What is Crippled with Cingular Firmware?

OK, so some of us already have the phone Cingular branded flavor (saved us some $$$). The question now is, what has Cingular done to this phone?

I've seen some website that have some way of flashing this phone, but they specifically say that it isn't unlocking. What do I win if I "uncostomize" this phone? Anybody found a way to use the IMEI to unlock this phone?

"09/02/05 | Nokia 6682 flashing is now supported - V3.01.1
Version 3.01.1 is now supported for Nokia 6682. Uncustomization is also avaiable if requested. Unlocking is still not supported at this time but we will announce it when it becomes available.

OK, I need this thread back at the top!...

Here is another question, it is to my understanding that upon request any carrier MUST provide a method of unlocking a phone, BUT most of them will charge for this. Anybody know how much Cingy charges for this service?

Cingular didn't cripple anything in this phone. This is not Verizon.

verizon sucks.

they have the worst customer service ever. so rude in all my experiences. i dumped them for good a long time ago.

they also wish to rely on older technology and most of their phones suck.

they also charge you up the ass for things.

Granted, this is why I stayed away from Verizon even though they have EV-DO. None of the bluetooth profiles are crippled.

OK, maybe a little confusion with the wording. This phone is probably SIM locked, but what other kind of locking will be in place?

TBA

Side note: Anybody ever faxed to/from their Cingular phone?

boom back up to the top.

GreetZ all,
How do I remove or at least change the BIG "Cingular" on the top of the screen (next to the clock). I used to have a nokia back in the TDMA days, but I think I had to change the name of the service provider or maybe enter some super secret code to get to a hidden menu.
I know it's enough with the "Cingular" ad that I've got painted on the outside of the phone, I want that space for my own expression.

Please don't tell me that they put a huge Cingular logo on this beautiful phone. What kind of branding is on the phone?

I won't even wait for a response before I ask if anyone knows where I can pick up a cover to replace the cingular branded one?

Well there is the outter logo which cannot be removed, but I was refering to the BIG "Cingular" text (not a graphic) that is displayed on the LCD next to the clock.

I can't seem to get the darn thing off. I've tried many many programs and many websites that talk about the famous "Blank Operator Logo".

In regards to the requirement to provide unlocking service:
When I talked with a Cingy rep, she said that they will unlock the phone for free only after 3 months of Cingular service- as a former ATT customer I had to start all over again.
