This customer will NOT upgrade until out of contract. Not at 16-18 months on his primary, nor 20 months on his secondaries.
"Oh no, I should just wait until my contract is up..."
This is usually the same customer that believes that nothing can change about his/her plan until the contract is up AND that any action on their account is going to change their old plan to a newer, more expensive plan.
The Online Buyer
The customer who walks in and announces that he's buying everything online, and just wants to test drive. Sorry buddy, I'm a retailer, and my time has to be spent on profiting my store or helping people with real issues.
The customer who I spend an hour every week with, solving their problems and building rapport. They finally decide to do an upgrade and they buy online to save $10.

Had a customer download (onto his iPhone) the entire first season of some hi-res TV show on day one of having the device. This is after me spending fifteen minutes trying to convince him to take the $25 plan. He said, and I quote:
"I didn't download them, they came on the phone!"

*I can't call the local sheriff to say I'm hurt or someone else was just in an accident.
*My passengers are stuck listening to radio because they can't use Pandora.
*I'm stuck with $200 worth of bluetooth equipment I bought so I could call/text LEGALLY.
*My passengers can't text/call their friends and family.
*AT&T Navigator and Google Navigation are now useless while driving, you know, when I need them.
Slight correction
I realize you do actually post the type (LCD, AMOLED, etc)
Screen Info in Specs
Capacitive/Resistive? AMOLED/LCD?
Is this something that could be implemented in the "Display" portion of phone specs? As more phones start moving toward capacitive screens, it's nice to know if a new phone is resistive.
Re: water damage
Ah. Was going to say, if you're AT&T, There is a way for indirect sales channels to leave account notes!

You'll probably have to go through insurance and pay the deductible, unless you want to spend the time in store and hope they either A) dont see it B) dont open it and just swap you out or C) take pity on you and give you a break.
Please don't do this. At least with an indirect dealer.

I have had a few people that it happened to, and still got a warranty replacement phone for free because the stickers didn't show it.
Be careful. Some phones have internal LDIs! If they find fault with the phone that you caused, they'll make you pay for the warranty replacement.
Re: "Don't like the return policy? Don't buy something from us..."
How about:
"We're sorry, but it's there to protect retailers like us from the various costs incurred in a return. While I can't waive that restocking fee, I CAN spend some extra time making sure whatever replacement we find works better for you."
Your policy just breeds a dead end, where people can either be dissatisfied or spend the day finding a new carrier. The most valuable thing I've learned in sales is to give people a positive route to take.

Custy: Can this phone go on the internet?
Me: Yes, in fact every phone in this store is web-enabled. Is that something that's important to you?
At this point the customer starts to leave stating that he doesn't want a phone that uses the internet. I calmly explain that it merely has the ability to use it, for people that need it. There is no forced usage, nor is it in your face or easily accessible.
Custy gets angry and says he doesn't need it, and says that half ...
Re: Got to just love lawyers
Had a lawyer come in and explain to me his client's (the plaintiff) predicament... sob sob sob story. Then after apparently gaining enough rapport with me tried to get access to the defendant's cell phone records.
Sorry Charlie, not happening. Isn't your job to PROTECT people's rights?!
Do you work in my store when I'm not here?!
You forgot:

CAT5 cables
Screen protectors cut to fit my old Cingular phone
Manuals for cellphones
Power supplies for third party modems/routers
A recent one:
"No I don't carry that outdated, smelly/sticky bluetooth you're holding out to me like I'm going to touch it. We carry relevant models that aren't the size of a second cell phone on your ear."
and my favorite:
"No, we don't sell the little white stickers that go in the phone and on the battery."
Re:"Competition" vs. "Healthy Competition"
What would bolster "healthy competition" in the cellular industry? I feel like at least what this article states is that the rural carriers want something for nothing other than being a small company who needs more towers. Not a healthy solution for sure?
I'm Confused
Aren't these smaller rural companies complaining because they're redundant and want a piece of a larger, more relevant company's pie... or is there some precedence for this?
Re: The alternatives?
Or a WiFI toggle!
It's funny how the more digital settings become, the more people want an analog alternative.

We should have a competition to see who can pay off their credit card first.

For those with firewalls, an excerpt:
"[Best Buy] briefly published a link on its mobile site this morning, offering a teaser for the Samsung Nexus S, advertised as "pure Google" and available on T-Mobile's network.
The link and image have since been taken down.
The promo text accompanying the removed read, "Pure Google -- The Nexus S. Available only at Best Buy this holiday season.""

Re: Unlocking
Heyhey, we're thinking the same thing. Before you go forward, double-check that the UMTS in your area is on the 850 frequency!
As to your question, I was going to have a friend on T-Mobile claim they were going overseas and see if TMo would unlock it for him. If it works, I will give you the thumbs up!

WCDMA900*
Re: TMO to ATT
All great tips, thank you!
1) All but one area in my town are 850, at least on the UMTS side. My parent's home town is also fully covered by both spectrums!
2) I took your suggestion and looked at European and Canadian models. So far the only ones I can find use the UMTS900 spectrum. If I find one that works, the back plate is black rather than white, which should make scratches less visible.
3) My current AT&T Android phone ...
TMO to ATT
I'm hoping to get the new Motorola Defy from T-Mobile, and (given it has WCDMA850) use it in conjunction with my AT&T account for my bouldering/kayaking excursions. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should work on AT&T's data network? I know the places I frequent utilize the lower frequency spectrum, so theorhetically I would have data access. Am I right in assuming that all I need to do is below?
1) Get phone at retail online or at T-Mo
2) ...

Mistake or Malevolence?
So I had a customer/friend come in who I needed to call into Customer Care for. We backdated a rateplan change and removed a feature. Pretty routine stuff.
Two days later, his phone was deactivated. He called in and 611 told him that his line had been cancelled by his request. They fixed his line and waived all the fees that had piled up from cancelling/reactivating service. So that's cool.
When he came in yesterday to tell me what happened, I ...
