This phone is pretty bad. I bought mine the day it was released and was disappointed by the weak touchscreen, the lack of a qwerty keyboard when vertical, slow lag time, etc. Plus, Verizon tried to stick me with a 2-year contract when I only wanted a 1-year contract. I understand that the firmware upgrade has fixed some of the lag problems, but it is still a very sub-par phone. Stay away and wait for Verizon to release the BlackBerry Bold.

Based on other smartphones out today there isn't too much of a lag. My girlfriend and her mother have Tilts and there isn't really a huge difference. There is a huge difference from the 8830 so I guess the bold would be faster as well. My experience is that every company tries to get you locked into the 2 year contract. I've head Sprint, Nextell, Cingular and now I'm w/ Verizon and they alll run the same game. What happens in pricing if you only want one year? Why would you want the qwerty screen when vertical...the sure type is suitable but if that's not your style flip the device. A lot of people have Pearls and other sure type devices and are fine. It's not that bad (i.e., one handed typing). Is there projected date for the release of ...

The Bold was a collaboration between AT&T and RIM. From what I understand, AT&T asked RIM to build it for them with a specific requirement for 3G

Doubt it's coming soon to any other carrier, but you never know.

Verizon may get the new curve that was released in Germany this past week. It was for T-mobile but the Curve seems to be the one blackberry that every carrier has.

As far as the contract goes, they shouldn't give you what you don't want. But the pricing difference for the phone can be a lot between a 1 & 2 yr contract. I personally always sign 2 yr contracts, but I also don't change carriers much. I was with T-Mobile for more years than I can remember...signed up back in the Voicestream days. Now I'm with Verizon. I don't plan on going anywhere since I'm happy with Verizon service, so 2 yr contracts don't bother me.
