ME: "Would you like their toll-free number?"
CUST: "Can't you transfer me?"
ME: "I can ask permission to."
Cust: "Uh...OK."
*I commiserate with my supervisor, she stands firm*
ME: "I'm sorry, I've been denied permission to transfer."
CUST: "What do you mean? They do it all the time."
ME: "I know. It's not against policy, it's just that I personally have a very high transfer rate and I can't transfer anyone else. Would you like the toll-free number?"
Apparently I can't say things like that, because my supervisor burst out laughing and then told me to lie next time.
