Charging changes ring profile
May 21, 2009, 8:39 PM
in the Motorola KRZR K1 forum

Hi, I keep my phone on the ring+vib setting all the time. But when I plug my phone in to charge, it changes it to loud only, and keeps it on this setting even after I unplug the phone. I've tried setting the charging profile to have ring+vib, but the next time I charge, the same thing happens again. This has been driving me nuts for a long time, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Ok, sounds good. Given the circumstances requiring this new line, i'm willing to suck up the fee. :/ Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks. Here's the thing, it's going to need international roaming too. So will they be able to put that on the phone? I've had an account with them for over 2 years. Also, I have an extra unactivated at&t sim card. Could they just use that so that I can avoid an activation fee?

Additional number for 1 month?

Hey, I already have an att account with 4 lines. Would it be possible to add another number for $10, just for one month? I already have an old unlocked phone. Thanks

or just move the phone away from the speakers. Depending on the speakers, you could have to keep your phone on the other side of the room. Eventually you just get used to the noise, plus, you'll always hear that noise right before you get a txt or phone call. It's like esp for phones

Yeah, it happens to all GSM phones. You might try moving your phone away from your speakers. Also, it doesn't happen as much if your speakers are sheilded properly (most computer speakers should be!) My phone can be near my computer speakers and not make noises, but if it's near my answering machine, it does. Then I have a pair of old computer speakers, and the phone always interferes with them.

I had my phone unlocked not too long into my contract. You just need to call up international care, tell them you're traveling abroad and that the group you are going with provides you with a sim card. It took about a day or two for them to call me back.

UMTS is just like a new standard for phone technology. It seems to be where AT&T is moving. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS At least with my razr, I didn't notice anything different once I had it unlocked. Though, when I was using a foreign sim, more options would show up under networks; I could select any available GSM network I wanted to connect to.

by the way, I forgot to mention. If verizon and t-mobile work equally well in your house, I would go with t-mobile. At least then it's still GSM. Not to mention, I had hell with verizon and so do a lot of people I know.

Re: Unlocked Phones???

I might actually get an unlocked phone as my next phone. If you get one, i'd get a quad-band just to give you more flexibility. However, at&t is supporting a new technology called UTMS, which you might not find on all unlocked phones. Also, you'll need to probably enter some settings into the phone if you get it elsewhere, but if you call at&t, they should help you out. One of my friends got an unlocked phone, and he was ...

In actuality, I like at&t better than any of the other providers out there. But it ultimately comes down to who actually works where you need it. At my house, it just so happens that at&t is the only provider that works. You have some options though: 1. you can get a repeater. They cost a few hundred $$, but they take the outside signal and amplify it so that you can use your phone at home. You need one that ...

t-mo is on 1900mhz. Higher frequencies do generally yeild better voice quality... However, the lower band in the US (850mhz) is capable of going further distances. at&t has much better coverage, it seems. I've noticed that whenever I've been overseas on an 1800mhz network, the call quality has been a little better. It's pretty amazing calling from overseas and feeling like you're right down the block.

Do any GSM phones work at your house? If so, just get something that works. If not, you have a few options... get an external antenna for the phone. That's going to mean having a wire connected to your phone. I used to use one when I had verizon, and I was at least able to make calls then. get a repeater. They cost a few hundred, but it will help. look for another provider which will work.

It will say whatever it does on your current phone. I know this because my parents have at&t phones, with at&t sims, and I have a cingular phone with a cingular sim. I put my sim in one of the at&t phones and it still said cingular.

Re: TDMA surprise shutdown

Why not just switch over to GSM? Plain TDMA is pretty much a dead technology now. If you don't want contract on new service, then buy your own GSM phone. As long as it's 850/1900mhz, that's fine.

I actually got my unlock code from their international division for free. But you could take the phone to a general cellular retailing store (one that sells t-mobile and other companies too). They might be able to do it for like $20. maybe try this site: http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/nokia-6102-unl ock-p-466.html they charge $10... but I just did a google search and found that site.

Why not check it out with their street-coverage site? http://www.cingular.com/coverageviewer/ it shows best reception for my house, and sure enough, I get full here. Likewise, at my university, it shows full, and I get full there too. It's a pretty good estimator. Though, when I went to the south-west last summer, it told me that there was full reception at one of the hotels I was at, and there was none... But that was the only time it's messed things ...

Re: I HATE talking to people on CDMA! I HATE IT!!!
Apr 30, 2007, 7:16 AM
in the AT&T forum

I don't know. When I had verizon, I could never understand anyone on the other end. It was really annoying. The sound would be garbled and choppy. I haven't had that problem so much with GSM unless the other person has a bad connection or something.

