Verizon RAZR V3m missing many nice features

Jun 15, 2007 by bhennon

I have used the Cingular RAZR V3 for two years now and have been 95% satisfied. I recently decided to try Verizon because i do not get cingular signal at my home. (that is the missing 5%)

I am exteremly disapointed! It is missing some simple but key features in a newer phone!?!

On the Brand new RAZR V3m I am unable to set the ringer to Vibe then Ring. There is no option to change the buttons on the home page so i am stuck with "Message" and "Contacts". There is no way to change the red verizon upper and lower bar on the home screen which wastes valuable screen real estate. And the worst yet is there is no "menu" button like i have on my V3.

I am sending it back and will re-up with cingular.

Worst phone sold today.

The V3m is one of the worst phones I've seen realeased in quite a while. I couldn't attempt to count how many people I've seen having issues with this phone. The battery life is very poor, which is to be expected with such a small battery, but people just can't seem to deal with needing a recharge by 5pm even with minimal use. The software is glitchy at best. The phone locks up and moves extremely slow. Trying to browse pictures from the camera is slower than trying to view online albums on a dial up connection. Put another notch on your bedpost, Motorola, 'cause you've screwed the pooch again.

i dont like it

I recently switched from my samsung A920(which had an accident with the washing machine) to the motorola v3m...big mistake
the music ringtones sound awful

the signal is awful

the interface is slow and the phone freezes up a lot

the battery life is poor

the phone feels cheep and plasticy

after a week with the phone i took it back to sprint and exchanged it for the sanyo 8400 which a million times better than the motorola v3m

The Razr V3m is a great phone.

I have had this phone for a little over 2 weeks. My carrier is Verizon and I live in Michigan. I can only comment on this phones basic functions because I don't use Vcast or Mobile web.

PROS:

Excellent reception- I was a die hard LG model cell phone guy. I can get signal in more places with my Razr than I use to with my 2 prior LG phones.

Excellent sound quality/clarity- It is almost as clear as talking on a land line.

Good camera- With sufficient light this phone takes good quality pictures for a cell phone.

Good speaker phone.

Decent sounding MP3 player.

Call restrictions- Can restrict both incoming and outgoing calls to whats in the phone book. You can then lock the phonebook. This is an awesome feature when you have a teenaged daughter!

CONS:

Battery life- As long as you don't use bluetooth, MP3, or Vcast/Mobile web the standard battery is fine. If you do use these features the battery level drops pretty quick. The larger battery option solves this problem.

No camera flash.

No "vibe then ring" option- I have heard/read that this problem can be fixed with "seem edit". I'm just to chicken to hack the phone and do it.

"Back light- Can't set back light to stay on permanently. The longest setting is 20 seconds.

Overall this phone is great as a cell phone. I would definitely recommend this phone to friends and family.

Razr v3m

I bought this phone like a week ago and it is definitely the best razr in america. It has great memory capability (1 GB), great speakerphone, a good camera and recorder, and gets great service.

3 v3m razrs later...

I originally upgraded to the lg 8300, had some memory allocation problems and swiched to the razor. the size and feel of the razor was a wonderful thing, however, it seemed quite stripped down compared to the lg. i ended up bringing the moto back because the keypad was loose on the upper left side, same thing second time but with loose buttons. third phone had the loose keypad again. i was told by verizon that it is just the way they all are. i ended up exchanging back for the lg 8300. i would recommend the razor if all you want is a sleek looking phone and customization isnt a big priority. there is no comparison between the 2 phones when it comes to functionality, take the 8300. if lg and moto could get together and give me the razor body and 8300 guts, id give it 3 thumbs up.

Horrendously Unintuitive

Even coming from an old LG VX6000, I find this to be the absolutely most poorly designed phone conceivable - almost intentionally so. CONS: No simultaneous audible ring AND vibrate [HOW is that possible?]. Contact Entries limited to 4#s TOTAL [Plus one Fax]. Period. Only template labels for each allowed (i.e. no customizing of "Lakehouse"). And NO NOTES space available for contacts whatsoever - i.e. "Contract Referral 06/20/06" for business. Cannot view actual # dialed for stored entries [just a barely visible icon]; thus, if you want to know WHERE you're calling a contact, you have to guess. No emoticons available at all for text msg. May seem "minor", but I use 'smiley's' all the time to convey tone [and yes, one can create it as auto-text, but still hassle]. Small buttons all over exterior side of phone ALWAYS get inadvertently pressed when touching the phone in any way; hence doing unwanted things. Cannot switch from CAPS to lowercase in Txt Msg. without huge hassle. Cannot see any info. about where text msg. was sent [only name] w/o lot's of digging. Cannot "backup" in menus without exiting completely [i.e. no 'one-step' back]. No info. on # of Contacts limit. HORRIBLE main menu/arrow buttons design; wrong keys are ALWAYS unintentionally pressed. Inbox Txt Msg. fails to indicate # of messages. No one-button erase for almost all features [i.e Pic Gallery; Txt Msgs., etc.]. CANNOT Search for Contact Info. by # or any other character/entry save for alpha-name (unbelievable). No ability to view # called/rec'd - just label/name [unless unknown/unstored]. Battery life is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. One day of a few hours talk time max. My LG6000 went a week or more. If calendar entry is entered for wrong day, no changing date only; must re-type entire entry. No choice for "never" reminder in calendar. Illogical menus; instead of main/middle button to choose save or option, one must choose left sub-menu. Does not work well with BitPim.

V3m is VERY cheaply made compared to the other V3 versions

Jun 29, 2006 by dnielsen1

The first thing I noticed when I got this phone is how cheaply made it was compared to the other V3 versions. I had a V3c and it was constructed of the aircraft grade aluminum (as advertised). But the V3m is obviously NOT! It's made of cheap plastic and anytime you flip open the phone or press a button you can hear that cheap squeaky plastic noise.

I think Verizon was so desperate to get this phone out that they were OK with a fast and inexpensive manufacturing process. Hello Verizon and Motorola... Have you guys ever heard of QA? Do you even have a Quality Assurance Department???

I was so pissed that I almost just cancelled my Verizon service right then. Anyways, I'm just really disappointed with this phone. I'll be returning it and probably getting an LG because at least every LG I've ever owned was well made and durable.

I had very high hopes for this phone and even gave it a chance but I just could not get used to how (yes, I'll say it again) CHEAP it's made.

avoid at all cost

this phone sucks. you cant play you own mp3s because of verizons stupid software on their phones. the video recording is 15 seconds. wtf motorola, do your videos always have to be short. scratchable very easy. the phone freezes restarts. hey it is a razr so it must suck. AVOID AT ALL COST.....!!!!!!!!!!
