HELP!

😳
I have done, or attempted, to do SO much research on pda's in general. I have no clue about all of the symbol's...yet, like evdo, sdio, wap, isp, mms, ota, tty, yaddi yaddi yaddi.
I need severe help. I have until the 15th of January to pick and stick with a phone. I live in an area that is terrible with cell reception. I have Verizon and with my E815 it had no problems at all with reception.
My fiance' purchased the treo W for me for christmas (retail). Everyone told him at the store that it will not get great reception where I live and travel. He got it anyway because thats what I wanted. Well, they were right, 2 or 3 days later I took it in and got a Q. Needless to say, I want the treo back.
You talk to one person at the store (...

James Kim and Cell Phone Service

I hesitated in positing this question as some may be offended by the morbid nature of my question and/or some may question my sincerity. So to reassure everyone ahead of time, as a father, husband and a human being, I am depply saddened by the loss of James Kim. I pose my question with only the best and legitimate intentions.

The horrible tragedy regarding the loss of James Kim aside for a moment, a question has resurfaced for me. The last I heard the FCC still plans to allow cell providers to deactivate analog (AMPS) cell service in the US very soon. Though the Kim's may have had digital service on their cell phone, there are still many areas (aka potential death traps) of this country that rely on analog cell service. Shouldn't all cell...

E-Mail on Cellphones Grows; GMail for Mobile Strong Among Retailers.

For the complete channel check, visit www.thechannelcheckers.com

We have completed our first survey of the year on mobile e-mail for personal use (as opposed to corporate solutions) and found that Blackberry devices from Research In Motion (RIMM) are the most recommended devices while Gmail from Google (GOOG) was the most often recommended e-mail solution, primarily because the solution is free to the user with a wireless data plan....

A recent item in GSM vs. CDMA

Cingular's claimed the least dropped calls. Now T-Mobile claims the least dropped calls according to a different survey.

It's starting to look like this has something to do with GSM technology.

For CDMA, yes you do have a much better chance of connecting the first time you try. So for advantages and disadvantages we see this.

GSM- Calls drop less.
CSMA- Calls connect on the first try more often.

Creatiang your own ringtones

Does anyone have any experience with creating their own ringtones for the LG VX9800? I am able to do it, but the ringtones I create always get created and put in the 'my ringtones' section and after a while or when the phone has been turned off and then back on, the created tones end up in the 'my sounds' section and cannot be used as a ringtone. Anyone know why this is and how it can be corrected? Thanks.

Samsung and a Phone/XM Radio

Does anyone know if Samsung has a Phone/Xm Radio combo in the pipeline for 07. I bought the Helix and everyone thought it was a Phone. I ended up taking it back because it did not have bluetooth headphones, I am hoping they will come out with it integrated into a phone soon, that will be really cool.

So, who's excited about. . .

The Zune phone! Steve Ballmer says it's coming! Doesn't everyone think it'll be the biggest thing ever!?!?

Isn't it gonna be great when we can FINALLY use our Zune software on a phone? It will totally be the most exciting tech announcement of next year...

Opera Mini

I have a Samsung and my carrier is Cingular. I just downloaded Opera Mini on my phone and it works great. I was concerned about the message that displays saying it uses airtime minutes. Does anyone know the estimated amount it uses per transfer??? Is it really worth it?

THANKS!!!

Trends I'd like to see more and less of

Trends I'd like to see more prevalent in phones:

Camera quality: Quality in phone cameras has been given significant attention in recent years, but the problem is that these companies seem to only be interested in how well their cameras look on paper. The megapixel race is a great example. Samsung came out with a 10 megapixel camera phone that only took pictures comparable in quality to a bargain bin 2 megapixel digital camera. Even when image quality is being considered, certain other aspects of photography are being ignored, like shutter delay and sensitivity in low light. Even on the highest quality camera phones, it's often impossible to capture moving objects or distant objects at night (as flash only works close range). There'...

Why FM but no AM radio reception in so many devices?

These days many devices (including phones and radios) have FM tuners but not AM. Why not AM? Is it a technical thing, a market thing or what? How much more cost or device space would adding AM require of the manufacturers?

Are no phone users, joggers, toaster users, etc. interested in sports, talk, news, and whatever? Here in NYC, AM has almost all the talk stations (ranging from Rush to NPR), plus Bloomberg, sports, all-news, and for that matter religion and Disney kids.

BTW, I'm talking about good ol' free broadcast reception, not streaming, and certainly not extra-cost airtime.

Camera Flip phones - where they at???

Im kinda into my phones...I usually buy a new one every 6 months or so. I try to stay up on the latest tech and such...plus i flat out just get sick of something and want a new one.
I dont have a digital camera and dont feel like spending a million dollars for one thats actually decent. I use my razor to sent pics or whatever, and i know what everyone will say -- its first and foremost a a phone, and a camera second. But i see Nokia has the n90 and n93 which from what i hear are good phones but awesome DVD quality video and crystal clear pics - Again, these items are $700!! Anyone know of any cool phone similar to these at a better price? I also dont mind the folding feature these phones have that make them look more like vid cameras...

Bluetooth enabled am/fm radio

I was told via email reply from "Cindy Knight -
Cingular Wireless Online Customer Care Professional" that Cingular is scheduled to release a bluetooth earphone that will allow and play am/fm radio. This is great news since I have been hoping for a radio that wirelessly transmits am/fm radio into a bluetooth earphone. Sadly however, I cannot find any info at all about it. Does anyone out there know anything about this new technology?
