Camera Upgrade

Just came off the phone with a samsung representative...she said that if (ever) verizon decides to ship out the camera version the existing (non-camera) version will be able to be upgraded. I asked again If it's true and I don't have to buy a new phone and she said yes, only an upgrade.

Hope she's right.

Does anyone else think that this is a TERRIBLE Phone?

Its a great PDA but the phone is terrible. Can't adjust the backlight that goes out to soon. PHONE KEEPS TURNING OFF........ARRRGGGGHHH!!!!! 👿 Cant tell if I've had a "missed call" unless I happen to check call history. Speed dial doesn't work properly. Can't insert a 'Pause' into my saved numbers. Completely awkward to talk into, although THAT I was expecting. Side buttons keep activating recorder and Volume, every time I try to hold it as a phone. Disabled RECORD button. No option to disable Volume toggle. No ringer IDs. What the h*ll? Its like Samsung didn't even design the phone portion of this. They left out options that they normally include on all their other phones.

Was I a fool to think this would be a go...

Memory Problem

I have had my i730 since Friday. The phone work great for the most part. Overall, I am still very happy with my purchase. I have crashed the machine already. I was checking out all the different programs and tabs. Suddenly the entire system froze up. I had to remove the battery and restart the machine. I could not understand why the machine froze up. I checked with a friend of mine how has T-Mobile's Pocket PC 2003. He advised that I should check my running programs under the memory tab. When I open this tap, I found 4 to 5 programs still running that I thought I had exit out. I have now been checking this tab regularly and still notice that many program are not shutting down when I exit them. Is anyone else having a similar probl...

The I730 should have been delayed longer

I stated a few days back the PDA portion of the I730 was great!!! When it came to the actual phone operation, it was horrible.Any consumer would think Samsung and Verizon would make a great phone and possible an OK PDA. This is not the case they spent to much time developing a PDA and forgot about what they know best phones. The layout of the buttons suck!!!!, I kept trying to get 3 way calls going (for business) and i kept dropping all the lines, the speaker is pitiful!!!! the contact list is hard to dial from, the speaker sound goes in and out, having "stereo" internal speakers you would think the volume would be loud its not, the sound is muffled. Not too mention the inferior WI-FI system.
I overall was very disappointed with the Samsu...

GPS

I was enquiring about the GPS capabilities on the i730 and installing something like CoPilot Pocket PC. According to the Samsung site:

"The built-in GPS feature of the phone supports Emergency 911 only. This is so that in case of emergency, you can be located by emergency services. There is no support for the use of 3rd party GPS devices at this time, nor do we have information about future development in this area."

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get around this?

Thanks

Remote Control

Here's an interesting question. I tried to make the remote control feature 'learn' my garage remote, but it didn't work. It works great for the TV remotes and so on. Are the garage remotes a different type of signal that can't be learned?

I think it would be cool to open your garage from a cell phone. Perfect for those days that you lock yourself out.

Worth it?

So I have posted here a couple of times trying to entice those of you who have the phone to help me decide to get it or not. No responses to any of my posts, so I'll try one more time.

I am really torn--I am a hardcore Pocket PC user and am also very hard on my phones. I don't have a land line, so this would be it.

From what you have seen in the past weeks that you have had this phone are the phone frustrations enough to make you wish that you had something else?

I've been reading about how terrible the phone features are--is this normal on a device that has both a PDA and a phone? I also would be using this as my MP3 player--at least that's how I have used my PPC in the past.

Any ideas/suggestions would really help. You...

What is up with disabling the Laptop modem functionality???

😳

According to Cnet's review it says you can't use this phone as a modem on either EV-DO or WiFi. Anyone proven otherwise?

That is one of the main reasons I would buy this phone and its super fast EVDO network. Why the heck would they disable this feature???

To me that makes it much less useful. Doesn't the Audiovox 6600 allow modem usage??

Thanks,

Dan

Has anyone experienced any side-to-side play with the phone?

When I first got the phone, I thought it was defective because there was a little side-to-side movement. It almost feels like the top part of the phone is not on the sliding mechanism properly - like it's loose. Verizon and Samsung both stated that this is normal, and that it should not pose any long-term problems. Overall, the phone is everything I expected.

Any comments?

Caller ID Headset

Anyone have a favorite BT headset with caller ID? I am looking at either the Sony or the newer Jabra device. I like the feature of being able to have the Jabra ring or work on vibrate mode. Any opinions?

Got mine today from a retail outlet!!!

Went to the Verizon kiosk at the mall to ask if they knew if they would have the phone available there on Thurs (July 7th). The manager said 'yes...in fact, I'll sell you one today if you'd like.' YIKES.... what a surprise! So packaged up that baby and took it home. Got the i700 car charger which is suppose to work, and a universal pouch (there were two types, and one fit better then the standard black leather kind). Just afraid of dropping the thing now is the only reason to put it in a pouch..it looks too good to hide it!

Hope that all the other windows PDA pitfalls don't happen with this device. Did find out that while EVDO is available in the Seattle area, I live too far to get the reception at my home. It did work at the store though...
