WOW it has OBEX

ON page 148 and 149 of the user manual it states the I730 supports the following profiles
SDAP service discovery application profile, FTP file transfer profile,
GAP generic access profile,
HFP hands free profile
HSP headset profile,
HID human interface device profile(bluetooth keyboard only)
OBEX object exchange profile
OPP object push profile,
SPP serial port profile,
and activesync using SPP

I never thought I'd see a veizon phone with a full feature set for BT

I might have to buy this now

Not ready for prime time

Been lurking at pdaphonehome.com, reading all the links, and clearly there are some very annoying things about this "phone" that will make it maddening for folks like me that want the convenience of actually using a device as a phone. Like the fact that you need the stylus to put the phone into vibrate mode...sorry folks, that's ridiculous. There are several other no-brainer items like that.....but hey, if you're looking for a PDA first, then I guess those don't matter. Someone like me though, I want a PHONE that's easy to use as well, and this just doesn't cut it.

Go over to the other forum and read all the recent gripes. Maybe they'll work themselves out eventually.

Samsung Website Links

Hey guess what I noticed that the samsung website now lists the I730. More importantly it lists a wonderful USB cable that "The USB Cable provides the ability to connect your Samsung phone to your computer in which the Samsung phone becomes an external modem to allow you to dial up to the internet to access the web, email etc." Oh hell yea it is time to use it as a modem LOL

Samsung SCH-i730 Manual from VZW

I got my phone today and was checking out the CD they sent with the phone. The manual is actually a part of their website and not on the CD. Follow the link below to see all of the features on this awesome phone - directly from Verizon.

i730 better than xv6600, messaging as data not text?

i have two questions. i was wondering why one might prefer the i730 over the xv6600. the xv6600 has a camera while the i730 does not, and i read that the xv6600 can also be used as a laptop modem, while the i730 can not. i did also read however that the xv6600 crashes a lot. i dont really care too much about the first two pros of the xv6600, and i definitely don't want to deal with a constantly crashing PDA-phone. any thoughts on that from you new i730 owners?
also, can you use the unlimited data package and access the internet to chat on AIMexpress and MSN webmessenger, so the messages are sent as data, as opposed to text messages? that would be nice...

If you are an existing consumer customer you can get this now.

I am not joking. I just ordered mine and I am a consumer customer. If you dont believe me go to your account online, go to account maintance, and click upgrade phone. It is listed there. So I called customer service and they said yes you can order it today and I explained I also have it on my upgrade online now thing. Well guess what it is being shipped express today to get here tomorrow baby!!!

Whoever ordered today, does it automatically ship overnight

Just like many of you I ordered mine up today from verizon site for consumers. Did not see any options for shipping, and in the fine print I saw "2-5 business days". Did anybody order from the site before, do they ship overnight? I was a sprint customer a while ago, and all their orders were always overnight I think. Anyway, just don't feel like calling in about the order and having them go "oops, the release date is July 7th, so we'll have to stop this order".

i730 VoiceSignal Bug Found (Major)

Well, looks like I found a bug in the i730. You know, I really need to start my own Q&A business because every new software or hardware product that comes out, I find problems with. What really gets my goat on this one is that this phone has been in testing with Verizon for five months and I find a bug in one day! Come on guys! Shesh.

The bug has to do with VoiceSignal, the voice activated dialing and application launcher. My first phone simply wouldn't even run the program, crashing upon opening, and I suspect that in fact, the phone itself is fine but succumbed to the bug I found. When I deactivated the Contacts database import, everything on the VoiceSignal worked but name dial. When I did a manual import, it would start and the...

NO PHONE/WI-FI AT SAME TIME!

☚ī¸

I was waiting for this phone forever. It seemed to be the perfect blend of PDA, phone, fast internet browsing. -- I just ordered it yesterday - delivery on Monday.

Now, I discovered that Wi-Fi and the phone networks (voice, CDMA 1X, and EV-DO) CANNOT BE ON AT THE SAME TIME!! You have to turn one off to use the other. So if you're surfing with Wi-Fi you can't receive phone calls!!!!

Is that the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard??!?!?!?!?!?! My RAZR can surf the net and get calls!

What a shame! ☚ī¸

As soon as the 15 days are up, unless there's a hack that's been developed, I'm returning it. What an absolutely crock, crime, travesty.

It's supposed to be a "Phone/Internet" device. Well, here in Minneapolis where...

Thanks and CAN'T WAIT!!

I have been lurking on this board for months waiting for this phone to come out! Unfortunately, I am one of the lucky ones that has to wait until July 7th to get my hands on it--despite my stalking the Verizon Rep!

Many of you mentioned that typically a camera version comes out shortly after the non-camera version. Any concept of what "shortly" means? Do they usually do it the next month or are we talking Fall? I am trying to decide just how long I want to wait.

I also want to thank those that post on this board. You have been a tremendous help as I have been looking to replace a stolen PPC. I am a little nervous of going with the PPC/phone combo as it seems like it will take some getting used to, but I'm gonna try. I have used ...

i730 Specs

Can someone help me out?

I need a PDA for school. If I am going to spend the money, why not get one with a phone? The Samsung i730 has everything I need, however, my school has some minimum specifications that I don't know what these are:

1) A Type II Compact-Flash (CF) Card Slot for expandibility

2) The Wi-Fi must be with "128bit WEP"

What are these & does anyone know if this phone has them?

Thanks!

P.S. I will wait until July to see if the camera version comes out.

Verizon must not be the brightest bulb on the tree.

Ooooooooooook.
So let me get this straight.
They piss off thousands of Bluetooth users by disabling the majority of profiles on the Treo 650 (which, by the way, the box claims to support File Transfer and one other profile, can't remember which...) phone as well as the v710...

Then they release a phone that's WiFi capable?

And to top it all off... this phone will be Bluetooth crippled as well...

These people must have complete idiots working for them...

I've been a Verizon customer for a long time, but ever since I started getting into their higher end phones, I'm considering switching to Cingular.

my impresion on samsung 730 demo

today I got to play with the I730 and I think it has a very sexy look, It's compact for a pocket PC, the slider exposes a very easy to type qwerty keyboard. couldn't experience the broadband speed because there isn't any in Queens N.Y yet. There isn't any camera but the next version will definetly carry one in the back. I still think the price is very high for $599.99 in a two year contract. way much better than audiovox harrier, I'll probably stick with treo 650 better for functionality and price.

EV-Do

Sorry, I am not very technologically savvy, but am trying to be an educated consumer before my purchase. 😁

What is EV-Do? How does it work?
