unlocked and non-U.S. phone questions

Phone tech dummy here has several general questions. I am looking to replace my phone w/ideally a camera/FM radio/MP3/Bluetooth phone but do not wish to sign up w/any contracts until/unless I can get the Nokia N95. I currently have an old Samsung i500 for the time being paying monthly after my contract period has run out w/Sprint. I don't understand:

1) if I buy a phone that isn't currently offered by a US carrier, how do I know I can get a carrier to carry it for me? I know I have to check which bands the phone carries and match that to the carrier, but are they required to take that phone on if they don't offer it themselves?

2) I read a blog about the Nokia N95 stating they were going to get the phone AFTER FCC approval. What is th...

Your opinion of .mobi sites

Hi folks,

Good afternoon.

I was viewing your discussions in some of these forums, very interesting & useful....

I thought I'd check with the forum members whether you have tried viewing from mobiles the newly launched .mobi sites - that is, sites adapted for viewing on mobiles...

I co-ordinate a .mobi directory of sites @ Mobinomy ( http://www.mobinomy.com ), and am currently collecting views and opinions from mobile forums such as these for users' experience of .mobi sites (for reference, you can find a list of .mobi sites at Mobinomy...)...I'm specifically interested in your valuable opinions on the ease of navigation and usefulness of the information while using .mobi sites from a mobile phone, as well as any other inputs...

Does anyone know if the colored casing from a cingular SLVR will work on sprint's cdma version? i have looked at the CDMA variant and noticed that it has the memory card located by the battery unlike the GSM model where it is on the side. anyone have any insight on this swap?

Phones for the Disabled

I worked with people with various disabilities.
I am always getting calls to identify cell
technology that is accessible for people with
disabilities.

Do you know of any cell phones currently on the market that have larger screen or ability to magnify text, or have auditory feedback when you depress a button (phone voices what was pushed)

or larger buttons/raised buttons.

Thank you for help

MediNet vs SprintTV vs VCast

How do the media services for the major carriers compare?

They all want me to sign up for a "media" package with a new phone in addition to a minutes plan. These plans seem to include some Net like components and some TV like components.

How do the carriers services compare for content?
How well do they perform?
Are they really useful and cool or just a technology that isn't there yet?

Is there a good review on the subject?

I tried playing with some of these features on a Blackjack at a Cingy store but the phone must not have been properly set up and the sales dude was clueless.

Sprint (my current carrier) has had TV for sometime for CNN and ESPN I guess but have been led to believe that reception is spotty and performance ...

Holiday Shopping Trends, Hot Cell Phones for XMas

Here's a link to Wirefly's list of the top ten cell phones for this Christmas season. They've identified the most sought after models, and it sounds like they'll be offering special deals on every phone on this list:

Seems like a good list to pick from.

Opinion of LG AX245?

Alltel is my service provider and they have an LG AX245 cell phone that they have been selling for about one month. I've heard some of the older LGs weren't that great, but they have improved. Anyone know anything about this newer LG AX245? Reception/clarity/Sound? That is the most important thing to me. All the rest (camera, etc) is secondary. I would appreciate opinions about LG cell phones in general too.

Motorola Krzr k1m questions...

Ok so i've had my Krzr k1m for about a month and i really like the phone except for 3 things and I hope someone out there can help me figure them out:

1. The phone only allows me to set different ringtones for different contacts when the vibrate setting is off. Why is it like this, and is it like this on all Verizon phones, or just the Krzr because I really think it's stupid

2. Does anyone know how to turn off that horrendous missed call alert?

3. Can someone please tell me how to put music onto the phone from my computer without having to buy that Music Kit from Verizon? I've spent enough money in the past month on this phone and I don't want to spend another 30 bucks if I can help it.

Thanks so much 😁

Black Friday, Cell Phones Dropping too??

The annual day, I believe it's after Thanksgiving, when stores slash prices to accomodate consumers shopping for the holiday season. My question is, will cell phones be affected? or Have they been affected in the past seasons? I'm looking to buy a treo 700p, but after getting scammed for an i930, I don't want to pay $400+ for it. Can anyone help?

Urgent question

I have a customer who has an "at risk" teen and needs to get a phone or some other GPS-type device that she can give to her daughter without her knowing she has it. She needs to be able to identify where she is if she leaves home and possibly gets herself into trouble. While Sprint has a program called Kid Finder or something like that, she is worried about her daugheter turning off the phone or being out of range and not being able to find her. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a device and/or service that will accomplish this? Thanks so much....

Unreleased Cingular phone with more storage than video Ipod?

Hello,

I was speaking with a friend of mine(non tech geek, head of a company) about the new 8525 and how I was waiting for it. My friend me how he was speaking with a head of major media company and this person told him of a new phone that cingular was coming out with that would have more storage than a video ipod(so that puts it in the 30g-80gb range).

I asked my friend for more details or to contact the media head for more details. He said he didn't know more and wouldn't contact this media head for such a trivial matter. Being a geek...it is always nice to know what is in the pipeline.

I am sure this tidbit of information is reliable.
Does anyone know of such a phone in development that would be released within the next ...
