So I put her into a z750 as it picks up UMTS 2100 mhz frequency. She further inquires about getting this new phone unlocked. So I call care and tell them the customer is needing the unlock code for her new phone and that I wish to be transfered to Teir 2 tech support so they can start a case request. Done this many times before with a week turnaround time. The CS rep tells me to hold on....anticipating she warm transfers me over to tech support. She comes back 30 seconds later and asks if I was ready. I said sure, and she gave me the unlock code. I was surprised she generated it so quick. Apparently, in Snooper, she can pull the unlock code for any phone. So I pop in an unused T-Mobile SIM and enter the code. Phone unlocked and power cycled itsself. Done. Did anyone else know that regular care could do this? This is great news. Will i've been able to do it in snooper for over 3 years. i just dont know how they track that so i use it very little.

Can you imagine PSP's or other wireless handheld gaming devices with WIMAX built in and being able to play on line against others wirelessly on the go like on a bus/train, waiting at an airport gate, or on a lunchbreak at work. COOL!

It works to get you through security, but when you get to the gate and they try to scan it before boarding the plane, it has never worked. They have to search for me manually to check me off the list. Have tried about a dozen times, at Bush Airport in Houston. I have an AT&T Tilt (320x240 screen).

The phone was never meant to be a PDA phone. It's for multimedia. The phone was supposed to be for users 15-24. It does have POP3, it has a free sync program where you can save you numbers on the network. Like I said people. BTW do the Ibrick open PDF files? I gotcha. I just think that Sprint and the threads started here opened that flood gate. Sprint would have really made some headway comparing the Instinct to the miserable Glide, Voyager, or Envy from Verizon OR some looser like the Pantech Duo on AT&T. Pitting a feature phone like the Instinct vs. a smartphone like the iPhone was just setting itself up for a bunch of disappointed users who may be thinking they can use the Instinct as a business phone. (Some can I am sure but I'm talking push mail corp). Believe you me, there were many of us iPhone users who were disappointed at the lack of cut and paste and true "push mail at release. The iPhone does open PDF files beautifully, They look as clean and crisp on the iPhone as they do on a PC. You do have to zoom and swipe in many cases but they are NICE and a breeze to read. :-) Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsxDvrP1Pv0

Lastly I figured what the heck, get a discussion going about pricing in relation to the economy, etc, see what people have to say about it which would only make sense that I put my two cents in to start. And here I get a VZW police telling me quite literally to quietly go away? Wow... Get used to it CWANTY is VErizon biggest defender at the gate. He will defend Verizon on every front ...a true Komrad of big Red Army,,,,Drnks Verizon Kool-Aid Vodka by the gallon.. But all in all he is ahoot to read......His frustration with th free world carriers is amusing.

especially if i went through what i had to go through with the iphone. their claim it was a bad apple (pardon the pun) from the gate. i spent about 6, yes six, hours on the phone between apple and AT&T. i can work on laptops/desktops, but everything i have had done with an apple product was relatively painless (i.e. warranty covered issues) the policies surrounding the iphone are just painful.

Hi ! First off, you need to do a little more research. With the EvDO network, IF for some reason you lose EvDO your phone will drop down to 1xRTT and still provide you data services. It is much slower than EvDO, but they are still available. Also, as for voice and data at the same time, if you are on a data session on EvDO, and you rcv a voice call, the data session WILL go dormant and once the voice call is complete, it will resume to an active state. So yes, in a sense you cannot perfrom both at the same time, but it DOES NOT disconnect you from the EvDO network. As far as GSM and CDMA goes, there are a LOT of major advantages with CDMA. First off, with CDMA you have a very low noice floor on the RF side therefore your tranmit power on the radios are very small - as opposed to GSM which still rely on the TDMA backbone and have 45watt PA's on the antennas. This is because the RF noise floor is so high that the transmitters have to go above and beyond the noise gate to broadcast. With GSM, you have your soft handoff and your hard handoff. With CDMA you have your soft handoff, soft softer handoff and your hard handoff - meaning when you are on a call, your phone will be scanning and paging into multiple other cellsites as opposed to just one with GSM/TDMA. I won't argue with the coverage map with SPRINT or VZN. Nobody is perfect. They all run a for profit business. Why would they have coverage in 0 population areas ? If that is the case, how is your roaming with AT&T ??

First, Metro doesn't offer phones for $250+ because they are working on adding new Markets as well as updating their networks. They keep their phones under $200 because people have been complaining about the high cost of the devices. No cell company comes out of the gate offering high-end phones, so we're out of luck there -- maybe in a year or 2. Smartphones are not in Metro's immediate future (hint: still updating their networks), so a Moto-Q lookalike will not happen around Christmas. You can MetroFLASH a phone, but you will lose some functionality (compatibility issues).

its their first ever touch screen and it has a revolutionary design. Its prolly not gonna be perfect out the gate, but I think RIM will fix things with software updates if need be.

It's just not worth the aggrevation.

This is true for most any smartphone these days including G-1, iphone, etc. They are complicated devices that are never perfect from day 1 Was Vista perfect? was OSX perfect? was the iphone perfect? Nope, but in time they get better 4.7.0.75 update primarily reduces lag issues.

I fully understand. I was in the market for a new phone and was willing to put up with a certain level of glitches/quirks. Given RIM's reputation and my ownership experience with several fresh-out-of-the-gate Blackberries in the past, I was thoroughly disappointed.

This is good strategy that was expected.

Sprint has wanted to be first out of the gate with 4G. This position validates that goal. Since WiMax is very similar to LTE, Sprint has also strategically placed themselves in the position of switching to LTE in plenty of time if needed giving them very competitive leverage for a great footprint in 4G with either technology. I commend Sprint in this strategy. My interest however, has always been towards WiMax for the pure aspect of choice and hope this may remain the case.

My biggest problem w/ this site is that everyone gets so damned upset when someone doesn't like a device as much as they do. I am not a VZW fanboy, I get a discount through work w/ them and actually switched to them about a year ago. I have had great network coverage w/ them at my house which is better than I can say about the other networks that operate in my area. Its not about being a fanboy, but actually being able to use the device as it is intended, to stay connected. Your right chainmail, I like the idea of the palm pre but so does everyone else that is excited about the phone. I like the idea about it being built on html code so that your "cards" are always up to date. I like that it has a physical keyboard. I like its quick, responsive screen and fast browser. I like the Synergy feature, though I am skeptical of how well it will work. As for it not having an app store right out of the gate, the fact that there will be one is enough for me. oh, and it WILL have flash. I am excited about a phone before it is out, just like all the people that were excited about the iPhone, including myself, before it came out. I've tried the iPhone, was not a fan. Plus I don't like being held to Apple's eco system. Rant over

I must say, I kept my Sprint Touch Pro still..(with free Verizon EVDO/3G Roaming :) Yet I also picked up a MetroPCS phone to see how it works in California. I've been shocked at the coverage. I was out in the middle of Golden Gate National Park today and we had people in our group from Cincinnati Bell Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and Metro, and guess which phone got services? Only the Metro phone. Now That's just a single example but as long as you're remotely close to civilization, for 30 bucks a month you can talk til you're blue in the face with MetroPCS. Or your call drops. That happens sometimes too :) still for that price... KEEP EXPANDING BITCHES
