Nextel mini-rant

I really hate the fact that their customer service and FDT departments are closed on Sundays. I mean, what am I supposed to do if I need to search for a ban number or make changes to a rate plan?

"Whats the difference...."

"...between these two?"

๐Ÿคจ

"Well, this one has a camera, the other doesn't. Bluetooth vs no Bluetooth. This is silver, the other black. This one is made by Motorola, the other is a Nokia. This has a speakerphone, the other doesn't. The silver one is EV-Do, black one is 1x. This one supports real music ring tones while the black one doesnt. Silver one has double the memory of the black one. Talk time 3.2 hr vs 4.9. This one is a flip, the other is a candybar style. The charger port is shaped differently also. Screen resolution is double that of the black one. Besides that they're pretty much the same."

I wonder how ofter a car dealer has a customer looking at a Saab sitting next to a Chevy Suburban and asks that question.

BOGO

Wow, so some customers really are stupid.

Had a customer come in and was hoping to find some BOGO deals on camera phones. Well, when she picked out the phones she liked, I told her that those were on special and through the end of the month they were going to be $50, with a $50 Mail In Rebate = FREE!. She didn't like that. Another store up north had the same phones for BOGO, and she was adament about getting BOGO here. All in all, she wanted either the Samsung a850 or the LG vx5200, and both would have been free, and she walked out of my store upset because I wouldn't charge her the Buy One Get One Free. Why BOGO, when you can just get them free???????????

We always get customers who want everything for free, but what do you do ...

this is cool

startup plans to create a real-time marketplace for available parking spaces and deliver the information to subscribers over a mobile phone or GPS network.

SpotScout Inc. wants to take the hassle out of finding a place to park a car in crowed cities where finding a space takes patience and luck. So, the company's founder Andrew Rollert, and applications development team, built a Web-based application to broker the transaction.

Coding on the application began last year. When the service launches in beta test mid-September, users will have access through any Web-based mobile device, such as Motorola Q, Research In Motion (RIM) Blackberry and Palm Treo. The signal transmits over mobile data networks.

interesting

Notebook PCs increase student motivation while encouraging technology skills, according to a recent report.

Students are self-directed and get highly personalized instruction with their own computers and Internet access, according to The Center for Research in Education Policy at the University of Memphis, which released results of a report on the subject at the National Educational Computing Conference Thursday.

The report is backed by HP and based on observations of Michigan's Freedom to Learn program in 2004 and 2005. It also reflects surveys of teachers, students, and administrators.

About 23,000 students and 1,500 teachers in 100 Michigan school districts are participating in the program. Students get their own wireless H...

Just a story

I had a customer come into my store a few days ago. His hinge was cracked and he had had the phone for almost 2 months (well out of our return policy). I told him that we couldn't replace the phone (due to how long he had it and the damage) and if he had insurance. He said he did but wasn't going to pay for the phone because he didn't break it. I told him he should go to a direct store to see if they can do a manufacturers waranty replacement, but warned him they probably couldn't because it was broken. He got really angry at me and said that we needed to replace it for free and he wasn't leaving until a manager came and gave him a free phone.

My manager had the day off and wasn't answering their cell phone.

So he threw his cell ...

Me: ๐Ÿ˜ณ Yeah, that means how many you have left.

Cust: Oh ok, and holidays, does that use your night and weekend minutes?

Me: (again) ๐Ÿ‘€ Um, it depends on what day of a week its on, its not any different from a regular day.

Ma'am, does that make sense to you?

I had a kindly middle-aged gentleman and his wife come into my store. It's an vx8100 (so I immediatly think "charging port") but no, it's a cracked display. So I explain to the nice man that his insurence would normally cover that sort of thing, but since he was nice and admitted he dropped it right off the bat and it was a minimal crack with a slow leak (probably brought on by the heat) I was willing to swap it out in the shop for the same deductable. The man was happy with that.

His wife WASN'T and made that fact abundantly clear.

Wife: Why should we have to pay for it, it has a warrentee, doesn't it?

Me: yes ma'am, but the crack in the cystal is considered physical damage and is not covered by the warrentee.

Wife: but he ju...
