Data technology status check

Just to clarify, can anyone sumarise the current technology used in data transmission for the different providers and include info on when the current system will change to the expected one if known. I want to know better which providers are running the fastest, and for how long it will be like it is.

My current understanding is that CDMA is on the 1xRTT system and this is fastest.

GSM is on GPRS and this is not as fast. But when will CDMA be on EDGE, which I understand is just as fast as 1xRTT?

Kyocera 7135 Audio output jack !!sub-sub mini!!!

In re Kyocera 7135 and the ________whatever they call this (unnecessary) another sized plug to push standardization one ring out in the solar system. Why? In any event, this is a 3 pole plug: stereo as described or a balanced line, e.g. one with a +, - and a ground. I bought an adapter at Radio Shack, which it must be said that every jack or adapter I have ever bought there does not work after a very short while or not at all, so I have not really tested the issue. Is the receiving f (F) input wired to receive standard 1/4:" phono; oh no, we're down to 1/8" now. not this sub sub mini.....;wiring for stereo out put or is it wired the other way (can practically speaking only be one of two ways, = at the tip or minus at the tip. I cannot ...

Wireless Network Card T-Mobile 750

I have a HP Jornada that i would like to use the T-Mobile Internet card(Sierra Wireless 750 Air card) in my PCMCIA slot available in this PDA.I am not sure about its usage. I am a mobile person needing access to the internet for pricing and emails.

Has anyone used this wireless card on any machines. I would like some testimonials and opinions of their usage.

I am still thinking of buying it with the idea and hope that in about a year or two there will be much better and faster wireless devices with or without the use of a wireless card.

Motorola's new ferrari class...

Have you seen these new cell phones from Motorola?! The V710 has an integrated MP3 player, removable memory card...meaning you can store your work in your phone, video capture, 1.2 mega camera, etc. Heh heh, I'm glad I've been holding out on upgrading my cell. This is awesome!! I saw details at www.hellomoto.com/producer if you want specifics.

Bluetooth Question

I am holding out for the Nokia 6230, and am wondering about the MMC Card, and transferring files such as MP3s. The two options I can see is either purchasing a USB Bluetooth for my desktop, or a memory card reader. I guess my first question is can you transfer files like that over Bluetooth, and my second question is, if you can, which is faster/easier? Going over Bluetooth or with a memory card reader?

Better signal in a tall office building

I work on the 24th floor of an office building in atlanta. The reception for our ATT cellular service is not very good in the office. Reception is fine on the lower floors.
Is there some equipment we can install that will give us better cellular reception within our office. Please don't suggest we install a new cellular tower.

thanks for your advice.

New CDMA/GSM phones coming out??

I read on this board that there will possibly be a new CDMA/GSM phone coming out this year that would accommodate both platforms. Anyone know what this is all about??

I am currently with Cingular/TDMA and am considering a new phone. I am considering staying with Cingular and pursuing the GSM route or going with Verizon Wireless/CDMA. The GSM v. CDMA posts have been very helpful, but there are many areas in the US that may not be adequately covered by GSM in a "reasonable" amount of time. (hence: no service in those areas)

Push to talk

Verizon lovers-don't kid yourself. Your push to talk(wait) service is horrible. Verizon is a great company with better phones and more advanced features, but Nextel owns the PTT areana. 13 milliom subs all with PTT handsets. Verizons latency is 8-10 seconds for call setup, vs Nextel's sub-second setup. I used there service for a short time, but could not stand the latency. I heard Sprint's ready linc is a little better than Verizon's, but have not used this service. Post your ideas about PTT service, good or bad. That's what these forums are all about. Thanks!

Will a Cingular buyout of AT&T mean better coverage?

Will coverage improve for both Cingular and AT&T customers since each will have access to the other's towers? (Does it work that way?)

And if that's the case, how long will it take before this benefit is available to the average consumer like me? days? weeks? months?

Lastly, if coverage does improve, how will Cingular's new improved coverage compare the the current Verizon coverage? (Coverage is the only reason I've been staying with Verizon so far.)

Thanks for any help.

GSM/TDMA

by having GSM overlay, does that hold back the tower coverage potential? or does it even matter? would coverage increase if cing just tore down anything TDMA?
