Ringtone Size - Picture Messages - 200KB file size limit??
May 31, 2007, 10:33 AM
in the LG VX-9400 forum

Ok, I've uploaded a few clips to the "my sounds" folder, and am going to send them to myself and save them as ringtones. However, I get the "message size exceeds limit, impossible to compose, try another one" error. The file is 204kb in size, and as far as I remember, the limit was 350kb for a picture message with verizon, correct? I remember this was the file size limit when I had the 8100, which is the phone ...

Phone Calls
Mar 30, 2007, 2:37 PM
in the LG VX-9400 forum

I haven't seen this phone in person yet, but from the looks of it, to access the keypad, you have to flip the screen around. That being said, when the screen is flipped, the microphone for the earpiece (the one you hear someone talking to you out of) would be off to the side, instead of top dead center, correct? Does that make phone calls a little "interesting"? Or, is it once you actually dial the call, you can ...

Hmm....I have to wonder if the same is true for stereo televisions, 19 inch and smaller screen sizes....

Re: How do you delete the bitpim ringtones off of your phone
Apr 29, 2006, 7:16 AM
in the LG VX-8100 forum

Go into the menu, go left twice to the get it now section, select get tunes and tones, scroll down to "my ringtones", highlight whichever one you don't want anymore, and press the left softkey (says erase on the screen)...note this will only work for ringtones you've added...you can't delete the stock ones this way. Any ringtones you've added should have a yellow box with a bell in it next to them, where as the stock ones have a ...

Lol before you get blasted on here, go into the search menu at the top of the threads page, and type in the title of this post...this has been covered. You can get the cable on ebay, and bitpim is free....and as for a step by step, that's over at howardforums.com, but if you search on here, you'll find the thread that points you to the specific post.

Re: Where is a good place for 30 sec clips of songs?
Apr 29, 2006, 7:12 AM
in the LG VX-8100 forum

Best thing to do is make them yourself. Not telling you to download music, but if you decide to back up your cd collection on your computer, cropping part of a song and using it is relatively easy.

Apr 29, 2006, 7:10 AM

From what I've heard, radio shack carries one that goes from 2.5 mm (the size of the jack in the phone) to 3.5mm (the size of a normal headphone jack) Try them out, or any electronics type store (tweeter, best buy, etc) Actually, if you have any luck, can you post on here and let us know?

No problem. I noticed you mentioned the MP3 player being disabled....you do know how to turn it back on, right? If not, lol just punch in "MP3 Player" in the search box at the top of the threads page. Plenty of posts on it.

I am an actual tech, and I haven't heard anything about it, and I keep up on that stuff, seen as how i get alot of those "i heard this was coming for this phone" type of questions. Being that the phone is getting up there as far as cell phone age is concerned, and the fact that LG is launching the 8300 for Verizon soon, I'm pretty certian that the 8100's days on store shelves are numbered. If ...

Re: Is there really a limit on the number of mp3's you can have?
Apr 28, 2006, 5:37 PM
in the LG VX-8100 forum

Depends on how long, or how big in size, the actual MP3"s are. On my 1 gig card, I have 200 songs. Each song, on average, is about 3 1/2 minutes long. Now on top of that, I also have music videos and pictures on my card. If I removed all of that stuff, and freed up the 300 mb that all of that is taking up, i'm sure i could fit somewhere in the ballpark of 425 songs ...

I'm in the philadelphia region. In regards to the speaker, we wouldn't have replaced the speaker, as doing so would have voided the warranty on the phone because we would have had to open it. We, as technicians, used to have to be certified by all the manufacturers (lg, motorola, nokia, etc) before they would let us take a phone apart and replace components. They stopped doing that because it cost alot to get certified, and the companies (Verizon ...

Easy now.....if you crack the screen, they'll replace it, so long as it's within a year of you buying it. Now if you snap the screen completely off, they won't replace it at all.

I have to wonder where you got super from. I use it because it's the only one i found that didn't give me a video/audio sync problem, and I didn't get any tojans with it. Ah well....I wish you luck.

NO, what you were told was correct. All of the instore technicians work for a company called solectron, who is subcontracted by Verizon Wireless. As for repairs, again what you were told was correct. We can't actually take apart phones and replace screens or bad earpieces or anything like that. So all in all, what you were told was true.

Ironic that you say that the techs don't work for Verizon anymore....I must be out of a job and just don't know it yet. Man going to work tomorrow is going to suck! Anyway to answer the replacement question, it'll cost ya 50 bucks to get it swapped. You'll leave with a working phone. Now...with the 8100....chances are the one you'll get will be "refurbished" but should work just fine. Also the unit they'll give you will have a ...

