My impressions....and a couple?'s

First off im new to the whole PDA/phone combo, after having the TREO 650 for a week and the 730 for 2 or 3 days... there is no comparison. Why pay 44 dollars a month for unlimited National Access (dial speed) when i can pay the same price and get EVDO and actually get some useful browsing out of this thing. Treo 650 no clip, 1 battery, no EVDO, no included voice dialing, 1 stylus. Not dogging the Treo though because if i wouldnt have saw the 730 i would have loved it. I also like the familiar Windows look to the Samsung, little more like using my laptop than a phone.Treo did have nice Sync software included with it though. I now have a couple of ?'s

1. How do i get the ringer volume higher(i realize there is a sliding volume bar) i cant e...

Backlight During Call

When I make a phone call the backlight turns off too quickly. Is there a setting to keep it on for 20 seconds or so?

My first PDA

Ok I have patiently waited for the arrival of my i730. Love it now that I am figuring it out.

Couple questions?

Can I download MP3 right from IE on the phone?
If so any ideas on good wap sites?

Do I need to worry about viruses and hacks?

Good wap site directories?

Is Bluetooth just for networking purposes? What are the benefits? I have not used it?

Is there any good sites to learn about all this techno stuff I am uncertain about? Like acvtive sync, blue tooth and all that?

TIA,

SCH-M4300 (Korean version of SCH-i730)

I found some pictures for the SCH-M4300, the i730 that they sell in Korea.
They have pretty much the same features that we get, other than the M4300 has a 1.3MP camera.

One another difference is obviously the keypad. Koreans use the regular num-keypad -- Samsung developed a brilliant system that enabled rather complex combinations of Korean characters to be i...

Bluetooth and BMW

Here is what BWM North America said about this phone syncing.

Hopefully, Verizon will come our with a software update or something so the phonebooks will work properly!!

"Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 200
BMW 330i. That is a great model and we hope it will serve you well.

Unfortunately, Palm One Treo 650 and the Samsung i730 are not and
probably never will be compatible with the BMW Bluetooth system in your
vehicle. The BMW Bluetooth system uses the standard BT Hands-free Profile
(HFP 1.0) with additional commands implemented on top of the BT standard
to transfer phonebook data from the phone to the car. This enables the
user to access their phonebook and dial from the vehicle's

EVDO ROCKS!!!

Well for the first time last night I actually was in an area where there's EVDO Coverage.

All I can say is HOLY SMOKES BATMAN...it's nearly as fast as my dang cable modem!

C'mon Verizon...get this rolled out to more areas! (Preferrably Allentown, PA next 😎 😎 😎 😎 )

False Advertising, Misleading or what?

I went to my local Verizon store to buy this phone yesterday and they said we have to order it or that I could order it myself from their website. What? 😳 That is not what their website says. Unless I missed something the website specifically states "Available in Stores July 7th". It did not say that the demos are only available in stores for trial. I went to 4 different stores trying to buy the phone and eventually talked to one guy who stated "that is the way Verizon is currently selling them". Verizon could have made it more clear stating this on their website. If they did it must be in fine print somewhere.

Upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0?

Does anyone know if this phone would be upgradeable with Windows Mobile 5.0 when it's available? And, even if it can be upgraded, would there be any compatibility issues to worry about?

i730 is Kinda Shaky

The two halves of the phone have some play (side-to-side) along the sliding mechanism. When I use the phone to dial, press a button, etc., the phone moves as if it's not firm along the slider. It's somewhat annoying, but I was diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder! It could be just me.

Blue tooth headset and voice dialing ?

I have a few concerns about the blue tooth 1.1 versus blue tooth 1.2 is this a software upgrade or a physical configuration can the phone be made to work with the Jabra BT880 headset With caller ID 😕
which brings up my second question
in trying some of the phones with voice recognition the phone would use its own voice to try and recognize what was typed in the contact list and the names were not always recognizable has anybody had a chance to try the voice dialing with the blue tooth headset and how easy was that

Very Disappointed

I've been trying to use this phone as much as possible today and, to be frank, I am very disappointed. Among the many reasons I chose to wait for this phone was enhancing my driving safety. Well, without the tactile feel of buttons (especially when entering passwords to get access to my company's voice-mail) and without reliable voice recognition, I found myself far more distracted from my driving than I was with my standard phone. At one point I thought I would enhance my driving safety by using the speaker-phone, but that too was a challenge given the design of the speaker-phone button.

I will give this phone a couple of more days of use, but I am begining to think that for now, using a PDA phone while driving is too risky for me.

Wireless Sync

I am a little confused with the wireless sync from Verizon.

We use an Exchange Server at work and I will most likely sync with that. I won't be doing that, though until September. Can I set up the Verizon wireless sync and then change it once I want to sync with the Exchange, or once I set it up through Verizon's web site, am I stuck?

I don't really get the Verizon wireless sync thing. When I used a PPC, I just used Activesync to sync both at work and at home. What is the deal with the Verizon Wireless Sync?

i730 memory and battery life

Does snyone know if you loose your data each time the batty dies or does it keep all of your data even with a dead or changed battery like the Treo 650? Also does anyone have any experience with the battery life on the i730?
I am trying to decide between the i730 and the Treo 650. Any help would be much appreciated.Thanks.
