Slow and Cumbersome..

I have a G1.. and lucky for me I work in metro areas and live in an area with awesome signal strength.. also have wifi at work and home. but T mobile SUCKS with rural service and simple customer service.
But i am one of the lucky ones.. whew (except customer service).
Ok so I was a verizon customer. very happy one at that. it hurt to leave. But sence Ive owed the g1 there's nothing on the verizon network that would bring me back..
I tried the storm at a verizon store.. Not impressed. I don't know the BB OS very well so it was even more of a hassle. slow and cumbersome is all i have to say about the OS. screen is nice but.. needs a lot of work!
Kinda like most the apps on the g1 market!
ha
enjoy the improving tech peeps!

Storm, IPhone 3G or Omnia, that is the question.......

Ok People, I played with an IPhone 3G at the ATT store in New Brunswick, NJ for about an hour. I must say that I was VERY impressed. The internet browser is second to none! The call quality was crystal clear. I do understand that I was in the store and not out on the dock at the summer home in Pt. Pleasant. The camera doesn't have a flash, but that is minor. The touch screen is great.

The Storm was good, but not great. The browser is good, but not quite like IPhone. The video screen was awesome to say the least. It looks like HD on a phone. I didn't care for the push typing though. I like the touch of the IPhone.

I will test the Omnia, before making a final decision.

Right now, the IPhone is in the lead. I would hate to leave VZW ...

Using Storm as a Modem

I'm using my storm as a modem and I'm getting speeds of 1.75 to 2.1 Mps form speakeasy.com. That's awesome!! Must be the Rev A. 😁

Blackberry Storm or Blackberry Sidekick.

I have had my storm for the past few days. I know it will never be an iPhone killer. I have very large hands and actually like text imput on this handset. But the more I look at and play around with it does feel more like a sidekick than a Blackberry or and iPhone for that matter. Just wonder does anyone else have the same vibe. Now this just about how the phone feels of course the Blackberry OS is a bazillion miles ahead of any sidekick. 🙄

Quick Fixes That Helped.

1st thing was I deleted the vz navigator and reinstalled it. I also went to the Verizon Blackberry web site and I have updated my phone 2 times since I purchased the phone and has help a lot with the speed and some of the bugs. I hope that helps. As soon as they fix the bugs this will be a great phone! 🙂 Here is the web site for verizon wireless updates.

Compare Away

This phone should be compared to an iPhone, and a Dare and all other touch screen phones. The whole "Touch Screen Wars" began with the iPhone. Before the iPhone, there were not that many touch screen phones that were popular with everyone and it was basically seen as a gimmick. The reason RIM came out with the Storm was to have a touch screen device that could compete with the iPhone. Let's talk the truth here. You got Samsung making the Omnia touch screens, you got HTC making them, basically everyone is trying to make the best touch screen phone available. They are all being geared towards business users as well, so don't come saying that they're not because they are. Look at the whole picture.

what next?

I tried the Storm in a store the other day and I was unimpressed... I'll wait and try it again in a month or two and see if a software update helps.

But what's next for someone who wants a blackberry and isn't happy with the Storm? Are there any other RIM phones coming to Verizon?

No Keyboard? And You Call This a BlackBerry?

By DAVID POGUE
Published: November 26, 2008 New York Times

Research in Motion (R.I.M.), the company that brought us the BlackBerry, has been on a roll lately. For a couple of years now, it’s delivered a series of gorgeous, functional, supremely reliable smartphones that, to this day, outsell even the much-adored iPhone.

The Storm can display a touch-screen Qwerty keyboard, above, or SureType keys.
Here’s a great example of the intelligence that drives R.I.M.: The phones all have simple, memorable, logical names instead of incomprehensible model numbers. There’s the BlackBerry Pearl (with a translucent trackball). The BlackBerry Flip (with a folding design). The BlackBerry Bold (with a stunning design and faux-leather ...

Good web browser comparison video

If you are someone that is buy thing phone as a mini web browser (we all know there are some of you out there), this video does a pretty good job of showing web browser speeds of the Storm and the iPhone. Why anyone would buy a Blackberry as a multimedia device I do not know, but RIM has made the mistake(IMHO) of marketing this phone as such they invited the comparisons.

It pretty much just addresses speeds though and does not get into the ore advanced features of the iPhone like tabbed browsing.

One thing to pay attention to is how many times he has to click the screen each time he tries to activate the browser bar...and how long it takes for the keyboard to appear on the Storm.

Anyone thinking of buying the Storm, read this review first.

It is the most brutal review I have seen yet, and the closest to the experience I am my friends have had with the Storm.

Valid and not so valid issues/concerns with the Storm

There are a whole lot of things being discussed right now about the Storm. I think some of the issues are valid but some are not as valid. Here is a list of most the concerns I have seen so far and how I feel about them. Feel free to comment on the same issues and add ones of your own.

Software: Very Valid
This is the most valid issue. Without working software the hardware is irrelevant. So far this phone scores an F for software as far as I am concerned. I do have faith that RIM will eventually make the software right if they can convince enough people to accept the physical design of the phone.

Once they get that issue fixed we can move on to lesser concerns.

Click screen usability: Valid
If you are a fast typist I...

YouTube playback

Has anyone else compared the youtube on this phone to the iphone or other phones? My friend has the iphone and was over last night and we did side by side comparisons. On my Storm the video is pixelated, choppy, and not very good. On his iphone it is smooth and clean. Is there something wrong with my Storm or is this just one of the differences?

Simple steps to address lag issues

As I have stated before, you can drastically reduce the "lag" experienced out of the box on this phone:

-Open the BB menu by pressing the BB Menu button
-Scroll down to Options, select by pressing the icon
-Scroll to Screen/Keyboard and select
-Scroll to Touchscreen

-Increase the Tap Interval to 500.
-Increase the Hover Period to 1000.
-Increase the Swipe Sensitivity to High (6).
-Key Rate to Fast.

BIG difference!

Software downgrade and upcoming update...False rumor?

This is a quote from the phonearena website. Anyone else have any info?

Author's note: There were rumors of a last minute software downgrade with an impending update coming, which is why we held off on publishing our review for a few days, but RIM has addressed the issue and this has turned out to be false. Still, we think they have to be working on something given how bad the menu runs. We are rating the device in its current state, but if there are any major upgrades that change the user experience we will update our review accordingly.

over in the "Review: BlackBerry Storm" discussion:

Big turn out for the Storm

had to go to Apple this morning to get my phone checked. Since I was already at the mall I figured I would “Battle the Crowds” to see Verizon’s launch of the Blackberry Storm. It looks like they were all ready for the crowds too (With line barriers setup in front of the store)

I guess all their customers are at at&t stores buying iPhones!!!

They actually thought people would line up for it lol, sorry its no iphone haha
