It still wont work on Verizon because the phone isnt in their database. It would come up as non E911 compliant an not go through the system.

when Verizon orders the phones from the manufacturer the model# and all the info associated with the model are loaded into the system, including the gps availability. This is used to determine if a phone has 911 gps when we enter it to activate it. Sprint phones would have never been loaded.

Plus format is different. If so, just voice will only work. Haven't looked at the link, but I'm curious to see, when I head home.

the fact that it may not work on verizon is true and not true at the same time. the phone will not be necessarily network compatible but will activate. I unfortunately use eROES and tried activating a sprint v3m and it showed on customer's account but since they dont do *228 and manual programming is different then i could not activate it. but the correct esn and model showed up on customers account

Now all it will take is someone to class action sue Verizon, and then their phones will be unlocked as well...

Verizon Wireless phones arent locked, and someone already did a class action lawsuit against Verizon Wireless for the same thing. Because the stupid judge wouldnt throw the case out VZW just paid to make it go away as it was cheaper than paying to go to court over it to prove that the phones arent locked..

Just another reason why our legal system is retarded.

Can someone explain to me, what exactly does it mean when a phone is "locked"?

From what I understand, this means that a phone can only be used on a particular carrier (like Sprint). But if it is locked to only work on Sprint, then:

1. How is it possible for Sprint phones to use Verizon's service in roaming areas?

2. if Verizon's phones aren't locked, then why can't we take a VZW phone like the enV and use it successfully on another carrier like Alltel?

Also, (I realize this is probably the wrong forum for this), but a friend of mine tried to use a Boost Mobile phone on Nextel and it was asking for some code. I'm assuming that this means the phone is locked then:

3. are iDen phones are locked phones?

4. What about GS...

They use the same type of network, tht's why it can roam. gsm and/or iden will not roam on cdma network.

Since sprint, alltell, and verizon use esn of the phone as there "activator" (for a lack of a better word) the esn is not each others database.

It just needs the activation code.
