So in YOUR (wiwavelengths) perfect world what would the wireless industry look like? A single giant company that stretches from shore to shore and does nothing but sell a data connection. Its ran by the government so access is rolled into your taxes. When shopping for a device you only go to the manufacturer for a selection of compatible devices? --OR-- A lot of small carriers limited to a population limit so no one carrier has advantages over another carrier where ...

Android is "Open" because you can download 3rd party software that is not found in Googles app store... but by side loading these "open" applications you can get malicious code. So the only way to prevent getting "infected" software is by using the Google Market thus creating an even smaller store than what iOS offers. So my question is this; How is Android more open when you are cant even use the main "advantage" over iOS?

Blackberry OS 6 isnt based of QNX! its the same ol OS with an updated communication bar, (more) touch friendly interface and switches to Apples open source WebKit browser instead of the god forbidden browser RIM used in previous OS releases. using roads is a bad metaphor, roads are paid for by taxes in gasoline/diesel. In theory the more you drive the more you damage the roads, BUT the more you drive the more gas you purchase so the ends justifies the means. The problem occurs when cars get continuously better gas mileage (forced by the government) and the taxes don't go up to adjust for the decreased fuel purchases.

Carrier "sort-by" suggestions
Nov 19, 2010, 11:58 AM
in the phonescoop.com forum

When you are looking at the list of devices for the Carriers you can sort by "technology" when you this option is selected it should split it by the different types within the same technology. what i mean is when looking under WCDMA it should be split by WCDMA/HSDPA/HSPA/HSPA+ or CDMA, REV.0 devices/REV.A/REV.B Since the majority of devices are either 2G or 3G now I think this will offer even better categorizing among seemingly like devices

5Mb a second is not "4g" speeds. It's a marketing ploy so they dont have to tell customers "We spent billions of dollars to upgrade our network so its now 1.5x faster than previously possible" the true definition of 4G speed is 100Mb in a urban setting and 1000Mb in a rural setting. according to the ITU (International Telecommunication Union).

Everyone everywhere HATES Symbian... It's not user friendly, it causes any device to have horrible battery life (because of the multitasking). For example, I had the N75, because at the time it was "amazing", unfortunately after about 10 minutes of web browsing(or youtube) it would say low memory and I would have to completely power-cycle the device to get the darn thing to want to keep Surfing. Other devices i have read that issue on; 5800, N95, e71, e71x, ...

Nokia sells most of its phones for less than $100(USD). Nokia dominates the "emerging markets" which include Africa and Asia. Nokia can sell phones for dirt cheep prices because it owns ~800 GSM related patents so it doesn't have to pay royalties and owns the majority of its manufacturing plants. Nokia's N series is being destroyed by (for lack of a better word) comparable iPhone and Android handsets.

i doubt it will make it that much more expensive. the hardware itself is only $30 for the sensor... that's not including the discount for buying in bulk. A perfect example is the camera sensor in the iPhone4 costs ~$14. A manufacturer would be able to hike the price up ridiculously for a small investment per device. the only thing holding these back is the software and picture compression on the device side.

Customers go after the carriers because the carriers are the ones that approve the devices quality for the customers. When you buy a TV from Best Buy you take it back to Best Buy while its under warranty. If you buy an Apple Computer you take it to Apple. If the carriers didnt want to deal with customers having issues with their handsets then they shouldn't sell phones or they should raise quality control.
