Re: Synchorinization Glitch??

in the BlackBerry Storm 9530 forum

I'm seeing the same issue. I have a contact picture for a few people, and the BB will often change the title of the contact photo and cause a circular update to the contact. I'm also noticing some other updates are repetitive, especially for contacts who have special characters like "&". Every time I sync, the BB causes an update to these, even though they haven't been modified. Not sure what the fix is.

Thanks HawkeyeOC - Can you be more specific with regard to the exact issues that .85 fixes? Most important to me are: - Still rebooting by itself after .75 update - Poor outbound voice quality on handset (resolved when using wired ear-piece) - Auto-on / Auto-off causes phone to come back-up with "Radio-Off" (even when battery life is nearly 50%). Must manually turn radio back on - Relatively poor battery life and slow speed - Once browser ...

Is anybody else having these issues??
Jan 5, 2009, 6:39 PM
in the BlackBerry Storm 9530 forum

When I first got the phone, it was awful - rebooting all the time and very slow. I've since updated to the latest Verizon release (4.7.0.75) and I am stilling finding: - The phone reboots all by itself. It seems to like to do it right when I'm in the middle of something (e-mail, phone call, etc.) or sometimes when it's just sitting there. I can only imagine how many times it's rebooting while I'm not looking. - ...

Sync Options / e-mail options
Nov 21, 2008, 2:25 PM
in the BlackBerry Storm 9530 forum

I have a blackberry for work, but have not had a personal one with VZW yet and am wondering about the e-mail / sync options. Naturally, if you're on a BES (Blackeberry Enterprise Server) than you have OTA (Over The Air) syncing for all e-mail, contacts, calendar, etc. However, if you're not on a corporate BES and plan on using BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) - what are your options? Do you set-up your e-mail account with a Blackberry ...

I'm debating getting an iPhone 3G or waiting for the Bold. I noticed you said you hate the iPhone and can't wait for the Bold. Can you please expound upon that a bit. What do you hate about the iPhone, and how do you anticipate Bold will be better? Also - isn't RIM also coming out with a touchscreen like the iPhone. How will that compare as well? Thx

Actually I do need this web-client. Many business networks block access to external mail accounts (gmail, yahoo, and basically any other provider or site with the word "mail" in it) The verizon web-client is one of the few not blocked and it saves me from having to use my thumbs all day while sitting in front of a full PC keyboard. If anybody knows the answer to this - I'd greatly appreciate it. If another verizon web-client is used ...

See my original post on this. https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_ forum.php?fm=m&ff=856&fi=664556 Toward the end of the trail - a great link is identified: http://benhirashima.com/hosted Files/ It contains multiple versions of a CAB file that is easily installed and replaces the useless Verizon logo with an image of a alphanumeric keypad while dialing and on calls. The multiple versions differ by their use of varied images. I've had this for a while and it works like a charm.

AntiVirus for Q???
Aug 30, 2006, 4:23 PM

I recently saw an anti-virus company advertising a software suite for smartphones. I'm wondering - are viruses a real concern for the Q? I've installed a ton of 3rd party apps - and I believe that most are reputable - but would it actually be possible for any to infect my Q? if infected - what could they do? is this a real concern?

Shockingly, the Q does not have "cut/copy/paste" functionality. There is a 3rd party app that enables this: http://www.smartphone.net/software_d etail.asp?id=2133 I haven't tried it yet.... I desperately need the functionality - but have just been too busy over the last few weeks to try any new apps. Give it a shot and let us know what you think of it.

Searching for specific text???
Jul 25, 2006, 4:47 PM

Is there any way to "search" on the Q for specific text within calendar entries or contacts? For instance, on my old Palm PDA, I could do a search for "Chicago" and find every calendar entry related to trips to Chicago, as well as every contact with "Chicago" listed as the city. I've not found a way to do any type of "search" on the Q. Is there any 3rd party app that will do it? How about the ...

Re: Pause or wait dialing
Jul 25, 2006, 4:40 PM

Mine is set to "short" and works fine with both Verizon voicemail, as well as my work voicemail. I'm guessing this must be a dependency of the voicemail system you are trying to access. Glad you found the solution though!

