Re: Bought the HTC EVO 3G...Switching back to iPhone 4
I'm calling BS on this, the screen on the EVO IS glass, if you actually had one you would know that. Your iphone was averaging 6 to 8, get the EF outta here. That's the most ridiculous thing I've read. No iphone on At&t can get that speed. The theoretical speed on At&t is 7.2, just about everyone knows the data speeds on At&t are embarrassing. What do you expect to accomplish by lying?
Re: Iphone 4 or HTC EVO 4G make your vote
Not to mention video chat on the EVO is not limited to Wifi, neither is video chat on the EVO limited to a single app.
Re: Most importantly: Compatible with Evo?
It is a marginal upgrade from the 3GS, it does not compare. Putting Fring or Qik on it will not do anything, Wifi is the limitation. The fact that Sprints 3G and 4G network can handle video chat, says a lot about At&t's "fastest 3G network" claims.
"Refresh"?
By the article title phonescoop are trying to make it seem At&t are launching "refreshing" new plans. These plans are garbage.
Sprint does not CAP phone data!!!
Yes, the only CAP Sprint have, is on wireless cards, Mifi, modems. Data on phone plans is unlimited, which include hotspot on the EVO.
Re: It's not the iphone....
All data which includes the iphone, At&t had been blaming their spotty network on the iphone. The fact their network did not use that much data last years, puts that claim to rest.
Re: FOR ALL THE SH%T TALKERS
Exactly, from what I've personally seen, a lot of Verizon customers who are thinking about switching to Sprint were complaining as well.
It's not the iphone....
I guess you've missed this: "Verizon, Sprint account for 63% of nation's mobile data traffic." http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/repor t-verizon-sprint-account-for-63-of-nations-mo bile-data-traffic/13790
Wrong!!!!

....another nail
Where is the first nail?? What are those "sputters and fits"? Last I checked, Sprint will have a 120 million 4G footprint by years end. Verizon will not have 4G until mid-2011 at the earliest. At&t will not have 4G until sometime in 2012, so... who is climbing a hill?
Re: Smart to go with LTE
There are two LTE standards, LTE 700Mhz and 800Mhz (GSM family). Verizon will use 700Mhz, At&t will use 700Mhz and 800Mhz. The standard Sprint and Clear are interested in is LTE-Advanced, 2.5Ghz, due to the Ghz band LTE-A is compatible with Wimax.
ONLY FOR VOICE!!!
This is old news, Sprint has previously said they want to move voice off of CDMA, moving voice to EVDO is one possibility. Moving voice to LTE (not the bands At&t and verizon will use) is another possibility. Wimax will still handle the data. LTE is better optimized for voice.
Re: Smoke and Mirrors
Why do people bother posting when all they do is pull crap from their butts? LTE 700Mhz (which Verizon purchased) is GSM based, Verizon will run into many-many conversion issues. LTE-Advanced which is 2Ghz, is compatible with EVDO and Wimax. The spectrum Verizon purchased is old analog radio and T.V frequencies. At&t has similar spectrum, although At&t has the 800Mhz band as well.
More proof here: http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/lte.htm
Forgot to mention
I would not be surprised if all of these iphone rumors going to Verizon, were from Verizons management. Too much of a coincidence.
Smoke and Mirrors
Wow, some are fooled by the smoke and mirrors, Sprint will have 2 years on Verizon with their 4G network. Verizons promise of 30 4G markets by years end was smoke and mirrors as well. I'll bet a doughnut, that Verizon dumps LTE, mainly due to the incompatibility issues between LTE and Verizons current network. Also, NO the iphone is not going to Verizon, neither is the EVO. I find it interesting that phonescoops title says, "Within a year", ...
Re: Most people don't need unlimited minutes.
Guess what?... Most people don't need to buy a gallon of milk, some do it anyway.

