon in both the Voice and 3G network. But if Verizon shared a cell tower with Sprint, for example, wouldn't that cause any interference with the two signals - since both are CDMA and using 800/1900 signals? Thanks!

Hey everyone, I was trying to see how close I am to a Verizon cellular tower. I was checking on cellreception.com and I found towers for US Cellular, Sprint, Cingular and T-mobile. However, I couldn't find any VZW towers but did find some other companies towers in the area. Does anyone know if a third-party company actually owns the towers/antennas? If so, what company actually hosts VZW's wireless signal? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I was wondering how those of you that work at VZW like it. For those of you that work in the Call Center, how many years of customer service experience did you have before being hired at VZW? Also, would you say that the job is difficult or is it fairly standard/straight-forward? Or if any of you work in the IT or Network department, how are the working conditions? Does VZW train you well ...

I have the enV and typically use mobile web for e-mail or browsing news stories. I also use the Mobile E-mail application. So far, I'm on the 1400 minute plan and never have a problem with minutes being deducted. Will these new plans then be more expensive to use Mobile Web and all (considering monthly fees)? Or will it actually be cheaper in the long term?

Just out of curiosity, do you think if VZW offered to purchase Sprint, they would take the offer? And second, do you think it would be approved by the government?

Wow that's really something! From everything I've read here, I thought that this was for sure - that VZW was going to LTE. However, UMB is still clearly better (based on what I've read so far). Perhaps they could develop a technology that works on both LTE/UMB networks?

Hey everyone, I was just curious, does anyone know what the name of the song is that plays on VZW's "next" website? I tried to ID it using VCastSong ID, but it didn't turn up any results. The song's not bad; I wonder if they'll be using this for TV promos for the new phones?

I also commend Verizon for taking a stand. The network belongs to them and they have the right to block any groups that they feel will be controversial. Additionally, VZW has the right to restrict access to anyone who they feel may use it in a way that would cause them to be liable. They don't block everything, but since this is a controversial topic and messages will communicate across their network, I agree that it's ...

Hey thanks for the reply, but I'm just curious by what you mean by "this investment won’t materialize for Verizon but will for Vodafone as Voda is a very good company. If I was Voda, I would get rid of their stake in Verizon Wireless." Why do you think it won't be a good investment for VZW, and why do you feel that VZW isn't a good company for Vodafone?

yeah. I guess that does make sense. It's just hard to see a network with almost 300 Mbps not be used when it's in the direct path of the current technology.

I'm still just curious as to why Vodafone didn't make the move to UMB instead of forcing VZW to move to LTE. I'm sure that if those two large carriers changed their technology, it would create a major change in the industry.

Re: Which car mount to use?

in the LG enV VX-9900 forum

I actually use the one that VZW sells - it's in VZW packaging and it's a universal one (but it just says Arkon on it). It's has a suction cup to attach to the windshield. Only problem is that the connection between the suction cup's "arm" and the piece that actually holds the phone is not that great (the connection part) and so sometimes the phone will be tilted and will wobble from side to side.
