What's the oldest portable handset you remember seeing in use?

And by 'portable', I mean, not a bagphone or a built-in.

From my days at Radio Shack, I remember the Q-Phone, made by Qualcomm in Sprint's early days in 1995-6 - one of the first all-digital handsets. Going even further back, I remember Radio-Shack branded handsets, used through Cellular One, I believe. This would have been in the early-to-mid 1990s. They had a penny-phone, you got 200 minutes, no N&W or MTM, no data, no text, no nothing, for about $80 a month. I could be wrong about the airtime, it was a long time ago. Just a phone, a charger and a manual you could use to crack someone's skull with.

Question about rollover minutes

Alright, lets say someone has 5000 rollover minutes with AT&T and they switch to an unlimited plan, what happens to the rollover minutes? Do they get lost?

I know if you downgrade your plan, you cn only keep a maximum amount of minutes that your plan has per months (such as if you have 5K rollover minutes, and you go to a 400 minute plan, you'll then lose 4500 minutes).

Anyone got any info?

Sprint Employee plan after quit?

Hello Sprinters,
I'm leaving my current job at sprint to practice EMS. I'm wondering if I still will have my employee even though I am not working there. Really not trying to scam anyone, just want to make plans for my wireless service.

calling all service techs....... story time

Lets share some of our shop stories.

Lady comes in her phone got wet (corrosion and liquid indicator) . I tell her yeah well i cant swap it out . She said and i quote "I didnt get it wet the rain did" . I felt like saying so bad well let me just bill the rain for the repair then.

Older guy comes in , i have had this phone for a week and i havent been able to get 1 call yet. Ok sir let me see your phone. It was a 9000 so i pwr it on and it maked its little startup beep. The guy says hey what did you do? i said i just turned it on. he says "It doesnt say in the book you have to turn it on to recieve a call!!" I felt like take his phone away and banning him from using anything electronic .

Got to just love lawyers

They would sue God if they could figure out how to find him to serve papers on. Had one call trying to get info about a number because was going to file a class action suit because that number was envolved in spamming their offices and Sprint should not let that happen.

Acted high and mighty and thought he could get through to the info he was after by being a lawyer. Was fun. In the end the number envolved never was nor ever had been a sprint number. Forgot to tell him that.

ATTWS in the home stretch

Ok, just a little ranting and raving about the final days of ATTWS. I a partner/mananger of an ATTWS exclusive store in the NYC/NJ market. Just a few observations as of late. The level of rep in the Dealer Services Dept is going way down hill. They are using temps, and must be doing crash course training.
They have shortened the window for upgrade criteria, in effect this means less people are eligbile for discounted handsets on renewal replacements, the criteria was out of contract or expiring in '04, now it is out of contract or expiring within 3 months. I guess the thought is let Cingular deal with it, when all is settled on that front. We now the best network we have evered had, and the best handset selection and they kill ma...

I Think I Just Became Dead Inside.

This woman's phone is not holding a charge and the touch screen wont work. To top it all off, her mother died today, and on the way to the hospital she was in a huge car accident and, due to her phone not working, couldnt get a hold of anyone for help. She cant troubleshoot the phone because its the only phone she has, and if it wasnt for people hearing her scream, she probably would've died in that car.

Now, the crappy this is, I cant do an exchange on her phone without trouble shooting it, so I cant do anything about it.

I pucking hate my job right now.

Copies of other peoples text messages

Ok so I used to think this was urban legend but its out there and getting more popular.

I have recently had 2 different customers come in and tell me that during their divorce their spouse has been getting copies of their messages and one showed me proof.

I did a quick google search and there are multiple companies out there that offer this service. Does anyone know how its done? I assume they are somehow pulling it from when it leaves the clearing house that handles the messages for all the companies?

Tell me if you have ever done anything like this...

I was on a sup call when the customer then asked for MY manager, by policy and because there was no one else i could get on the phone at that moment i told him it would be a 24-48 hour call back. he did not accept this and told me he would not hang up until i got someone on the line...

Now the next thing i said i didnt think about before it came out and i probly should have but this is what i said...

"Well sir, would you mind holding for about 24-48 hours?"

I really like my job and REALLY like helping customers and treating them with respect but like i said it came out before i thought about it.

3 party battery doors?

Anyone know any ways I might be able to obtain a 3rd party battery door for a Samsung m360. Web sites or anything like that. I'd put this in a more relevant forum but they dont have as much traffic.

Samsung aparently does not carry the battery door because its too new. And its not on Sprints website of available accessories.
