Verizon IPHONE chatter is getting harder (than usual) to ignore
By Chris Ziegler posted May 7th 2010 3:49PM
FeatureAlright, stop us if you've heard this one before -- but seriously, we've noticed an uptick on the tip lines here at Engadget in the last couple weeks that's becoming difficult to ignore. It's one thing to say "hey, the IPHONE is launching on Verizon," but we're noticing a particular confluence of facts that has us intrigued: it'll drop sometime in Summer, possibly in concert with the announcement that Verizon's first commercial LTE networks have gone live, and -- tread carefull...

Majority of Verizon customers want iPhone, but analyst says not this yearSam Diaz493 wordsThu May 6, 12:00 AM ETZDnet Blog Here’s a headline for you: If Verizon offered an iPhone, more than half of its subscribers would likely buy one. A survey conducted by ChangeWave Research found that 54 percent of Verizon’s existing customers would be either very likely or somewhat likely to dump their existing device and buy an iPhone. Until last week, I was one of them. But I refused to wait any longer - and for those 54 percent of you, I can only say: Don’t hold your breath.Brian Marshall, an analyst with BroadPoint AmTech...

I know it's coming just wait till WWDC10 June 7, the IPHONE is near.

Read it guys the 4G IPHONE will be here sooner than you think.
But to each his own. 🙂 What makes the iPhone better then let's say the droid incredible?
I appreciate the fact that you *REALLY* want an iPhone... I just don't understand whats so special about a locked down, over priced, fashion statement of a phone...
I just don't understand.
Especially now that there are viable alternatives that, in many aspects, beat the iPhone... that are already on Verizon. (Hint: Some of these options are just plain... Incredible)
Whooptie do. Someone doesn't get what they want because of *Insert random reason #235 here*. Apple and Verizon don't get along.
It's been 4 years... People need to realize that there is no Verizon iPhone and move along OR move to AT&T.
I like Android too, but there are still aspects of the iphone that I really love and if verizon got the iphone HD, im not sure which one I would choose (iphone or INCR). Its not a cut and dry answer.
The iphone also plays nice with a lot of corporations (including mine, which supports iphone, but not android).
Bottomline? The iphone=$$$$$$$$ for verizon and millions of units would be sold. So there is a market and saying "just get in incr" is not good answer for those people want the iphone.
All of the "VERIZON IS GETTING THE IPHONE!!! *FROTHS AT MOUTH*" is based on rumors and heresy.
No one knows when the AT&T/iPhone exclusivity ends. No one knows if it got extended for the iPad deal (rumors say it has... rumors). No one knows if Verizon and Apple are actually in talks or have made a deal.
So every bit of "I want" doesn't make it true.
Verizon might make money on iPhones... most likely a LOT of money.
*BUT* Verizon and Apple are very strong willed companies that have very different views of how "the deal" should be made. Neither company has changed much since the original deal got turned down.
There are still *VERY* fundamental issues that haven't changed with Verizon OR App...

2012 is getting closer... and talk about the world ending is getting closer... Still doesn't mean the world is going to end.
Rumors and speculation don't answer the original problems with Apple + Verizon.
I also know many people that don't want to deal with Verizon... so saying the opposite holds no weight.
I also know people that don't want to deal with either.
So, guys, why should the world end in 2024? I'm sure we can think something up... 😈
Won chance, thoh. Once hugh realeyes you're mistacke, yer dun. Don doot agin.
On the same note... this isn't an english class. I'm not going to lose sleep if an error or two pops in.
And honestly... "An opinion or a doctrine at variance with established religious beliefs"... vs "gossip".
Speaking against Apple isn't that far removed from being at variance with "religious beliefs" at the level of some of the zealots.
We could see them doing it, because... well... why not? It's Verizon!
Still, it would suck for VZW to do such a dastardly thing.
Even more, I hope I'm still with the company if and when the magic phone arrives. I should make a fair amount of commission. Unless, of course, Verizon decides to retire the commission system the day before it's release / capture.
I joke that we'd move to a non-commission system right before an IPHONE on Verizon, but it's not too far-fetched. Why would Verizon knowingly release a phone that we'll sell hand over fist without adjusting how we get paid first?
They wouldn't. If and when we get to that day, it will be interesting to see what happens.
Everything we do with a reoccurring charge, plus accessories we sell, generate a type of value. That value goes toward a value quota. If we hit our value quota, we hit our target commission. Generate less, make less - more for more. So a secondary line new or upgrade is worth $10, $10 goes into our value. If we sell a $100 accessory, $25 goes into our value. If we sell a $30 data plan, $15 goes into the value. Eventually, we generate enough to make money. There are certain things that can accelerate your commission, such as attaining a certain amount of your adds quota, or not having a lot of returns.
So in my current system, I don't care if you pay $0 o...

