Iphone Reviews are spot on

Well, the 3G Iphone is getting it's well deserved bombardment of bad reviews. It is amazing how consistant the problems are this time around. People can argue all they want about how great the Iphone is but give it some more time. I had it for 3 days and it drove me crazy!!! Great when working properly but that didn't happen often. The 3G speed is way overhyped and really not that fast(not for an extra ten dollors). The signal is just atrocious!!! The battery is horrible and the build is toyish looking. The OS is very slow. Tell you what, most of you all know this by now so I won't add anymore to this.

Apple diehards, I feel your pain.

I agree with your comments 100%! These are just plain, honest facts and not meant to bash Apple. AT&T on the other hand I feel is very misleading in their 3G coverage. It seems to me that this network is barely completed and for the life of me I cannot understand why they are so far behind verzion? People need to get a grip and realize that the network makes the phone, not the other way around. CDMA is far superior to GSM. It is a technological fact.

I agree with both of you. I do not own an iphone. I am a SPRINT customer. Call it what you will no network is 100% perfect. Everyone has they bad spots, their holes in coverage. They all run a for profit business. Why would they want to cover an area that wont generate them any revenue ? But what I dont understand is how overplayed and hyped the iphone is. Well yeah its cool looking, but people, ITS A PHONE !! At the end of the day, if it cant make a call, listening to my Barry Manilow collection on my phone doesnt make it better. AND, the new 3G ? How long as 3G been out ? Verizon and Sprint now offer EvDO Rev A. with FAR SUPERIOR speeds - also, you can roam on both VZN and Sprint. Can you roam on AT&T ?? Oh but wait, I can use my GSM phone...

GSM is the same technology that they use all over the world, which leads me to believe that it must be better, or else everyone would have stuck with the old CDMA. I mean, if Japan uses GSM, then you know it's the best out there, as of right now.

As for sprint, how's your service when you're not near a highway?

For the record:

March 16 1999 Finland gave out the world's first 3G mobile technology licenses. Four licenses awarded to Sonera, Radiolinja, Telia and Suomen Kolmegee. Technically some operators in USA and elsewhere already had the licenses and frequencies to operate third generation networks.

Beergirl..2 things. One if you do not have evdo coverage you can still get internet access. It is obviously slower, however with vzw covering 80 percent of the US with evdo you shouldn't have a huge problem.
Second thing--gsm is actually the older technology. The reason it is used overseas is because they started that first ans then cdma came out and it is extremely expensive to change an entire network, plus in europe you would have to get all the other countries on board to switch and boy what a hassle that would be. Just remember just because you have a lot of something it doesn't make it better.

Hi !
First off, you need to do a little more research. With the EvDO network, IF for some reason you lose EvDO your phone will drop down to 1xRTT and still provide you data services. It is much slower than EvDO, but they are still available. Also, as for voice and data at the same time, if you are on a data session on EvDO, and you rcv a voice call, the data session WILL go dormant and once the voice call is complete, it will resume to an active state. So yes, in a sense you cannot perfrom both at the same time, but it DOES NOT disconnect you from the EvDO network.

As far as GSM and CDMA goes, there are a LOT of major advantages with CDMA. First off, with CDMA you have a very low noice floor on the RF side therefore your tranmit power on...

There is no question that the Iphone has the coolest look and probably the funnest OS to play with. At the end of the day, you want to make calls....it's a phone, all else is secondary. As a phone, it fails in a huge way....so far. The browser is the best when working properly. But, lets face it, these reviews about the RF and 3G are no fluke! It's not whether Apple will fix it, they have to fix these problems. These problems are so consistant that I wouldn't be suprised that they recalled them....just my 2 cents.

Sparky?

Read what you just wrote! Everything you say the iPhone excels in has NOTHING to do with using it as a PHONE!!! As a "phone" the iPhone sucks.
As a multimedia "device", it is just plain awesome (that is if you lucky enough to be in a 3G area............has anyone looked at how dismal the 3G coverage in the USA is?)
List the 5 top things that are important to have as a PHONE.........the iPhone looses that fight badly. And oh by the way........the VZW Dare does indeed do upgrades thru new upgrades!
The fancy touch screen does nothing for the portrait only text messaging screen or the call quality and speaker volume and the joke of a camera and what MMS.........way too funny🙂🙂🙂

I don't know if he's a troll or not, but as an actual iPhone owner... for now, I can tell you that there are many issues with this phone. I've had mine since the 12th, would have been the 11th had it no been for AT&T. The battery blows. I went to the iPhone workshop at the Apple store and the gist of it is, if you turn off all the cool features, your battery life is extended another day. WOW!!! What a deal.

I've not even had mine two weeks and the keyboard sounds, ringer, and text sounds no longer work.

I have to go back to the Apple store tonight and see what they can do for me.

I'm an Apple fanboi and this is not at all what I expected.

