Nextel Partners question

I'm currently a Nextel customer but fall under that "Nextel Partners" group (West TX market). I was told I could switch Sprint without any term fee (Sprint has better coverage across Texas but in the area I live in Nextel has better reception so it's a toss up and my contract is up Aug '07) but will Nextel have any plans comparable to what I have now? I currently have a Nationwide 400 + 600 for $39.99 but Sprint's closest is a local or region plan but there's roaming close to the city where I live. What are my best options? Stay and hope for better plans from Sprint or consider one of those dual phones? I would like to keep the Nextel phone but services like txt, web, picture messaging and phone pricing is better with Sprint than with ...

Well, eventually you would have to leave and I think it would be best if you would go to the Sprintโ€™s CDMA side rather than their IDEN side, especially if they get better service on the CDMA side than on the IDEN side. It makes a lot of sense to do the switch. What I would do is waiting until the newer phones come out into the marketplace then makes your decision. I would probably say wait until midyear 07 and then choose what you want to do. There will be new plans coming up all the time so just stay patient, unless you are having problems now, then switch and be happier.

That sounds like what I'll do. Also, I was comparing international service (Mexico, Spain, France and South America) and I noticed that Sprint has better coverage than Nextel. With Nextel, I would still have to get a GSM phone (I think I would still have to with Sprint) but it appears that pricing for international roaming and international LD is better with Sprint than with Nextel. I think I'll do like you recommended and stay with Nextel for now. Also, I have a friend who no longer uses his Boostmobile phone. Can I switch the iDen card from my phone to his and use his boostphone? I'm starting to have problems with my Nextel phone but I'm trying to put off getting a new Nextel phone until I figure out if I'm going to go to Sprint.

Not 100% sure on your question, but Nextel highly does not recommend it.

What types of problems are you having with your device? What device do you have?

One more, I am not sure you mentioned this, but where are you located? (just too tired today)

I live in Lubbock, TX (zip 79415). I have an i710. When dialing a number, the 7 and 0 key are tricking in that I have to press a little harder every time. Eventually, the keys will probably stop working. Reception tends to go from 4 bars to no service periodically in a location where I typically had no problems up until 2 months ago. I don't mean to complain b/c here Nextel tends to be better than Sprint but upgrading is still going to cost too much especially if I'm going to buy a new Sprint phone next summer like you recommended that I should do. I guess what I'm trying to do is find a phone that works better than mine without spending too much since I'll probably just go with Sprint next year. I'll probably get a really nice phone ...

I remembered the i710, but it was not a very good kind memory because the reception was not that good, but a lot better than the i730 but everything is. I like the i870 and have it personally along with others but that phone is very good everywhere so yea.

Sounds like a capacity issue that has to deal with Boost and the consensus plan that we are going through for the next couple of years. Try to see what tech support says with the phone and network.

Well, there are some phones that you do not have to pay that much for. Such as under $100 for some devices just for now and then perhaps later on maybe 1-2 years or so you will get another device. It just matters what you want. Change now? You can. Change later? You can. It is up to you....

Or.....I bet the new i670, for only $49.99, is a good, solid, working phone. More advanced isn't always better, it seems. I actually prefer my i530 over my new i850. I live/work on a farm, and that i530 was constantly getting dropped, beat up, exposed to the elements, etc., and it never stopped working. Also, I couldn't find a place where it wouldn't pick up Nextel service, and I'm in an area as rural as rural gets. But, I just wanted an upgrade. Now don't get me wrong, the i850 is quite nice, just as any other Nextel phone (I can't even imagine having a little dinky Verizon phone), but honestly, I think the i530 performed a bit better, and I'd chance a guess that the new i670 is the same way.

I do have a friend with the i870 (you s...

Very true. That saying is not with Nextel though because it is with everything else when it comes to shopping. You pay for what you get unless you have connections. (lol ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

About a year ago, I got an almost new i730 off eBay for only $29. In its day, I do believe it was almost a $300 phone. Check there, and maybe you'll find a decent one to use for the time being.

Personally, I'm going to stick with iDEN until they actually boot me off (if that indeed happens). In my area, it's better than any CDMA provider, and I have NEVER had a bit of problem with Nextel service. But, as is frequently stated in these forums, it all depends on your area. At any rate, Nextel service is good, and the customer service people are usually really decent and knowledgeable (at least they were until Sprint came into the picture), so I can't complain. My friends with Sprint phones are always dropping calls and having trouble, ...

I think I'll try that instead of the boost phone. Thanks for all the info.
