MP3 ringtones

A few friends of mines have this phones that can be used as MP3 players, Now can those also be used as ring tones? and if so how do you or can you send mp3 files to your cell phone? We tried sending 30 second clips that are only about 235kb in size to the phone through yournumber@tmomail.net, but each time the message comes through but the attachment which is the mp3 file is dropped. Does anyone know how to do this? thanks

Caller ID quirk

When I receive incoming calls on the 6682, I do not always see the name of the "contact" person calling. Srangely, if I receive a call from someone with more than 1 number in my contact list, the caller ID function will only identify them if they are using the first number listed. (This was not the case on my much less advanced Nokia phone used previous to the 6682.) I played with the default settings etc., but this does not seem to be the root of the problem. Must I save each number under a seperate contact name, i.e. "John, John2," etc.? has anyone had a similar experience? Could this have something to do with a SIM transfer gone wrong?

Fact: if Bluetooth

is turned on , it IS using battery power.

Even in an undiscoverable state, if a paired device attempts to connect, the connection completes.

MP3?

DOES CINGULAR ALLOW YOU TO DOWNLOAD FREE TONES AND THEMES OR DOES THEIR FIRMWARE NOT ALLOW IT?

Plastic Screen Cover.

When I got my 6682 from Cingular yesterday, the plastic screen cover came with scratches and looked a tad worn. Can that be replaced or should I call Cingular getting a new phone? My Krusell case is on it's way, but won't serve as much of an important role now.

Rich, PTT?

I know in the specs, it's listed as having PTT, but there is no dedicated button nor software installed (at least not on my phone that I can tell) so how will it work?

Playing Music and Watching Videos on the 6682

Ok guys, I'm sorta new to these advanced cell phones and all. I just got the 6682 the other day and was wondering what you have to do to play other forms of music besides MP3 files. Is there a way to play wav or windows media music files which take up less memory than MP3's? And as far as watching videos/movies on the phone, what all do you have to do in order to do this? thanks in advance-

What is Crippled with Cingular Firmware?

OK, so some of us already have the phone Cingular branded flavor (saved us some $$$). The question now is, what has Cingular done to this phone?

I've seen some website that have some way of flashing this phone, but they specifically say that it isn't unlocking. What do I win if I "uncostomize" this phone? Anybody found a way to use the IMEI to unlock this phone?

http://www.bongowireless.com/blogs.php#107 »

"09/02/05 | Nokia 6682 flashing is now supported - V3.01.1
Version 3.01.1 is now supported for Nokia 6682. Uncustomization is also avaiable if requested. Unlocking is still not supported at this time but we will announce it when it becomes available.

Voice Dial

I'm a little ticked that Cingular "stole" the voice dial key on this phone tying it to the Voice Signal software with only a 7 day free trial. I don't see any other way of voice dialing now. I read in another post, deleting the Voice Signal software restores the normal phone voice dial. Has anyone else found this to be true ?

Does seem I can activate the "speak now" regular Nokia voice dial from my bluetoth headset. It seems much slower to connect though. Perhaps because of the Voice Signal software.

More 512Mb Memory Observations and Questions

OK, here's what I think I know so far about installing a 512MB memory card in the 6682:

Must be a dual voltage (1.8/3.0) card: DV RS-MMC (same as MMCmobile). This card has twice the number of contacts as the stock card.

My card is ATP brand (supposed to be faster)model# AF512HMB-EX

Here's my observations:

Using Nokia PC Suite 6.6.12 File Manager I can see the full 512MB but the Backup package only sees 64MB and warns me that I might not be able to restore the backup from the original 64MB card to the 512MB card.

I can copy files exceeding 64MB to the card with the file manager. (the file manager sees the 512MB)

The Memory tool on the phone sees the full 512MB after I formatted the card in the phone.

I think the memory l...

How much is this phone @ Cingular?

Does anybody know how much this phone costs with a 2 year or 1 year plan at Cingular? I don't want to get a new number, so I guess I can't sign up with a new plan at letstalk. I went to a local Cingular store here in Palo Alto, and they didn't have the phone yet 😢 I can't get the phone until my plan expires in October anyways.

lemme know.
thanks in advance

IM+ and Cingular's MEdia Net

I was wondering if anyone has purchased IM+, by SHAPE Services, for this phone or any 60 Series phone and was able to use it with Cingular's MEdia Net.

Thanks,

MEdiaNET Speeds

GreetZ all,
After connecting to the net with my 6682, I have the following speeds on average:

Download Speed: 82 kbps (10.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 28 kbps (3.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Speed test done by:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ »

Connected via USB and Bluetooth, same results. The Bluetooth isn't a bottleneck. So this is slightly faster than my old 1xRTT connection via SprintPCS Vision. Granted I could have gone with the V-CAST option with Verizon, but those guys cripple their phones WAAAAAY too much.
