Can anyone tell me...

how this customer that i just had can get a signal from his nextel phone while he's working on an offshore oil rig over 100 miles out in the gulf of mexico

are companies now building towers in the ocean or something

what is the approx range of a nextel signal anyways

Very interesting only thing I can think is tat maybe his signal is bouncing off the attmosphere something like how occasionaly radios will work in the actic when there are no towers for miles 😎

It's possible. The rig could have a repeater on it. the closet landbased tower may be aimed toward the rig and then the repeater on the rig could be re-amplifing the signal.

I have a feeling he may be referring to the fact that some Nextel phones can still use the Direct Connect without a regular cell phone signal.