Stock Ringers..????
Apr 23, 2006, 9:34 PM
in the LG VX-8100 forum

OK, I've searched long and hard over at howardforums, and haven't found the answer there, so I'll try here. Has anyone figured out how to delete the "stock" ringtones that come with the phone? The ringtones numbered 1 - 10? I've tried via the newest version of bitpim, and I can get bitpim to see the ringtones I've put on there, and I looked through every folder in the file system to try to find the stock ones, but ...

Yes...if you open the phone while an mp3 is playing and press the right soft key (above the end key) you have 3 different options to choose from....rpt all, rpt one, and shuffle.

I have a question on that as well....I have a clip of stewie from the family guy on my phone, and it's 39 seconds long...yet I can send it as a pix message to someone else. However, the phone only takes vid clips that are 15 seconds long. SO obviously the person that originally created it cropped it, converted it, used bitpim to put it on the phone, etc. My question is, has anyone taken the time to see ...

In regards to the camera, you have to sacrafice some resolution to shorten the delay. If you drop it down to 640x480, the delay is minimal. Granted it's still there, but after all, it is a phone. I would think if I was that upset over picture quailty, I would have gone to best buy or somewhere and bought a digital camera. Not trying to be smart alec, just logical.

One thing.....check the songs on your computer that you put on the card. Are they actually in MP3 format? I ran into that problem when I first got my phone. Realized that even though the songs on my computer were .mp3, they weren't in reality. Had to convert them.

Check your email....and send that to anyone you think might find it useful. Always glad to help! Again was in a rush, so that just shows you the settings to set super up for....doesn't give you a step by step. If you want that, let me know, and I'll write it up tonight or tomorrow, and then email it to you or anyone else that wants it. Have fun!

Ok enough of this already. Number one....don't blame Verizon. Have a problem with how the phone is made? Fair enough....can't please everyone all the time. But FYI...phones are made by manufacturers, not by verizon. So please be informed enough to not bash verizon for a product that they didn't build. They are in a sense just like a reseller....as in radioshack or bestbuy....neither one of them make phones either, yet they sell them, and when someone gets their phone ...

Sure do! Won't post them here though, mods keep deleting the threads. Check on howardforums.com They allow those kind of threads over there. One thing to note.....actually use the search feature to find what you are looking for, instead of starting another thread about it. It may take some patience and alot of reading, but the information is there.

Honestly I'm not sure if this can be done. It's kinda like the "stock" ten ringtones that come with the lg 8100. You can go into the phone and see them, play them back, etc. Yet going through bitpim, you can look in every brew folder, every ringtone folder, and even the filesystem if your brave enough, yet they can't be found. I'd like to delete them and free up some of the 2mb of memory this phone has ...

Re: RINGBACK TONES
Mar 28, 2006, 5:22 PM

Yes, however a ringback tone isn't something you put directly on your phone. It's not like a ringer. A ringback tone is something that the person calling you will hear while your phone is ringing. So, to calrify, instead of hearing the "brrrrrp........brrrrrrp.......brrrrrrp....." while they are waiting for you to answer, they'll hear whatever "ringback" tone you set up. Be advised...this costs money to do, since it is part of the "Get it now" service. Check this link and ...

Not sure, but I know a way you could find out....turn it on, and give your phone a day or tw, see how it does. FYI...I just got the extended battery for mine about two weeks ago, and it goes for 3 days without having to be charged, and that's with about 15 phone calls a day, not to mention listening to music all day at work (8 hours).....

Lol I agree with you about the startac, but keep in mind verizon doesn't make phones. Motorola, LG, Audiovox, Samsung, etc do. Also Verizon isn't about the latest and greatest phones, they are about ensuring that the network is the best. And even that is false, as they don't claim to be the best, they claim to be the most reliable. No wireless service is perfect, and I don't think one will ever be. They all have their pro's ...

When you put the files on your card, are you putting them in the MY_MUSIC folder or the MY_MP3 folder? IF you put them in the mp3 folder, the phone won't recognize them. They have to be in the my music folder. Not sure if they will play through the vcast player, but it's worth a shot. I personally don't use the vcast feature, i just stick with mp3's. Also...you may want to look around as to how to ...

By the way, the way to get into the "secret" menu is by punching in 74663# menu, menu. You have to press that sequence relatively quickly....go to a verizon store with technicans, find one that actually knows what they are doing, and ask about that. And if you took my previous post as me somehow insulting you, I apologize, but realize this. When all is said and done, it's a phone. The whole bluetooth thing, easy menu to navigate ...
