after my continual calling to nextel, i was finally offered a pair of brand new ic502 hybrid tels to stave off my request to terminate my 10 years of nextel service. it only took them 2.5 weeks to activate the tels, after i spent more than 15 hrs on the tel with everyone they coul transfer me to at sprint, nextel, and even motorolla. apparently, living in the test market for these new technology tels, made it a solution that appeared viable to salvage a customer.
i will assure you that the initial hassel of even activation of these tels will be most frustrating. i finally reached the eceutive offices of sprint and got a hi level contact involved to just get info. now, i have the 2 tels online, and they appear to work much better than my old...

Just checked, they use the mini USB charger which most Sprint Nextel stores should carry!

i have visited 3 stores, they dont have it, and 2 never even knew of this tel. motorolla direct, and idenstore.com has nothing. i am waiting on a call back from sprint/nextel executive offices to determine what i am going to do now....
other concerns are that the tel lacks some basic functions such as a ringer that you can actually hear in a louder environment or while driving with your stereo on normal volume (unlike my old nextels)the speaker on button disappears so fast that it makes it very difficult to use the tel handsfree without going through a multi button pressing process, i lost all my old voice mails that did not carry over to new tel. my second tel can now not upload its addressbook, although the first tel was able to do thi...

The mini-USB charger is a common device, not exclusive to this or any other telephone. Definitely check the spec's on the phone to be certain, but I believe most USB-compatible devices are all 5V DC, and the USB standard will charge any of them.

My T-Mobile BlackBerry has a cable that is mini-USB on one end, regular USB on the other; it can plug into the USB port of a computer and charge the phone, or into the wall charger from BlackBerry. The wall charger has the standard two-prong AC plug on one end, a standard USB port on the other, so I use the same cable to charge the BB, either plugging it into my PC or into the wall charger. Also, this regular USB-to-mini-USB cable is the same one our Sony camera uses to connect from camera to PC. ...

to reply, the chargers are apparently not the same, according to the last engineer i spoke with. not sure what the diff is, but hope to learn soon.
over the past months, my nextel service has become worse and worse, so much so, that i was ready to give them the boot, and, thats when they sent me the i-850's, which i used for 25-30 days and were just as bad as my i-870's.
when i totally had it, i called to termiate, and they sent me to client retention, who offered to send me the ic502's claiming that they were soooo much better.

so far, i can say that they work where my old nextels did not, and the services seems much better, although the tels have many issues that are very difficult to deal with.
here is the list to date:

1. How...

This phone is no good. You cannot roam with other CDMA carriers, except in very tiny areas. You cannot use IDEN for phone calls, only the 1900 mhz. If you look at the coverage maps, you'll see Nextel has a much larger coverage area. Sprint has not added a tower in 6 years, in North Carolina. Dump the phone. you'd do better with a regular Sprint dual band, or a nextel.

What area of NC are you? I live near Charlotte and I am think of getting this phone because if I travel to the NC mountains I want something that has a chance of working. Right now Nextel does not work at all. I at least want some cell phone service. I assumed that this phone would roam to another carrier or maybe analog. But from what I hear you saying that is not the case.

i will tell you that its now been about 3 weeks, and i think this new hybrid phone works very very well. i am impressed. clearly, it operate son both iden and cmda networks, and allows free roaming.
i only expect now, that nextel will stand up, and upgrade this to the camera fone that i already had, and now miss.
