Celebrating The Wireless Revolution

Thank goodness for competition! I'm so glad to be living in an age where there are choices for the consumer with regards to telephone service. Although I still consider myself a young person, I can well remember a time in the not-so-distant past when you had no choices in telephone service. Telephones came in only one color- black, and if you decided to hook up an answering machine to it, the phone company would threaten to cut off your service. Not to mention countless, frustrating hours on the phone talking to customer service, who could care less about you or your problem. Expensive, confusing bills and whopping long-distance charges. Glad those 'good old days' are long gone. Now, if Ma Bell wants your business, she has to get in line beh...

NEXTEL. Done (in by Sprint)

NEXTEL. Done In.

The results are in: Sprint-Nextel added a paltry 210,000 new subscribers in Q2 while Cing added 1,5000,000 and Verizon added 1,800,000. Not to mention churn. A few excerpts from yesterday's financial news. Sad, very sad.

from Reuters (go to pg 2 of online article):
Analysts said Sprint is also being hurt by a confusing marketing message due to its use of two brands, Nextel and Sprint, after its 2005 purchase of Nextel. The Nextel service mainly supports business customers while Sprint's original network mainly serves consumers.

Hybrid Phone/Deposit

Ok, I went to Sprint today to get a new phone. I have had Nextel for 4 years and I am fed up with the horrible data and text messaging. They told me that I would have to pay $150 deposit and I thought that was ridiculous since I have 3 phones on my NXTL account and they are the SAME company now. I don't care if you use different billing for now!

So my question is... I am going to wait and get the Hybrid phone when it comes out. Does anyone know who will be offering it? Sprint and Nextel or just Sprint? If Nextel offers the phone then I can just upgrade and not have to pay a deposit.... but I guesse if Sprint only sells the phone then I will have to pay a deposit.

Thanks!

Nextel to Sprint

I have a Nextel phone under my dad's plan for his business and I was wondering if I could get a Sprint phone. I'm not exactly sure what his plan is but I know he needs 35 phones and if I switch to another carrier he would be losing money. So my question is can I turn in my Nextel phone for a Sprint phone? I have a 870 and it's just too big and not for me.

i760 vs. i850 vs. i560

Hello all...I'm going to buy one of the above phones to upgrade from my i530. I don't care if it has a camera or not and screen size really doesn't matter to me either. (Just having a color screen at all would be nice!) I thought I would see if there is anyone who has used either of these phones and noticed any difference in reception, since the only real difference is that the i850 has a camera. If there is a difference, I'm going to get the one that's better. I bought an i730 not long ago to replace my i530. Well, I had reception problems with that i730 from day one, and recently, the PTT button stopped working. That phone is a real piece... So, I'm back on my i530, which I love, but it's just time for an upgrade. If anyone knows ...

Nextel Partners question

I'm currently a Nextel customer but fall under that "Nextel Partners" group (West TX market). I was told I could switch Sprint without any term fee (Sprint has better coverage across Texas but in the area I live in Nextel has better reception so it's a toss up and my contract is up Aug '07) but will Nextel have any plans comparable to what I have now? I currently have a Nationwide 400 + 600 for $39.99 but Sprint's closest is a local or region plan but there's roaming close to the city where I live. What are my best options? Stay and hope for better plans from Sprint or consider one of those dual phones? I would like to keep the Nextel phone but services like txt, web, picture messaging and phone pricing is better with Sprint than with ...

I've filed an FCC Complaint against Nextel

DISPUTE #: 06-W11988668

I have had Nextel since May 2005, at that time I lived in Elizabeth, NJ - where coverage for Nextel was sub-par. In December 2005, I moved to Scotch Plains, NJ with my fiance, who also has (had) Nextel. After moving, our service was poor and we would only get 1 bar in our area and would have to walk outside and across the street to use our phone. However, Nextel said that our specific area was Covered by them. After contacting Nextel and being strung along with promises of expanded coverage - We were fed up.

For four months we waited for "expanded coverage", and none came. I was paying $180 a month for me and my fiance's lines. On July 3rd, 2006 - I needed to make a phone call, and I kept receiving "The ...

motorolla ic502 hybrid tel from sprint nextel

after my continual calling to nextel, i was finally offered a pair of brand new ic502 hybrid tels to stave off my request to terminate my 10 years of nextel service. it only took them 2.5 weeks to activate the tels, after i spent more than 15 hrs on the tel with everyone they coul transfer me to at sprint, nextel, and even motorolla. apparently, living in the test market for these new technology tels, made it a solution that appeared viable to salvage a customer.
i will assure you that the initial hassel of even activation of these tels will be most frustrating. i finally reached the eceutive offices of sprint and got a hi level contact involved to just get info. now, i have the 2 tels online, and they appear to work much better than my old...

Unlimited ringtones, wallpapers, games, etc... ??

I visited this website ( www.mototones.com ) which said you can get Unlimited ringtones, wallpapers, games, etc... for only $30. Has anybody dealt with this company, or know of others that offer such a service. Is it probably just a big rip-off?

Public safety PTT on GSM?

An RCR News article had this quote:

"Ericsson demonstrated how, using off-the-shelf technologies, public safety could have access to live video, push-to-talk services, building plans and other features simultaneously."

Anybody know anything about Ericsson's GSM PTT demo?

Nextel Data...????

I'm thinkin bout getting a Boost i875..which seems to be a really good phone, however, I'm rather worried about Nextel's Network. Voice and PTT are fine, but data? One of my friend's has Nextel, and he gets my text messages like, 4 or 5 hours AFTER I send them. Why would that be? I text a lot...and that much of a delay would not work...
Please let me know what you think..?
