The trick is in the comparison.

Sure, the Storm comes out short as a business phone when you compare it to the Bold or even the Curve (IMHO) and it pales when compared to the iPhone as a multimedia/web browser phone. The trick if you want to make it look good is to compare it to the right phone.

I just spent my lunch hours, and then some, at Circuit City playing with the new Samsung Omnia. I had very high hopes for this phone and thought it would replace the Storm as my choice for to replace my Curve.

Long story short, I left without the Omnia and the Storm is still the most likely choice for my new business device once they get the final (for now) software update out.

The Omnia was a super sharp looking phone and seemed to perform very well...but I just couldn't...

A few questions

Wasn't the storm supposed to be capable of 3G connection? I have yet to connect at 3G even in NYC which I was very shocked at. Also, was it supposed to be able to load web pages so they look the same as they do on desktops? A few sites I've gone to have been the mobile version. When is the official .75 OS released? Is it Friday Dec 5? And if so, can I just connect my storm to desktop manager and search for updates and it will install .75? Any answers to these questions is appreciated. Thanks!

Bell releases OS 4.7.0.76 for Storm?

Just like it says. You can follow the link here if you want to try it. Looks like you would have to delete the vendor.xml file since this is not a Verizon specific verson. The forum attached to it can help you decide if you are able and willing to try it.

I would guess RIM has released these updates to the carriers but Bell has approved it's version before Verizon. Speed it up VZW!!!

We need a wipe of the forum...

its very cluttered.

we also need some sections so that fscdude, playboy and the rest of us could argue in and the normal questions could actaully get answered and not all off track with their and our arguing.

How fast is your Storm?

I just fixed the VZ Access manager on my laptop to allow me to use the storm as a wireless modem (I had to remove the program and re-install it). In NW Philly I am getting the following speeds checking it w/ the speed test on www.speakeasy.net:

Testing from NY

Download Speed / Upload Speed
1st Test: 353 kbps / 334 kbps
2nd Test: 483 kbps / 330 kbps
3rd Test: 507 kbps / 447 kbps

Testing from DC

Download Speed / Upload Speed
1st Test: 508 kbps / 379 kbps
2nd Test: 374 kbps / 372 kbps
3rd Test: 479 kbps / 352 kbps

I am very happy w/ the upload speeds...they are the same as my DSL but the download speeds I was hoping were going to be much more faster. On EVDO Rev 0 I was getting an average 300 kbps down and 120 kbps ...

Storm and new .75 software

Well, it looks like the intitial haters of the Storm are starting to go away. The more educated Blackberry users are starting to add their thoughts and in my opinion, doing a very good job of countering the rediculous comparisons to other phones...especially the Iphone.

Now that people are getting the new OS, things are looking up with fewer people complaining. The new OS makes the Storm a very good blackberry. Just wait till .76 comes( even better). Patience will reward you my friends. Ignore the negative reviews..better yet, read into them. What I mean is, if you read closly on who's complaining, you will see that many are first time berry users who were expecting something similar to the Iphone, Voyager or Dare. I'll be honest h...

over in the "Review: BlackBerry Storm" discussion:

Screen flip

FYI. You need to hold the device at approximately 45 degrees, whether portrait or landscape, to have the screen readjust quickly. If you hold it too flat, you'll think it was slow...its actually now 😎

Anyone else own RIM stock

We got an e-mail from our broker about how the "failure" of the Storm has had a severe effect on the RIM company and it's stock levels. It mentioned that even the success of other current new RIM products (I assume they mean the Bold and others) could not stop the slide after initial reaction were in on the Storm.

It also stated that Verizons reluctance to release updated sales numbers of the Storm has further fueled negative speculation. Looks like Verizon is protecting it's own stock and throwing RIM to the wolves.

I went to check this morning after reading this and RIM is not doing well.

Slow, Laggy, Stutters, non standard charging port

Of course Verizon wacks the Wi-Fi.
Heaven forbid.
This phone is slow, laggy and
has a charge/data port
that is not a mini USB
For the love of god can we stop making new ports on every new phone and just stick to something we all have a charger for already.
NOPE.... Verizon has to feed their kids too.
So you all have to pay up and get new chargers.

I'm not impressed by their supposed
"iPhone killer" that was verizons words, not mine.

The Storm almost makes my Q9M look good.
And thats not saying much.

HOWEVER, this phone is just barely worth 99$ if you paid that much for it, hopefully, but its not worth any more than that.

Does plan upgrade get phone discount?

I'm in the middle of a 2 year with Verizon, and my plan is an old one that used to be offered, but now has been replaced with their Select series of plans. My question is, if I were to go into a Verizon store and change my plan (upgrade to a Select and sign on for 2 years) and add the Blackberry data feature, would I get the new activation discount on the Storm?

Customer support says its based on my "New Every Two" date, but I don't think they are understanding that my whole plan would be changing. Thanks for the info!

The eagle has landed!! Storm in my hand as of 1 minute ago.

I Now have it in hand and about to leave the Verizon store.

One more thing Id like to add. Its nice to see 100+ people waiting outside this store in the cold, knowing they will be there for hours. Im done and out.

Cheers!

Landscape mode?

Is there a way to have your Storm in landscape mode and still have a background picture? If this has been discussed already I'm sorry. Thanks 🙂

Why so angry

Why r all criticisms of the storm met with such anger on this forum? I mean anytime someone questions or brings up an apparent flaw in this phone they are met with hateful, mean remarks. I have used the phone and it definitely has a lot of issues with lag, bugs etc. Why don't some of u guys just admit that there are problems with this phone. I mean most of you crucified the G1 when it was released but 2 be quite honest with u the storm in its current build is nowhere near as stable as the G1, it may look better but it was not ready 2 b released. I hope that RIM does fix the issues with this phone but as of rite now the software just doesn't utilize the hardware the way it should, its just 2 unstable

I've already returned mine

This phone is pretty bad. I bought mine the day it was released and was disappointed by the weak touchscreen, the lack of a qwerty keyboard when vertical, slow lag time, etc. Plus, Verizon tried to stick me with a 2-year contract when I only wanted a 1-year contract. I understand that the firmware upgrade has fixed some of the lag problems, but it is still a very sub-par phone. Stay away and wait for Verizon to release the BlackBerry Bold.

Simple man's take on the Storm

I have had this device since Wednesday and I think it’s probably one of the best devices I’ve ever had. My last phone was a BB 8830 which was not my first choice. I was waiting for the Mogul but it took too long to come out. I’ve had a Thera, Samsung 760, iPaq 4700 & Life Drive (I tethered these Verizon and cingular bluetooth phones). I’ve also bought my girlfriend a Treo, iPaq 6500 and Tytan, so I have had a lot of time to play w/ them. Hey, I’m a grown man but I love toys.

It’s definitely the best deal I’ve ever gotten on a smartphone or PDA. After the rebate I got the phone for $116. They also give you an 8 GB media card. I thought they should give you a holster but I’m getting...