Still cheaper than Verizon and At&t*

Re: Good info.
I became privy to similar information, a Sprint rep on the Wimax side of things, showed our company the architecture for future Wimax. In many cases, Wimax will be the backhaul for Citywide WiFi, similarly to how a commuter train in New Mexico is using Wimax as a backhaul: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/14/new-mexico -rail-runner-train-gets-lit-with-wimax-sets-a -good-ex/ Other commuter trains across the country will have similar Wimax systems.
Due to Wimax being more similar to an internet connection, makes it likely. There will be Wimax equipped Ambulances, ...
Re: Its only a matter of time...
Don't be sorry, it's Apples fault, they keep releasing marginal upgrades to previous devices. People have grown tired of the rehashes and the closed OS. One of the issues is At&t, for the longest time At&t was blaming their subpar network on the demand of the iphone. Well, the latest studied which showed Sprint and Verizon accounting for 63% of all data in 2009, put that to rest.
Re: ----- Great INFO on Wimax vs. LTE -----
Exactly, sadly many people who favor LTE and bash Wimax haven't a clue. Wimax is optimized for heavy video and data use, as well as online gaming. Sprint will be pushing data, data, data, like never before. Data will be taking the place of voice, the HTC EVO being able to make video calls will showcase what Wimax is capable of.
World-wide vs Domestic
Those are world-wide figures for Apple: http://www.tipb.com/2010/01/25/apple-releases -q1-2010-financial-results/
Comparing those figures to Motorola US domestic sales, are not accurate. The Droid is still outselling the iphone in the US.
The HTC EVO...
The Sprint HTC EVO will have Froyo at launch. HTC and Sprint have said the EVO will have full flash at launch. Froyo is in the SDK for the EVO. Android 2.1 was not compatible with the EVO's 4G radio.
Google are not responsible for carriers lack of signal
It is not Googles responsibility to fix a carriers weak signal. Verizon and Sprint do not have these issues, which tells you what?! CDMA is far superior. At&t tried to blame their laggy network on the iphone.
Congress is a joke!
What about, truth in media, truth in advertising, truth in banking, etc?

"Verizon Wireless and Sprint Each Carried Over 16 Billion More Megabytes of Mobile Network Data Than AT&T in 2009, Says ABI Research
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In 2009, AT&T’s network issues may have led some to conclude that its network was carrying the most data traffic. But according to ABI Research, Verizon Wireless carried the most, followed by Sprint. Customers of these two operators generated 63% of the US market’s mobile network data traffic.
Says practice director, Dan Shey, “Interestingly AT&T ...
Re: It's not the phone
I'll set you straight, the Droid IS outselling the iphone in America: http://gadgetsteria.com/2010/03/16/actual-sho cker-moto-droid-outsells-iphone-in-first-74-d ays-on-sale/
That 28% figure for the iphone is Worldwide! The issue is about At&t in, America.
Re: Mobile Network Traffic
That data on wireless handsets is compressed, similar to how Apple allegedly "tweaked" the iphone. When I look at data usage on my acct, my data card uses much-more data than my wireless handset. I know I use more data on my handset, when I am out in the filed I tend to use my handset more than my laptop.
Re: It's not the phone
We're talking about two different Networks/companies, Cingular used to operate TDMA, When At&t took over, TDMA customers were converted to GSM, that is when the drop calls started to happen. The Droid is out selling the iphone, it is a more data/power consuming device than the iphone, how do you explain Verizon not having similar issues with their Network? Sprint and Verizon higher-end devices are more data/power hungry than the iphone, due to the fact they're CDMA 3.5G EVDO. ...
Re: Mobile Network Traffic
Bull-sh-t! Many-many Sprint customers with data cards(myself included) have been grandfathered over, the plans remain unlimited, no cap. I easily pull three times what you allegedly average. For your information, the data usage on a handset is not the same as the data usage on a laptop or PC. Check your, facts!
It's not the phone
At&t was having issues with their network long before the iphone came along, At&t may be able to fool their minions, they're not fooling me.
Re: I'd like to see how Verizon handles the iPhone
Do you have any idea how inferior GSM is to CDMA? It makes me laugh when I see comments like yours, as if the iphone is this wonder-device. Verizon have over 100 mil wireless broadband data cards on their network, there is no way an iphone pulls more data than a laptop or PC. Sprint has the most data cards out of all the carriers. At&t's network is garbage.
7.2Mbps??
Yeah right, in the areas where Att supposedly launched their so-called "7.2Mbps" speeds, people are only getting 800Kbps at best. This is just more smoke and mirrors.
Re: Just fix the network!
That is one of the stupidest comparisons I've seen.
Re: Just fix the network!
The problem is not just "ATT's" network, it's GSM in general. ATT chose to build their existing network on top of an old out-of-date network. ATT's current network is piggy-backed. Verizon and Sprint built their networks from the ground up, that is why CDMA is far superior to GSM. TMO is having similar issues with their network, GSM!!!
LTE is going to run into similar problems, it is being built on top of an ...
Re: Android 1.6 & 2.0
Wrong, the Androids on Sprints network will not get over the air updates. HTC said the CDMA Hero will get the 2.0 update via PC connection. There is no word of the Moment getting 2.0, let alone 1.6.
Re: I wouldn't want it...
Quit while your... NOT-ahead, what do you think "Google Experience" is? It is completely open. If The Hero was not Google Experience, HTC would not have been able to put Sense UI on it. Google told HTC to provide an option for the user to disable Sense UI, which HTC did. Once Sense UI is disabled, then it is stock Google.
