Re: Revolutionizing the Family/Data plan?
Understanding that you live beyond FIOS and cable range in the Tampa Bay area, do you have a landline telephone? If so, is DSL an option so that you can connect to the internet via copper wire?

Switching Unlimited Data From Phone To A New Tablet Possible?
I currently have two grandfathered UNLIMITED data plans for my two phones (two separate lines). Data usage currently rarely exceeds one GB (averaging about 1/3 GB).
I've been wondering whether I could transfer one of my grandfathered unlimited data plans to a 4G tablet that would use much more data, both Wi-Fi and 4G. I'd then get the lowest tier data plan for the second phone line when I upgrade my wife's phone.
I know that predominently Wi-Fi usage ...

I concur. There was plenty of traffic when I joined in September 2004.
I guess that there are just way more choices (often device and OS specific) today than there were years ago.

Re: So have these people not used a cellphone in the past... 10 years?
You are correct Menno. I have two enV2's.
However, you are also wrong. They did not come with VZ Navigator, Backup Assistant, or preloaded shortcuts of any kind.
They came with Browse & Download and Get It Now menu choices that could have been used to download applications. I chose to download only Backup Assistant. There was absolutely no bloatware/crapware.
The clear difference between the enV2 and Verizon's latest Android offerings is that you were not previously forced ...

Re: Texting Problem Between Verizon CDMA Phone and European GSM Phone
vzwinagent,
I can't know in advance which of the European carriers will be carrying my calls. There are several potential carriers in each country, depending on geography.

Re: Texting Problem Between Verizon CDMA Phone and European GSM Phone
Thanks for the link CellStudent. It might, as you wrote, be relevant. But, I tried the 011441234567890 method and the 011+441234567890 method after clicking around the website this morning. Messages still didn't go through eastbound either way.
Texting Problem Between Verizon CDMA Phone and European GSM Phone
 I bought an unlocked quad-band GSM phone and a European SIM card with a +44 UK phone number, for an upcoming trip to Europe. I loaned the phone to a friend who just arrived in France after traveling from the USA. When I, or others, send text messages to my GSM phone in Europe, the messages don't arrive. Similarly, text (SMS) messages sent from Europe are not arriving back here on my Verizon Wireless CDMA phone. Voice is ...

Re: Env3 for $10/month... or iPhone for $15/month... Hrm...
Judging by the numerous forum threads on the web, the ripoff $10 per month mandatory data plan since January 18th for basic "feature" phones, such as the enV3, has alienated thousands of users. Verizon would be well advised to ditch that plan for "feature" phones and go with something similar to the AT&T model for "smart" phones. It would make both classes of citizens feel much better about fairness in plan pricing.
Re: Texting Price Ripoff
Archer Bullseye,
If you are trying to get me, or other rate payers, to sympathize with the wireless carriers because they are losing money on text messages, I have a bridge between Brooklyn and Manhattan to sell you.
Texting Price Ripoff
I posted this in another thread in answer to a question. But on second thought, it really deserves its own thread.
Here's what David Pougue, the Tech columnist for the NY Times had to say last year about text messaging cost ripoff:
TEXT-MESSAGING FEES Why has the price of a text message gone to 20 cents, from 10, in two years? There was no big technology shift. There was no spike in the cost of electrons.
And speaking of anticompetitive: Isn’t ...
How SMS Costs Verizon (almost) Nothing
Archer Bullseye,
When I go to a movie and use the bathroom, I don't expect them to charge me extra for its use. All it costs them is the minimum wage worker to clean it, some water, toilet paper, and electricity for the lights.

Re: So I'm getting the LG VX8360. :-)
Menno,
You wrote: "Voice isn't profitable anymore, data is."
That's very true. But even more profitable, because it costs the carrier virtually NOTHING, is text messaging. It's outrageously priced and should be provided as part of the basic calling plan. People wouldn't be so teed off at the mandatory $9.99 data package for the newly renamed "feature phones" if that were the case.
Re: Droid app security question
Its not the NY Times or MSNBC that you have to be concerned with. I'd be scared silly that Fox News and Rupert Murdoch were watching if I were you.
Re: I f@*king hate the i-phone
jb4056,
You "haven't sold a env3 in about two months" for one basic reason. Verizon's reclassification of the enV2 as a "feature phone" as of January 18th. They now were able to rape subscribers by requiring an unneccesary, unwanted and overpriced $9.99 per month data plan.
Rumors
Whichever way you cut it, these are all still rumors. The key words are RUMOR, CHINA and ENTRY LEVEL.

Re: Question about Voyager, Dare and Possibly Replacement
Both the Voyager and Dare have been discontinued. You probably can't buy either one from Verizon anymore.