Re: GSM Unlocked Phones Question
Apr 20, 2007, 8:04 AM

your friend should stick with gsm. It's much better... and I can say this as an opinion since I've been on tdma and cdma networks also in the past. Plus, GSM is pretty much the worldwide standard. cingular also uses 1900mhz in certain areas like large cities. I think the range is longer for 850 which is probably why it is used outside of the city. If your friend gets unlocked, he/she can avoid a contract. If he/she really wants ...

are you talking about the buzzing you hear in speakers of other electronics? It almost sounds like a morse-code type thing. I have an answering-machine land-line and whenever my phone is near it, i'll periodically hear those noises. Same with my other speakers. GSM phones are notorious for interfering with speakers... well at least in the united states. I don't know if it happens in places where they use different GSM frequencies.

yeah, like if you've ever taken your phone to another country, it will show the provider that you are using on your screen. There might be a way to over-ride this though and change it to whatever you want.

Everywhere I have been in the US with my phone has displayed cingular. Though, I've checked their coverage maps http://www.cingular.com/coverageviewer/ and some of those areas have been roaming. However, I went into Canada a few weeks ago, and my phone displayed "Rogers Wireless." Also, a friend with cingular has told me that in Europe, the local carrier's name will show on the phone. So I would assume that anywhere outside of the US will display the carrier's name.

there won't be suits. cingular is entitled to do as they please. the contract you signed is pretty air-tight. here's the deal, if you have a problem with the price increase, then don't use the txting feature. if you use it at the new rate, you're entering an implied bi-conditional contract with cingular; you get something, and they get something in return. they are not forcing you to use the txting feature. an unexpected increase in service plan prices, ...

Re: Cingular vs. Verizon?

I'm much happier with cingular. I actually decided to pay off the rest of my verizon and switch to cingular early (it was cheaper than early termination). I've noticed that if you're talking to someone on a landline, or another GSM customer, the voice quality is amazing. On the other hand, when someone with verizon calls me, I have trouble hearing them a lot of the time. Also, I've been impressed with Cingular's coverage. Other members of my ...

RAZR GPRS Icon is gone
Oct 8, 2006, 1:10 PM
in the AT&T forum

Hey, I have a razr v3, and a few weeks ago, the gprs icon would sometimes disappear, but restarting the phone would restore it. However, since yesterday, the icon has been completely gone, and nothing I do makes it come back. What is wrong here? My friend has the same exact phone, and she still has the GPRS icon, so I'm wondering what's going on.

Yeah, it seems to work really well all over the city. I haven't had any issues. Check this site out: http://onlinecare.cingular.com/coverageviewer / it will show you pretty detailed coverage maps. One thing though, as with any phone provider, cingular does not work in the subways.

GPRS icon sometimes disappears
Sep 29, 2006, 12:24 PM
in the AT&T forum

Hey, I've switched over to cingular in early august, and thus far, i'm really impressed with it! Verizon blows chunks in comparison. Here's the problem, i have the razr, and once in a while, the little gprs icon next to the reception bars will disappear. Calls still seem to work during this time, but not data (obviously). Why is this happening? Is it an issue with the phone, or the service in my current area? Thanks

Re: CDMA equipment sales lag while GSM gets boost
Aug 26, 2006, 2:43 PM
in the AT&T forum

Hey, gsm is so much better. Throughout the years I've used TDMA, CDMA and now GSM. I'm sorry I wasn't using gsm years ago, cause cdma is terrible with voice quality. GSM is so close to land-line quality. Even with one bar of reception, gsm is clear. One bar with CDMA (verizon) was terrible.

Re: Clearer Calls :)
Aug 24, 2006, 12:01 PM

yeah, I've noticed that gsm has much better voice quality. I used to have verizon (actually, I still do, cause it's cheaper to run out the contract than pay early termination), and verizon was not clear at all most of the time.

I'm not sure what's going on. Perhaps they are on older versions of aim. Though, mobile IM is difficult since it's hard to type fast. haha

Hey, I just got cingular yesterday, and thus far I'm really impressed. At my house, I used to get 1 bar of reception with verizon, if I was lucky, with cingular I get 4/5 bars, if not full. Anyway, for the first month, they're giving me unlimited data, so I'm playing around with that. I just tried out mobile AIM, and I've noticed that not all of my online buddies show up in the buddy list. How do I fix this? Thanks
