I broke both the outside and inside lcd screens on my phone and was just trying to find out if I would be able to replace them myself or if verizon could do it and get a price estimate. Thanks

ebay is your best bet, verizon no longer has service techs in their stores and lg will not sell service items to customers. I would get one on ebay, if you have ever worked on a phone it isn't that hard to swap that display, if you haven't i would try to find someone to do it. You have to take the screws out of the front and the back of the phone, then you have to pop the top part of the phone off the bottom(kinda of scary the first time) no that your phone is in two parts you unplug the cable from the lower board and you can remove old display(inner and outer screen are connected) then fish the new one through a little whole, plu into board and snap top of phone back onto the bottom. Went into all this explanantion just to give you an idea ...

Ironic that you say that the techs don't work for Verizon anymore....I must be out of a job and just don't know it yet. Man going to work tomorrow is going to suck! Anyway to answer the replacement question, it'll cost ya 50 bucks to get it swapped. You'll leave with a working phone. Now...with the 8100....chances are the one you'll get will be "refurbished" but should work just fine. Also the unit they'll give you will have a 3 month warranty, so if it does anything screwy, take it back and they'll swap it, so long as you didn't dunk it in water or snap it in half. Also fyi....even though your screen is broke, if the phone still turns on, they "may" be able to save your contact list in the phone. I do it all the time...the display being bro...

Great response. I appreciate that info as well. I wanted to ask about one thing. It was my understanding, and in addition to seeing it here I was told the same thing by a tech in my local VZW store, that all the techs were now subcontractors. That is, they all work for another company contracted to VZW. I was told no repairs in the stores, other than maybe minor, like antenna changes, etc. You have different info?

NO, what you were told was correct. All of the instore technicians work for a company called solectron, who is subcontracted by Verizon Wireless. As for repairs, again what you were told was correct. We can't actually take apart phones and replace screens or bad earpieces or anything like that. So all in all, what you were told was true.

Easy now.....if you crack the screen, they'll replace it, so long as it's within a year of you buying it. Now if you snap the screen completely off, they won't replace it at all.

where are you at out of curiousity all the direct stores around here just tell customers they have to buy a new phone since they aren't allowed to work on them anymore. It doesn't matter if its an 8100 or a cheap phone. I even went in to try this out since one of the speakers on my 8100 was blown. since that was under warranty they could fru it but all i needed was a speaker that I ended up getting somewhere else. it only took 5 minutes to replace, Which in my opinion is better that getting a refurbished fru phone.

I'm in the philadelphia region. In regards to the speaker, we wouldn't have replaced the speaker, as doing so would have voided the warranty on the phone because we would have had to open it. We, as technicians, used to have to be certified by all the manufacturers (lg, motorola, nokia, etc) before they would let us take a phone apart and replace components. They stopped doing that because it cost alot to get certified, and the companies (Verizon and Solectron) decided it would be better for the bottom line to just replace the phones rather then try to fix them. The moment we open it, LG voids the warranty, and we, in turn, would have to follow suit. That, and more often then not a piece that goes bad in a phone is more expensive then the ph...

i am in th midwest and i think you are sol if you break your screen, i don't think we have the $50 option. I work at an indirect and i have had plenty of people stop at my store looking for a cheap phone becasue they broke the screen or something like that and only had the phone for 6 months. These people have stopped at corp service center and have been told they could not help them and they had to buy a new phone full retail.

It was definitly a corporate store and I talked to the technician becuase I got my phone flashed. I understand the whole tv comparison but it was a speaker and that could be the easiest thing I have ever replaced on a phone. I ended up buying 2 speakers from lg and did it myself so no big deal. And I would have to agree with yeahright that around here I have never heard of replacing the phone for $50 with a broken screen. That is actually pretty cool just have never seen or heard of it.

I have a phone I would like to try to repair. How did you get the parts from LG? Is there a place on their website where you can order?

sorry i didn't see your post until now. I just looked for the repair # on lg's website. The # is 1-800-793-8896. I got lucky that they let me order speakers because normally they will not do it since you have to take the phone apart (voids your warranty supposedly even though its very easy to do).
