Voice dialing

It's amazing that they just can't make the perfect phone with great features for VZW. The voice dialing software on this phone sucks! The fact that you cannot voice dial from your bluetooth is even worse, aren't we supposed to be hands free these days, my old Samsung i760 PDA phone has better voice recognition than this thing and it works with my bluetooth! It's ridiculous that a cell phone company doesn't include this, forget about all the other stuff the phone does, it's still a phone that you need to use in your car while keeping your eyes on the road. The android marketplace doesn't even offer a solid app for purchase, Google offers one that is more for VOIP call and rerouting your call through Google Voice, how about something that just...

Things you never thought to ask...
1. With my old LG phone, I tap my BT headset and it asks me to "Say a Command" like "Call Jack Kevorkian mobile". This phone requires that you (a) slide the lock open - or trace a security pattern, (b) locate and tap the voicedial widget (which can, at least, be moved to the Home screen and (c) after announcing the name to be called, you must tap the "confirm" button - in some cases it appears you need to also select CHOOSE the target number for that name (home/office/mobile). Hard to do while driving, especially with no keypad.
2. With this phone, there does not appear to be a way to pre-program voicemail passwords with "Pause" and "Wait" features; so calling office v/m means locating and tapping th...

YOU CAN PRE-PROGRAM VOICEMAIL PASSWORDS!!

From home screen, go to: MENU - Settings - Call - Voicemail seetings. Press "Voicemail number" and enter

*86, followed by one or two commas (,,) and your 4-digit password. Click "OK" and return to home screen. Press "Phone" icon, hold down number 1 key and it should dial your voicemail box and automatically enter your password. It works for me.

Aha! This works, thank you, and led to more exploring. What I now know is that VZW Backup Assistant (saves Contacts to VZW server daily) - which worked seamlessly to download Contacts to new phone - did NOT translate the OLD "Wait" and "Pause" characters. The P and W still appeared in the phone number, but not recognized as such by HTC device; so it was necessary to edit them out and replace them with - duh! - the W and P characters on the HTC phone keypad, which had completely escaped my attention. BTW: The "P" is equivalent to the old modem commma (approx 2-second pause). Example: 1.800.555.1111W*12345#P54321# will call the 1-800 number and you get a pop-up window asking if you want to send the string that follows the W; that string int...

Name and landline number on the home screen? Which home screen? Just slap a widget there.....??? It's not really hard, you just have to learn some things before you go bashing the phone.