Android is killing IPHONE. How? Sales. Lots of them. Multiple models across multiple carriers.
For all the incessant IPHONE this and IPHONE that, you have to agree that limiting your product to one carrier has definitely gone the way of the RAZR.
"It won't be impressive until One android device outsells the Iphone" (Because single platform OS is Android's goal.. right?)
or Blue:
"It's because verizon had so many glitches most of those "sales" are warranty phones." (Correct me if I'm wrong.. but these don't go towards sales numbers, right?"
Glitches? Were there glitches I haven't heard about? I've done warranty replacements on maybe half a dozen units in six months. Did I miss something? Was there a recall on this phone, or a Storm-like software fiasco? I'm not really sure what they're referring to. But let's assume for a,moment that there actually was a mass issue with the phone. Warranty exchanges are not counted as sale. I'd they were then Verizon might be ruined...

The match up of Verizon and the IPHONE is going to be sweet heaven!
All the rumors about random no-bodies... but no response about contract info that's been reported.
Have fun with your iPhone... in 2012-3.
Only 2 more years to wait.
and love of destroying the dreams of those that get all wet over them.
Too much free time at work. 🙂
The IPHONE will be here this year!
Rumors of a Verizon iPhone arriving this summer continue to surface, with CrunchGear claiming Landor Associates, which handles Verizon's branding, is working an advertising campaign regarding Apple's next-generation handset.
Author John Biggs simply cited a "tipster" in Tuesday's report, which said that Landor Associates are "hard at work" in preparation for the fourth-generation iPhone. The report said Brad Scott, senior director with Landor, is believed to be in charge of the team.
"Because Landor focuses a bit more on branding -- they, for example, created the dual-B logo for Blackberry -- don't expect TBWA, Apple's current iPhone agency, to get pushed out when i...

This is yet another big piece of news pointing to the IPHONE coming this year! The moment many have been waiting for is near!
kinda trumps 'my friend knows someone who delivers mail to the guy who is next door neighbors with this guy who delivers mail to the ad agency that he SWEARS is working on an iphone campaign'
double dog swears with no taksies baksies don't really count as exactly reliable information.
just sayin...
If VZW gets the iPhone, never again would a customer service rep have the daunting task of trying to "save" a customer from canceling for the iPhone!
No more "I just want an iPhone." disconnects.
VZW's churn would drop dramatically and net customer adds would go through the roof! If VZW does release it before the end of the year it would make for a very happy February next year for VZW employees.

From the BGR! Posted today!
DigiTimes has released a pretty interesting report this morning, one that would have us believe that Apple has just placed an order for a whole whack of CDMA iPhones. The CDMA iPhone is to be built by Pegatron — a subsidiary of ASUStek — and the company is expected to deliver up to 10 million devices per year. Naturally, both Pegatron and Apple have declined to comment, but it’s pretty interesting that this rumor closely mirrors what the WSJ recently reported. Factor in that just two days ago we discovered that Verizon is working on an iPhone advertising blitz targeted for the end of summer and we’d say th...

Here's Why We Won't Get Our Butts Kicked When The IPHONE Goes To Verizon!
-- perhaps as soon as this year!!
So how will AT&T, the iPhone's exclusive carrier for the last three years, deal with that when it happens?
Will customers flee in droves?
Probably not, AT&T wireless CEO Ralph de la Vega said this morning at the JPMorgan tech conference (without formally confirming that iPhone exclusivity is ending). Why not? Because switching carriers is still pretty tricky to do.
•70% of AT&T's customers are on family plans, which is a pain in the butt to move everyone over to a new carrier, de la Vega said.
•40% of customers are on corporate discount plans, which are also...

One of our Verizon guys hit us up with some pretty interesting news. We have been told that when the mythical Verizon iPhone materializes, assuming it’s not a LTE unit, it might launch with VoRA; Voice over Rev. A. According to our source, Verizon has been testing VoRA as a precursor to VoLTE, and as long as the network upgrade timeline and iPhone release are aligned, we should see this happen. If it happens.