Re: Pause, Wait dialing for Voicemail

in the Motorola Q forum

That's one option. However, an often easier option is to use the Pause feature. You can use multiple "p in the number, so if you find that the password / mailbox is getting entered too soon, just add another "p" to the number. I find this works better because I never have to hit subsequent keys to access voicemail.

Re: motorola Q - Security

Yes. Start->Settings->More->Security-> Enable Phone Lock. You put in a time-out value, and the phone automatically locks after that time has elapsed. A password is required to access the phone.

Q uses mini-SD - not MicroSD/Transflash. Do some research on the Treo vs. Q.... the question has been asked and answered in this forum multiple times as well as all over the web. Just look through old threads. I posted many myself, including the Wall St. Journal side-by-side comparison from a month or two ago.

Re: Has anyone used the auto key lock?
Jul 25, 2006, 2:02 PM
in the Motorola Q forum

Start-> Settings-> More -> Security -> Enable Phone Lock. Should be self explanatory from there. FYI - this isn't just a "keylock" - it's a full phone lock, which requires a password to unlock. If you want only a "key lock" - you have to do it manually (Home->Spacebar), or buy a 3rd party app to do it automatically. I recently saw one listed under an earlier post.

Re: Will this work for me?

If you're hooked up to Microsoft Exchange Server - your appointments will automatically sync with your Outlook Calendar. Microsoft Outlook has the ability to give "Administrative" access to multiple people (ie: your assistant(s)) - as long as you're using a networked environment. If you are just using "Active Sync" - you can't do this - as far as I know.

Re: Master Reset Question

Master Reset sets the phone back to exactly the way you got it when you first picked it up from Verizon. All Contacts gone, all calendar gone, all history of phone calls gone, all settings refreshed. Literally anything and everything you did to the phone since the day you got it is reset. I don't believe deleted contacts or text messages get stored anywhere - unless they are still on your sync client (either on your PC with Active sync, ...

Re: Email????
Jul 25, 2006, 1:43 PM

You have 3 e-mail options: 1. Use PC Monitoring with an "always on" PC. This will push your e-mail immediately to your Q - but you have to leave an Outlook client running all the time. 2. Use "Wireless Sync" on your Q. This will immediately push messages to your Q - but only when the Verizon wireless sync client receives them. The Verizon Wireless Sync server only polls POP3 every 15 minutes - but it may ...

Either the scroll-wheel (along the side of the device) or the directional keypad (smack in the middle) will allow you to move up and down, but I don't believe either will do it "a page at a time" for you.

Re: Wireless Synch through Verizon
Jul 13, 2006, 9:52 AM
in the Motorola Q forum

You guys are actually BOTH correct. Using wireless sync, the Verizon server sends e-mail from Verizon's wireless sync server to the Q without delay. HOWEVER... the Verizon wireless sync server only polls your POP3 account every 15 minutes for new messages. So, in essence, there actually is a 15 minute delay to receive new messages. If you want to receive your messages sooner - you can configure the MOTOROLA POP3 client (Start->messaging->outlook->Settings->New Account....etc.) This will enable you to use "Menu-> Send/Receive" ...

Re: Motorola Q Time Zone Changing?
Jul 12, 2006, 10:27 AM
in the Motorola Q forum

I noticed the same thing. Here is my understanding of the situation: Unlike other phones - this phone will not automatically adjust to the local time-zone. I highly doubt that the phone "can't" do this - but rather that they intentionally chose not to enable this feature. The key difference with this phone is that is has a full calendar functionality. Switching to a new time-zone could cause problems. Example: You live in NYC and have a meeting every morning at 8am. ...

You can definitely get your mail on here - it interfaces with Exchange for corporate e-mail, but also can pull mail in from any POP3 client (yahoo, hotmail, godaddy, g-mail, etc.) You can also do AIM messenger - but not directly. You have to install an app called "Agile Messenger" which acts as a front-end for Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, and other popular IM's The question about the Q vs the treo is not easily answered - it's a personal preference. Re: Spam Filter for Q
Jul 11, 2006, 3:46 PM

I've never seen a spam filter for a mobile device. I think most people assume your going to use it with a POP3 account that already has a spam-filter on the ISP's server.