I don't own the phone, and probably WON'T!!!! Yes it has some very appealing qualities, but they are far over shadowed by it's inadequacies & things the phone should do, but doesn't. If you're going to tout the phone as revolutionary, it should at least be able to manage what most phones it is challenging can do & add to that..... With this guy, you get some nice savvy stuff, and some real disappointments.......

As for a CDMA being superior to GSM, I'd do some technical research on that...... Europe, Most of the rest of the world & Asia are very largely GSM, this is no accident.... They are technically about 3-5 years ahead of the U.S. Europe & some of asia are rolling out 4.5 or 5G..... Japan for example, has so good coverage with GSM t...

GSM is a superior technology. I was in Hong Kong a few years ago and almost everyone was talking on their phones in the subway. The problem in North America is the number of GSM cell sites. If the number and density of them matched places like Hong Kong, no one would be complaining about their iPhone's signal pickup.

Here in the USA, Verizon has put up more sites than anyone. That's why they beat out AT&T for coverage.

I have at&t, Verizon, and Sprint. Unlike some, I do have 3G iPhone. There are slight problems with the phone, but I'm sure Apple will fix them with updates. Above all, the phone is good. Not perfect, when is a phone ever perfect. It does have the best web browser and music/video player out there for any phone. As for what it is missing, such as MMS, Apple just did it so they can sell more later with the next model. Probably coming out next year.

As for issue on CDMA and GSM. CDMA is the newer technology. It depends on who you talk to on which one is better. As for me, they both are good. One thing for sure CDMA beats GSM on security. It was developed by the US military and put to commercial use by Qualcomm. As for sound quali...

What else do you expect from AT&T? After what I went through with them back in 2002, I'll NEVER EVER trust them again.

http://www.epinions.com/content_62972399236 »

Now they flood the airwaves with misleading commercials claiming their phones work everywhere 'other carriers' don't. What BS! 'Which' other carriers? Verizon has it over them by leaps and bounds for coverage in North America. Remember the old Verizon Wireless commercials with Earl Jones? His words still make the most sense to this day: “A cell phone is only as good as the network its on”.

I don't know what contractual agreements exist between Apple and AT&T, but I think it would behoove Apple to make a CDMA version of the iPhone. Can you imagine how many t...

Sure, the battery life could be longer, so buy a flippin' car charger and shut up. everything else is working perfectly. maybe some of the complainers out there got a bad piece of hardware, it happens, but i read the same crap before i got the Moto Q, BB Pearl, and the Curve, and guess what...no issues with them, either. people unlock their phones, stuff 'em full of unsupported, 3rd party apps, then cry when they go kaflooey. they should make people take an IQ test before they sell the dang thing.

that'll work, but i'm sick of hearing the repeated vilification of a device that fails to include features that i don't care to use. 3G coverage in my area is *fantastic*.

i don't use MMS, i don't take videos, i don't listen to the waste of bandwidth that is FM Radio, and with 16 gigs i hardly need expandable memory, etc., ad infinitum.

what i want is a device which eschews a mind-numbing labyrinth of menus, plays lots of music and video, and gives me instant access to google maps and the internet. SMS can shove it.

hey! what phone does that sound like?

You can talk all you want to about how bad ATT is or how bad the Iphone is, but one thing when saying everyone is having trouble think again. The reviews you speak of here on phonescoop for the 3g are of just a small portion of the over 1 million sold. Wait a minute did Apple sell over a million 3g iphones, well they sure did. Of the reviews you speak of now I would have to say maybe 70% of them are from actual owners, 5% are from people who really want the phone and tried one out at a store, the other 25% are probably from the same person who is trying so hard to make people not want to keep their phones. Love Apple, mac person for 15 years, but their phone SUCKS. Constant dropped calls & no signal. I could live with it if Stevie wasn't such an ass***e. His way or no way. That's why it's ATT & not VZW. ATT caved to Apple demands but like VZW, they should have told them to f**k off. $29 phones have A2DP, MMS, Copy/Paste, Voice Dial & Video Record. I am in South Jersey all day & constantly lose calls. My Nokia was the same so I blame ATT for s**t coverage. They opened the App Store - but nothing major to support the missing features, except a voice recorder. I think tey will block these. Personally, I think the BB Thunder will be the 'iPhone killer'. They already have all the missing features & more.

I will not be so quick to blame the 3G coverage on AT&T. I had a Nokia 95-4 and it always held on to a 3G signel where I live. There is no question in my mind that its a defect, software glitch, whatever, on the Iphone itself. The Iphone 3G signel is just so bad that I can't believe that the fanboys still argue that there is no problem.

Long story short, as I was leaving, their car was parked next to mine. I politely asked them what was going on. Yup, same problem as me and many others. Yes, Apple sold a bunch of them, but not everyone has theirs yet. Wait till they get them in their hands for a few days. So yes, I agree with you, Apple sold tons of them.
