Tethering

Is the unlimited MediaNet enough to use the phone as a wireless modem for a laptop or do you need to pay for another service as well? Thanks.

I dont really need the 3g,..as it isnt in my area, and i dont use the cingular tv or radio. ALSO, i kinda want a phone that has memory for music, and a data cable included,...maybe a nokia 6682?????

Switch from Music play to Phone or other tasks

According to the manual, you can switch from playing music to other tasks by hitting the left soft key (minimize). In playing around with this, the only time I can get this soft key is if I select All Songs, and start playing from the first one selected by the phone. If I select a playlist, or if I skip down a couple of songs to start the play, the minimize key does not show up, and is not functional.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug.

Do mp3 ringtones have to show up in music player?

I've created a ringtones from a mp3 (about 20 seconds long), I moved the mp3 from my 1GB memory card to the handset memory, and set it as my default ringtone. When I go to my music player, however, it shows up with all my other mp3's (that are on my memory card). The ringtones that came with the phone do not show up in the music player, and I don't want my 20 second clip so come up there either. Any way to accomplish this?

Whats your tethering speed?

I just kind of wanted to know what everyone else was getting. make sure you post if you are in a 3G area or not too.

I'm not getting very good speeds in San Diego on the 3G network. i'm averaging about 45-52KB/sec.

UMTS 2100?

I was going through the engineering menu (for those of you who have not accessed it yet you can get to it by pressing 277634#*# on the keypad and then going to modem setting) and saw FCC TEST. Then I went to WCDMA FCC, and bam, there is a setting for WCMDA 2100. Does this phone utilize this frequency? Don't just look on the side of the box people... let's get a real answer here!

Sending Pictures via email?

Is there any way to send pictures in memory through Medianet Email? Or any method that doesn't use IM? It's kind of addictive and my 200 IMs are gonna get eaten up really quick. I'd rather send stuff via email if I could.

Earpiece fluctuations

Reading in various forums I know there are some issues with fluctuations in the volume of the earpiece. I have made about a dozen voice calls and it seems the call volume is very low when someone just starts speaking. It then normalizes out once that person continues talking. However most conversations are two sided hence the fluctuations. I accessed the engineering menu and made the phone choose EFR and that has seemed to make the problem less noticeable.
Anyone had this issue and if so what was your resolution?
Other than that the phone is great. Download speeds and overall functionality is solid. But hopefully this voice issue can be resolved or the phone is useless.

LG data transfer software? Data Suite?

I just got my cu500 after I had been through 3 v3's. I was wondering if there was software for LG phones that can be used for data transfer between your pc and the cu500 similar to the motorola mobile phone tools that I was used to? I've been told that it doesn't exist but I would like verification. Has anyone been able to make their own ringtones and use them via a usb dongle? That is what I planned on doing. Thanks

Help w/ Memroy Card

Bought a new 512mb memory card- Kensington. Installed in the phone, and through the Memory Check screen it showed approx 500MB available. Plugged it into the USB cable, and the USB Mass Storage Device screen came up on the phone with the warning not to disconnect during transfer, as normal.

However, while the computer does see this as a mass storage device, it keeps asking me to insert the media. It does not see any capacity on the Phone Drive. This is the second Kensington memory card I have tried, with the exact same failure, so I am starting to believe that it is the card. It does state that it is Phone ready, and TransFlash compatible, but ...

Any ideas?

MS Exchange Active Sync Client

The Exchange ActiveSync Protocol allows mobile devices with Internet access to sync the device with the Exchange server. Usually the devices run PalmOS, Windows Mobile, or Symbian. Since the CU500 runs none of these, the only possible option is a J2me ActiveSync client.

The good new is, there is such a thing - DataViz has a Java MIDP 2.0 client, called RoadSync. The bad news is that it costs $50.00, and only syncs e-mail; no contacts, no calendar, no tasks.
http://www.dataviz.com/products/roadsync/java/index. ... »

They've only tested it with Motorolla phones, but the free demo download works with the CU500 just fine. The only tricky part was entering the server name. I ended up typing "sync.example.com:443" to specify that the SSL conn...
